Re: 9600 Pro or XT as alternative to 9800 (was Re: MDD G4 odd start/restart behavior)

2012-12-13 Thread John Laughlin
A Mac flashed 9700 works fine, too. Been using one in my G4 Digital
Audio for at least two years, possibly three years. No pins taped on
it...

 Greetings all!

On a related, but slightly different note:

What about using an ADC/DVI version of the 9600 (either the Pro or XT)
instead of the 9800? I have seen a number of them for sale on eBay. Since
they are ADC, they might play better with the MDD. Furthermore, they don't
appear to have the Molex secondary power connector, so that would be another
problem avoided. Do they not have the molex because they draw extra power
through the ADC plug on the motherboard, or do they just draw less power?

I imagine I'd have to tape pins 3 11, but that's not a big deal.

With the 9600 XT or Pro, I'd still have hardware acceleration of Core Image
 and Quartz Extreme.

Any potential pitfalls, or other thoughts on that?

 Thanks,

 Rob J.

Maybe do a Command-Option-P-R three times at boot up... Noticed that
my G4 DA with 1.2 GHz processor seemed to be running as if it still
had the 533MHz processor in it. Zapped the PRAM, and it became much
faster.

Re: Better keyboard for my G4

2012-10-19 Thread John Laughlin
Been using a M0115 Apple Extended Keyboard with a Griffin iMate
adapter for the past year or so. Works fine on my G4 DA. Only issue
I have, is when I power up, the DVD-RW drive opens its drawer.
Otherwise, no problems.

Either that, or just resaving in Preview. Frequently, all I have to
do is resave the image file, and it gets oriented correctly.

Could also be that GraphicConverter isn't saving the EXIF data
properly. I've run into this issue before, especially if my digicam

I ran into this kind of thing a while back, and as I recall it was something
to do with the PDF format...try saving one of the rotated images as a new
file and see if it still displays un-rotated.

I have a folder of pictures that cycle through the screensaver slideshow

Why do some of them still show up sideways (which is indeed the way they
were shot)? Yes, I've gone through and rotated those of them rightside-up,
and indeed those DO show up correctly-oriented when viewed in the FINDER, or
GRAPHIC CONVERTOR and PREVIEW... but not in the screensaver slideshow.
