If you aren't doing a function specifically multimedia oriented (mp3
encoding, etc, etc) the 600mhz G3 will beat the 400mhz G4 by quite a bit.
Windows in Osx, etc will be a bit snappier on the G4, but not like you'd
think. General stuff will still be faster on the G3.

Airport performance is also drastically better on the ibook, and so is the
build quality of the computer itself. A lot of the "quality issues" were
fixed with the rev.B models (550 & 667) but the originals still suffer from
them. Battery life is a lot better, and it doesn't suffer from the heat
issues of the titanium. The ibook also has a combo drive, which can be handy
as hell.

If the PCMCIA port is an issue, ie for camera cards you can buy a cheap
firewire or USB adapter for them.

Since you already own a cube, and this is just a secondary computer... If it
were me I'd get the ibook. They are just more reliable, and feature rich.

Re: iBook 600mhz vs TiBook 400mhz

2002-04-17 Thread James

There is no comparasion
The G4 is a 100% better in OS X if you plan to use OS
X now and in the future the Powerbook version G4 is
better. The 400mhz actually out performs the 600 mhz
G3 hands down. tis 64 bit vs 128 bit
If you only goin to upgrade the laptop in a year or
less go with the cheaper on and if you plan to use
mostly OS 9.2.2 and rarly use OS X them maybee the
ibook is your choice but power to power the G4 is
better
Apple only makes Two G3 models now and they are the
lowest end Macs the classic iMac and the ibook. I use
a G3 powerbook 2000 edition and yes OS X runs on it
but it is a little sluggish compared to my G4 tower
and compaired to the G4 powerbooks i used in the
stores
So think about what your needs are
if you goin to rely on OS X go with the G4 if not it
us up to you what u wanna spend on the money
remember the G4 speed vers the G3 speed there is a
difference when it comes to raw power.

Re: iBook 600mhz vs TiBook 400mhz

2002-04-17 Thread richie

My main reason for getting a TiBook over the 12" iBook was the screen size.
The other features you mention depends on need. I just knew that if I got
the iBook the next week would have needed a PC Card slot or infrared. Now if
they only had the 14" iBook...
