Re: Slightly OT 802.11 question
Hi what book is it going into? because you can strip down the orinoco cards. my i book has an orinoco card with the black end cap removed. I removed the ibook airport card retaining clip and put a piece of electrical tape on the under side of the keyboard where the card touches, also on the metal base under the keyboard. placed the card in and it sits on the shelf part of the book nicely, connected up the antenna the put back the keyboard. you get a very slight rise in the center of the keyboard, but it does not touch the screen when closed and you need to keep the center locking catch for the keyboard locked to hold it in. It has worked fine since i done it in November last year no problems and i never turn the ibook off (just to sleep). and i use the airport software under X to run it. vicki. -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Slightly OT 802.11 question
But, you can find themI recently saw them for sale on a site related to lowendmac.one of their 'Links' for $99. A couple of months ago, I needed one for a dual 1 gig G4 and ended up paying $150 (that hurt me to the core). Anyway, do a google search and you can find them. They're also available on ebay. Slightly OT 802.11 question
What's available to add 802.11 to a OS9 unit that lacks any slots for either internal or external-type cards? {hint: color of H2O on a certain beach...} I.e. - USB or Ethernet connections I see some Belkin gadget, for $50 or so: F5D6050 - but is that the best bet? -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... In my experience the USB 802.11 adapters have all been pretty poor performers. The only thing they have going for them is they don't need a power supply. However, if you're talking about a bondi iBook, they take internal Airport cards. You just have to get the pricier, out-of-production original Aiport cards, about $60-$80. -- Bruce Johnson -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
