Upgrade install is the problem. I've had some similar issues on my Powerbook with Tiger as well. I did an Archive and Install and not an upgrade. Well, clean install is always a solution. Upgrades are always trouble, always were, always will be. Doesn't matter if you are going from Windows 98 to Windows XP or from Panther to Tiger, taking a new OS and writing its files directly on top of an older OS is just asking for trouble. Yeah, most things will work, but it will always be a mess under the hood. Sorry, that's just the way it is. Every upgrade install is different, depending on what is on the computer before you upgrade. That is one reason why upgrades are so unpredictable and trouble-prone. Are you saying that there is no solution other than an Archive Install? Regardless of what caused the problem, it makes no sense to me that deleting the application and Preferences, followed by a reinstall would do the trick.
