Question re hard drive jumper settings for cable select on quicksilver single processor 867 MHz
Dear List, hi. sorry but I’ve really found this difficult to find info on the net. My quicksilver has what looks like cable select cables for both the hard drive bus and the dvd-r / zip bus, (blue connector for m/ board, grey for slave, black for primary drive) so when using a new hard drive should I 1. set the jumper settings (Seagate hard drives) to master ie ( |: : : : ) and slave ( : : : : ) Or, 2. set the jumpers to ‘cable select’ ( : |: : : ) on both? Sorry but a lot of conflicting info around. Either will work, but be consistent. Apple implemented the HP/Compaq patent for cable select, but only part of it ... the part which is executed at power-on. After power- on, it is behaving as Master/Slave, but as we all know, Master and Slave are not that at all ... they are peers. I always set my drives to Master (for the last and first drive) and Slave (for the next-to-last and second drive, if present). The optical drive is also on a cable select cable, but it is set by Apple to Master. Whenever I install an additional HD in the Zip carrier, it is set to Slave. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Can't purchase from ITunes (error 1008) fix
Back in November 09 I posted that I couldn't purchase from iTunes receiving an error message 1008. I'd upgraded to 9.1 and the only fix that worked was to revert to v 8+ recently I succumbed to the relentless update notices and upgraded to 9.2.1 Everything worked fine until I traveled with the external HD from which I boot and on the road booted from my wife's iBook. When returning to my MiniG4 the previous error reoccured. Found the fix on the Apple iTunes forum. Media is the new heavy industry and we are supposed to just feed ads and persuasion to each other to keep the economy going. The days of the free ride on the net are over.I have been to media school and have been indoctrinated to see the light. Find more info at the Poynter Institute site. You don't believe in this? Well build your own factory then and fight the weight of the corporate age. I am sad to have to see an ad to check out a cool vid on youtube. or anywhere else. And sadder to see our Facebook profiles shaping our ads we see on other sites. That's how I end up looking at ads for our state election and dating for seniors while just trying to hear some rock or look at a sports vid. The ads follow us around. And already ads can follow you into stores if your cell phone is a certain config. Just like in the sci fi flicks of 2 decades ago. Versiontracker has long been associated with Cnet.. And them monetizing their pages to the max had to come sooner or later. Newspapers and magazines are still struggling to make the transition and make it pay and they have more competition than ever being on the web. If this is the first you have noticed a dislike for the increased commercial push you are lucky.
