SV: European Powerbooks _ the last word

2005-04-18 Thread Aase Marit Waage
Hi Ben,

All my PB's has had the schuko grounded plug (plug with two round pins
and grounding on the sides). A lot of other things (like laptops) does
not have the grounding though, but all Power Book cables has had it. I
don't know how my new iBook's plug is though. It came with the white
square power supply that looks just like my Airport Express Base, but
the guy I bought it from had lost the plug. He preferred a longer cord,
so he used a standard power cord. Neat how they now use a standard power
cord with the small standard plug so you can just buy any power cord at
places like the Radio Shack... Do you know if you can buy the plug for
the white adapter, without buying a whole new adapter?

My iBook is still in the hospital, poor thing. Checked status on it
today though, and it said they planned to finish it tomorrow. Then
they'll probably use a few days to get it here. I can't wait to get it
back, I really hate using this PC. Only one good thing about it, I have
got a bit more used to the awful little rubber pointing device it has...

Aase :)

2-phase power doesn't exist either, it would make no sense. 3-phase
power cables have 5 wires anyway. Ground, neutral and phase 1,2,3...

Come on guys!

It's jargon: one ground and the phases...

BTW. Most powerbooks sold in the EU have the German schuko plug
with the ground...

I'm guessing but I suspect the US cord that comes with the white PB
power adapter is grounded for code reasons. Just why the wall wart
adapter isn't ground, I don't know. But I suspect the reason for a
standard power connector inside is so you can use a two wire cable
with it, even if perhaps Apple can't sell it that way.

Sorry... I meant to say Neat how they now use a power supply that uses
the small standard plug, so you can just buy any power cord at places
like the Radio Shack to use with it... I did not mean to say that they
now use standard non-grounded power cables, because I really do not know
how the plug is now, because now it doesn't have a cord, just the plug,
so if you don't want to, you don't have to have all that cord... I love
that, it is so much neater (as long as you are close to a wall outlet,
if you aren't, you can just replace the plug or what you call it, with a
cheap cord). Small details, but neat nonetheless! :)

I have the flying saucer power adapter with my WS and it has only two
prongs and they are the same size, so that denies your theory

A flying saucer power supply is not a white PB power adapter as I
was talking about.
