tiff files are not "microsoft" files. You can use the OS X command
line to achieve this.

Yes you should be able to do what you want; but it will take some unix
chops. The find command is your friend.

So the concept is 'find all the files like *.0001- *.0300 on the CD'
and send them to the lp command specifying the high-speed printer.'

the find command should be able to do this. Hopefully someone with
better unix command-line skills can manage this.

Asking on a linux forum may get you some help, if you can't find it
here.

Need to Print Thousands of Micro$oft doc scans, Ahhh

2011-05-26 Thread glen
Here's the deal. I have been given a CD with more than 3,000 pages scanned in
the .tiff format, I assume they were scanned with a high speed commercial
digital copier/scanner in a Windows office environment.

For security reasons, the scan folder is named xxx_0001. There is also another
nondescript file named xxx_0001.OPT.

A seach reveals OPT is: "OPT file is a Microsoft Visual Studio Workspace
Options. This is a binary file that is the workspace options file for the local
computer".

When I open the scan folder I see 3000 subfolders with names xxx.0001 to
xxx.3000. If I open each subfolder I see a one page tiff scan with consecutive
legal Bates Numbers xxx.0001 thu xxx.3000.

I did open and try dropping the first 15 pages of .tiff files into my desktop
printer icon and it prints about 2 pages/minute. That translates to 30 hours
non-stop time without breaks or interruptions.

These are legal docs I received from a respected local law firm I that I do
business with and my job is to print them. I do not think think the firm is
willing to pay for 30 hours of work and I would not feel justified in that
charge.

Sooo, the QUESTION: is there any Mac software that will sniff out the .tiff
docs and send them to my high speed commercial digital copier and allow me to
print the 3000 pages without having to open each tiff file separately to to
print it. Or is this just another Mico$oft "I got'cha".

This print shop is totally Mac with no Windows PC's.

I am using a DA 733 with OS 10.4.11 for this job, any suggestions? --glen

Sorry for the late response - been busy.

I will check the console log, if I can open it without crashing.

I'll put another hard drive in it, load OS9, and update the firmware.

Thanks for the input so far! Will report back when I try the suggestions.

Yes, those are almost certainly flashed PC cards.

The G5 AGP Pro slot is backwards compatible with earlier AGP standards.

See the Toms Hardware link I posted earlier in this thread. The AGP/AGP Pro
stuff is not just Mac.

Re: radeon 9800 pro

2011-05-26 Thread Baldassare Guzzo
Last question. I just browsed ebay and there are eight "9800 Pro"
cards available in 128mb and 256mb- and ALL say they are for the G4
and G5 with an AGP slot. They list it as completely compatible with
"any G5" and the G4 Quicksilver, MDD, DA, FW. They even say it will
fit in "8x and 4x AGP".Is it that these are not Mac Edition cards
but flashed PC cards? If the G5 and G4 have physically different
AGP slots, then how is that possible? No flashed pc card would ever
have an adc connection either - right?

On May 25, 2011, at 9:42 PM, Baldassare Guzzo wrote:

Yes. The '9800' refers to the chipset, not the bus configuration.

-- Or should I just leave the 128 Ti card and forget it?

 When these 'reserved'
connections came into use with 8x agp apple had to redesign the agp
slot for

the G5 and called it agp pro - effectively killing any backward
compatibility for a G5 mac edition card in a G4 - it won't physically
fit.
And flashed 8x capable cards need the tape fix to isolate the adc
pins in

the agp slot.
I have never come across a 4x agp 9800 pro specifically for a G4
and it
probably doesn't exist as the apple spec lists the best card for a
MDD model

as the 128 Ti.
However the pc versions of the 9700/9800 pro and even the 9800
XT will

all physically fit and work comfortably in the G4 range when flashed and
taped. Though some care should be taken with card/slot compatibility
as the
universal 2x/4x/8x connector on the card has two notches - whereas
the later
4x/8x connector has only one and will not fit in the earlier G4
models with

2x agp like the cube and sawtooth etc.

Try finding a Mac user group in the area via the Apple web site.

Apple made a hash of some of their 2x/4x agp slots by combining adc
connections within them - the connections they used should have been unused
and reserved for future improvements to the agp spec. When these 'reserved'
connections came into use with 8x agp apple had to redesign the agp slot for
the G5 and called it agp pro - effectively killing any backward
compatibility for a G5 mac edition card in a G4 - it won't physically fit.
