art teacher mac tools

2005-09-21 Thread Kristina

Dear Liste friends,

I will be taking a part-time position as an art teacher at a local
private school, after Christmas.

I have found an art ed yahoo group and I need mac advice and
translations...like tech words that we rightbrainers don't have...

One teacher, a macuser too, explains how she uses her pb, powerpoint
for notes and the internet as visual support, especially when
discussing art history, works and artists.

Kristina,

Well, I'm going to give this a shot. Tech part isn't my thing
either. I have a cable that I was told about from the nice man at
apple (phone call). He told me which one to buy and I can't for the
life of me find out where my order form is. I do know that it has a
round port which attaches to the laptop as the OUT and then the
other end goes into the TV on the video port. As for the technical
name, call apple and explain this to them. That is how I got my
information. It is truly a wonderful thing to have. All my teachers
are jealous because I use it all the time. I even prepare my
lessons on power point or just word and then can bring them up on to
the screen. It helps with them taking notes etc. I also was very
fortunate to have a big TV with a big screen. This helps too. Let
me know what you find out. I'm anxious to know what the name of the
cable is called. If I get anymore info I'll pass it along. Keep in
touch.

Kristina,

Yes! I use a laptop and my TV in my classroom to show tons of different
things to my students. Usually, that is the way I begin my lessons. I
use websites of all different kinds such as Artcyclopedia, Incredible
Art Department, museum sites etc. I have a powerbook G4 and I have a
cable that attaches to my laptop and then feeds into the video part of
my TV. I tell my computer to Detect Displays and then adjust my TV
to an auxiliary setting. I hope this is sort of clear. Sounds
complicated but it really isn't once you have all the necessary
components. I highly recommend the laptop and monitor capabilities.
It is extremely beneficial to the students and to my lessons.

2005-09-21 Thread Art Richard
The TV output on a Mac PowerBook is a round multi-pin connector for
S-video. If your TV has an S-video input, you can get an S-video to
S-video cable and you are in business. If your TV only has separate
video and sound input connectors, you need a cable with a converter.

should Radio shack carry this or buy it on line?

Most Mac S-Video outputs (if there is no RCA composite output) can
also produce composite video out and only need an adapter cable.
These were included with the Mac.

IIRC, the S-Video cable has the same pin connector as the Apple ADB
cable. You could try one of those if the school has any old macs or
