Re: installing os9 over firewire.
Have you tried Carbon Copy Cloner? It's at http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html Using this program, I have successfully cloned an entire drive, including but not limited to OS 9.2.2 and OS X 10.3.7 to an iBook using Firewire Target Disk Mode. The result was a perfectly working iBook that can even boot under OS 9. Try this as your last option at least before you throw in the towel. Hope this helps. . . installing os9 over firewire.
I would like to install os9 over firewire because the ibook's CD ROM player is dead. I have an ibook 500 (which I am returning) but I would like to give it another chance as the price was so dandy! I went out and bought a firewire cable and successfully mounted the ibook on the emac's desktop; however, after installing os 9, an original cd that came with the first version of OS, resulted in an ibook that won't start.
