Consider Epson too, for the same reason.

Not in any Epson I've ever used, including the brand new R300 I just
bought. Maybe some of their new models do, but none that I have used in
the last 8 years have the print head on the cartridge.

I just purchases the Canon i6000 bought 149. from best buy; it has
individual ink cartridges. I purchases this for my photo printing...tho the
color is sometimes very heavy, dark and red. I admit I am not really savvy
and could use the poor man's quick start for excellent photos.

You might consider an HP. Their print cartridge combines the ink
reservoir with the ink jet print head. While it won't prevent the
head from clogging, cleaning it, no matter how clogged is as simple

You're not going to like this; none of the options are very appealing.
1) Print something every day or so, anyway. If you do this, most
inkjets last a longer time with fewer problems. You burn lot of ink and
paper this way, unfortunately.

1a) Get an inkjet with the print heads built into the cartridges. You
burn a lot of ink, but at least the rest of the printer continues
working. You can extend this by taking out the print carts after use
and storing them in humidified airtight containers. This is a hassle,
though. Most printers make you go through re-calibration every time you
put in a cartridge.

2) Get a color laser printer. Muchos bucks...the cheapest is several
hundred dollars, and toner costs aren't cheap, but on a per-page cost
they're cheaper in the long run than inkjets. They also don't print on
as many different kinds of stock as inkjets do. like glossy and t-shirt
transfers. They're also not as high-resolution as inkjets.

This is why I've given up...my home printer is an old HP laserjet 4, it
sits there off most of the time, but about 20 seconds after starting up
it'll print a good page every time. B&W only, of course...

3) Invent a stasis field printer cover. If you do, I'll be at the head
of the line for one...

I print about once a fortnight & have a Canon i470D, although its
attached to my PC not my iBook. I assume it has mac drivers. Anyhow,
I've had no problems with it & its a good printer for not that much money.
