Re: OT: Multiple Voting When It's Prohibited

2013-04-22 Thread Brian Fuelleman
More often than not, the voting system records your ISP address, and or your
email address, beyond that, most of the limitations come from those who are
doing the polling/recording the vote tally.
As to getting around it, you can have multiple email addresses and or vote from
multiple ISP addresses/locations.

I'm curious: how do folks get around online quizzes and such that have
a limit on voting?
For instance, if I can vote once / day I see a note that reads
Already Voted! after I have done so. Which is as it should be.

However, I'm sure that folks have packed their votes by voting
multiple times in one day.

Not that I intend to do this (at least not for now!), but how is it
possible to get around the once / 24 hour rule?

I've tried a few things already:
- Emptied the cache
- Trashed cookies forms
- Reset Safari

Those don't work, so how do they do it?
The more things that do not work, the more curious I am to find how it
is done!

Re: teach yourself illustrator CS3

2013-03-27 Thread Brian Fuelleman
The major issues with programs like Superpaint is that it creates raster images
rather than vector art, and the files tend to be much larger for anything close
to full size, even at the lowest resolution considered high res (300DPI).
You also have extreme limitations on trying to manipulate or change elements in
the artwork, re-scaling, etc., at a later date.

What program are you trying to get the halftone image to  print from?
Photoshop on it's own has some capabilities in this area, and if you are going
to do a lot of images, and or you want more control on the finished look, you
might consider Andromeda's Screens filter/plug-in for Photoshop, it gives you a
great deal of control on the size of the halftone dots, the pattern, the
threshold level, and more.  The filter is great, but it's not cheap.

and this has worked very well:

1) Open everything and remove batteries, hard disks, etc.
2) Take each object (computer, hard disk, memory, battery, etc) and place them
in a bowl or other open-top container of rice. For laptops, keep the screen
hinge open. Rice is porous and sucks up water.
3) Put the bowls in the oven at 110 Fahrenheit (43C) for several hours.

Click  on one of the images and do a Get Info, that will at least tell you a
date, and possibly a version of the software that created or modified it.
You might also look at the file names/numbers and do a search on the internet
to see what it matches up with.

Re: Painter X question

2011-07-03 Thread Brian Fuelleman
Beyond the obvious question of Did you burn a backup copy of the program when
you got it?, my suggestion would be to contact Corel and see what they have to
say, you may be able to get a new download of the program, provided you still
have the Key from the original copy. If they will do that, BURN A COPY TO A CD
BEFORE YOU INSTALL IT! Include the Key on the CD so that you have a sterile
backup should anything go wrong again in the future.

- Did you reinstall Painter? If not, try doing it.
- If an uninstaller is included, uninstalll the app and install it again.
- Try deleting Painter preferences.

Apart from that, the only option I can think of is asking help to Corel's

I'm sorry to say this, but most problem of this kind comes from original and

Ironically, you often have less trouble running pirated software: as an
extreme measure, you could find a pirated copy of Painter X (try Torrent,

If they are both on the same computer then why would you need to open the file

Hello,

Just a little quirk I encountered in Toast. I have versions 6 in
Panther and 8 in Tiger. Because Toast 8 would often hiccup in play
mode, I zipped it and returned to the trusty 6 which plays just fine
in Tiger.

When I tried to unzip my version 8 again for burning DVDs my Tiger
told me that I'm not allowed to do that. Darn!

Any workaround that comes to mind here? I'm just flummoxed, not
angry ...

Thanks, Jörg.

step1: Create a new folder and name it whatever you want

Just a re-cap, you will create a new folder and name it whatever you want.
In this folder you'll have 2 folders: your VIDEO_TS folder and an empty
 folder called AUDIO_TS.

choose type DVD-ROM (UDF) from the left side pannel

step5: drag your folder that has both the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder onto
the main window of Toast (it should say Drag files and folders into this
 area).

step6: click the red burn button and follow the rest of the instructions on
 the screen.

Arnel,
As succinct and clear a summary of Toast procedure as I've ever seen.
Bravo!
Dana

Except in Toast 6, I always select Video, then on the left panel choose
DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS

This gives you the option of selecting NTSC or PAL, and in Toast 8 or later,
you
also have the option to compress to fit on a standard single-layer blank DVD,
if
your VIDEO_TS folder 4.7GB

Re: proper mic for iMic on a G5

Look at your local office supply store (Staples, Office Max, etc.) in their
cellular and cordless phone section, they have a selection you can choose from,
including Blue Tooth setups. Standard phone headsets and mikes are mono not
stereo, but understand that they also tend to use or have just one ear
phone/speaker. If you want mono with two earphones then you need to get to an
aviation shop for pilots, they cost a good bit more but they tend to be well
made too.

Why do you want a mono headset? A stereo headset can be very helpful in a

Re: Video convertion

2010-04-20 Thread Brian Fuelleman
If this is more than a one time thing for you then you might consider something
like Total Video Converter from Biggasoft, it imports and exports just about
any file format for video. http://www.bigasoft.com
If this is just a one time thing you might find someone local with FinalCut to
do the conversion for you. I'm surprised that the manufacturer's software
didn't come with the ability to convert their files to something more universal.

Re: Best OS for MDD

2010-04-04 Thread Brian Fuelleman
Part of the answer is going to depend upon what you want this machine to do.
What program or programs do you want or need to run on it?
Will this be set in network with other CPUs or will this be a solo operating
machine?
While OS 9.2.2 may run fastest and use the least amount of ram, if you can't
run the program(s) you need to, or can't network with other computers when
using it then it doesn't help you out.
Finding the balance between the needs and capabilities with speed and
compatibilities is the trick.

Re: G3 With Squeaky Hard Drive

2010-03-30 Thread Brian Fuelleman
Are both drives squeaking or just one of them?
You might try disassembling them and checking the interior for signs of wear.
It might tell you what is rubbing and causing the squeak, you may be able to
realign it or lubricate the offending area. If it requires lubricating then I
wouldn't put much hope in the drive(s) lasting that long. You might consider
talking to the manufacturer, tell them what you just purchased and what the
issues are, you may be able to get replacements for little or no money.
Couldn't hurt to ask.

Subject: G3 With Squeaky Hard Drive

Hi All,

The other day I bought 2 brand new SCSI drives from Computer Geeks off
ebay. The drives were so cheap, I couldn’t resist. I got what I paid
for.

Both new drives make a squeaky sound, sort of like a squeaky wheel.
It’s consistent, happens every 35 seconds or so. I know this isn’t a
good thing, but does it mean imminent drive failure or is it just a
nuisance sound?

I hate to RMA them, shipping will cost as much as the drives.

Just looking for opinions from the forum. I’ve had drive make a lot of
clicking sounds but never a squeak.

New drives:
IBM Ultrastar 73LZX 9GB 10k 4MB 68-pin SCSI Hard Drive
-Series: Ultrastar 73LZX
-Model: IC35L009UWD210-0

Installed them into my:
B/W G3 - 350Mhz / Rev. 2
OS 9.2.2.
Ram 896MB
Adaptec APD-29160N U160 SCSI PCI Card For MAC

TIA

Geno
