2004-11-18 Thread PETE
Does any lister know what's the cheapest price for a
USB card for a wallstreet? I need to add USB

I bought one from NewEgg. I'll get the PN/$$ later.
It's OK, but it's a PITA with most wireless cards; both need the top
slot. (They bulge...)

That's why I got a Skyline wireless card, it's antenna is flat and

The Macally (1.1) USB card is flat and has a 2-port dongle. It fits
under any of my other PC cards. Although it's not being manufactured
any longer, you ought to be able to come across a used one for $30 or
so.

I'd try the LEM swap list first, unless you are already an ebay user.

Good Luck,

Bob

I hate dongles. They get lost, come lose, break, etc.
That figured strongly in my card choice

USB PCMCIA card

2003-01-16 Thread Marty Lindower
Hi all-

My trusty Epson 740 died yesterday, and having a Wallstreet
PB, my printer options are somewhat limited. I went to CompUSA and
bought a USB 2.0 Cardbus 2 port adapter (and an Epson C62). Haven't
unpacked it all yet, but I was wondering if:

- does anyone have any experience wit this? I don't care about the
USB 2.0, but just need a USB printer port

- do I need any drivers, etc under OS 9.2.2? They said there's a
floppy with drivers in the box (oh joy!); or in typical Mac fashion,
should this just work?

- any comments on the printer?

TIA,

Marty Lindower

I generally print (from my Wallstreet) with an Epson 600 attached to
my serial port, but have on vacation used USB printers.

You should be able to download the drivers from Epson.

(Are you sure it's a floppy that's included? I haven't seen such a
thing for a LONG time!!)

I must admit, when I tried to use my sister-in-law's USB Epson (after
loading its drivers), I had no luck. It still tried to send the
output through the serial port, and found no printer there. Maybe
that's because I hadn't deleted my Stylus 600 driver?? Anyone
successfully using an Epson USB printer on a Wallstreet?

I used my mother-in-law's Canon and it worked just fine with the
drivers that came on the CD with it.

Anne

The drivers I was referring to were for the PC card, not the
printer... and yes, it is a relic 3.5 (not so) floppy that says
Windows and Mac OS X drivers, as if any current OS X-running Mac
would have a floppy drive ;-?

I havent tried on my wallstreet (not a daily use machine) but I was
able to hook up a Lexmark Z45 through a USB pc card on my TiBook and it
worked like a charm (card req'd no drivers and the printer drivers had
already been downloaded and installed)

If not, try apple's drivers - available on the system disk, or
downloadable separately from the Apple site (USB Adapter Card Support

Thanks! That did it!

USB PCMCIA CARD

2002-11-28 Thread jcallahan
My Wallstreet w/ OS X works fine with my Macally USB card. The only
trouble I had is with my USB CD-R burner. I was burning a video tape
and the computer froze and somhow distroyed all my extensions, so that I
had to do a clean install of the OS. It took me a considerable length of
time to figure out what had happened, like maybe six hours. Wonder if
anyone else has had similar problem.

Looking for USB PCMCIA Card for Wallstreet PowerBook

2002-03-18 Thread Donna Hood Pointer

I don't know about the Visor cradle, but my Palm cradle actually goes to
serial (for pc's) first. I then connect it to either my older non-USB Macs
with a PC-serial to Mac serial short adapter cord (this would be a
modem/printer port on the older powerbooks), or I use a PC-serial to USB
short adapter cord to plug in to my iMac USB. Either of these little cables
is available as a Palm part. They are inexpensive. If your cradle can do
PC-serial, then this is a route for you. If it can only do USB then this
won't work.

Re: Looking for USB PCMCIA Card for Wallstreet PowerBook

2002-03-18 Thread Lizard1

Thanks for the tips, Donna, but I have an Epson printer already attached to
the serial port on the PB, and adding a USB card will let me use the USB
cradle that came with the Visor at the same time, as opposed to futzing
around with a serial switchbox, which I've played with be before, and none of
them ever worked flawlessly. Even though this will be more expensive, in the
long run it will be a more trouble-free solution, plus I'll have a 2nd USB
port available for other types of newer peripherals in the furture.

Thanks,
Mike
