ADC Video upgrade for dual G5

2009-05-05 Thread Eric Volker

I have a dual 1.8GHz G5 with an AGP 8x NVidia 5200 connected to an 22
Apple Cinema Display, with the infamous ADC connector. Given the lack
of graphics power in the 5200, I'd like to upgrade. As far as I can
tell my upgrade options would be a factory original Radeon 9600. There
were aftermarket 9800 and X800 boards available, but I'm not sure that
they had ADC connectors. I've also seen Radeon 9000's available at
somewhat reasonable prices, but research seems to indicate that they
only work in G4's. Can anyone clarify this situation and provide me
with some advice on reasonably priced upgrades (say ~$60). Thanks!

Eric

Check and replace, as necessary, the 3.6 volt 1/2AA PRAM battery.

A brand-new battery will read approximately 3.68 volts.

It stays at the 3.6 volt level, at least, for about 99.44 percent of
its lifetime, then it slowly tends towards 3.2 volts.

It is considered dead at 3.0 volts, although most models will
continue to operate properly until somewhat below 3.0 volts.

The curve is so steep at 3.0 volts that you might as well toss the
battery.

These batteries are so ubiquitous that Mac recyclers generally pull
them, test them and sell them, usually for a buck a battery for such
a pull.

There is a company that used to sell touch screen add-ons for iMacs,
so they could be used for kiosks and suchlike. A moment's googling
iMac touch screen got me to Troll Touch.

They do iMacs and Macbooks.

There's also the ModBook tablet by Axiotron

ATI 9800 TV Problem

2009-05-05 Thread starrf...@valley.net

I'm running an ATI 9800 Pro Mac Version in a Quicksilver. Usually I
have two LCD monitors on it, but once I used the TV output for a
special job. Since then the board thinks there's a TV attached to it
and always creates a TV screen which I can see in the Monitors
Preferences Arrangement pane. It uses resources an sometimes things
get lost in that part of the screen so I want to get rid of it but I
can't see how. I have the latest ATI software and have read the docs
with care. No luck.

There is a checkbox in the ATI prefs that tells the board to always
see a TV whether or not it detects one, but it is not checked.

Ideas?

Thanks for this useful response, Dan.
While I waiting for response, I installed Eudora on the Pismo and was
turned off with having to pay for some parts of it.

Since Qualcomm has retired it, Eudora is now free. Just
select sponsored mode. No ads will appear and it
will be fully functional.
