There are no problems burning it to a CD you can play on your car
stereo. Create a playlist, click burn. Same as you would with AIFFs,
MP3s, unprotected AACs, OGGs, and any other format you can play through
iTunes.

I don't want this thread to degenerate into whether copyrights are fair or
not, but I think Apple is fairly flexible in the way they manage the songs
you buy from the store. Essentially, Apple is just trying to prevent users
from making copies of the songs they buy to their friend. If they didn't
have those policies, they would have never had the collaboration of the
major distribution companies.

But, like I said, without using any illegal or unethical program, you can
still burn CDs and there is nothing that prevent you from importing songs
from CDs...

creationism n.: The (false) belief that large, innovative software designs
can be completely specified in advance and then painlessly magicked out of
the void by the normal efforts of a team of normally talented programmers.
In fact, experience has shown repeatedly that good designs arise only from
evolutionary, exploratory interaction between one (or at most a small
handful of) exceptionally able designer(s) and an active user population --
and that the first try at a big new idea is always wrong. Unfortunately,
because these truths don't fit the planning models beloved of management,
they are generally ignored.

iTunes store downloads

2004-10-31 Thread Kathryn Odell
I made my first download at the Apple music store recently. Then I went
to put the music on a CD, and found I could not convert the music files
to AIFF. Here's the message I got:

All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted except
songs you purchased from the Music Store. (Purchased songs are encoded
using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted.)

Don't I need the AIFF format to play on my car CD player? If I am
unable to use the music that I download in this way, I think that was
my firstand last---download from the Apple store.

Thanks for any advice,
Kate

Just create a playlist in iTunes, insert a blank CD, and click the burn
button to the right of the track name display. You can't convert
protected AAC files to AIFF in iTunes, but you can still burn them.
