Old Mac never die.
I have a G4 gigabyte Mac which was built in 2000 according to Tech Tools and is now at 10.5.8 with many fire wire and USB additions with a 1000gig processor and 2 megs of ram. Can anyone help?
Been here before and thanks for the help but my problem continues. First I can not afford a new intel mac or evan a good used ppc mac. My screen is now OK with a addition of new ATI 9800 Mac Pro video card. Now the power button still does nothing, the restart button does. Took out the switch and there is nothing you can clean. Tried pushing just the the switch, no luck. I have bought a new mother board on eBay and that does the same thing as the original board with the addition on not being able to connect to the internet. Put the old board back in and am now connected. Other problems. On restart the Mac still sometimes goes into open firmware and must type mac-boot. Eventually after several tries it will boot up. Apple jack reports "{ 41 918440 } UniNEtnet :: restart" over and over in pink letters after doing it's thing. Push return and then enter "exit or re-boot" to get going again. I have 3 hard drives which I have erased and installed new copies of OS 10.5.8 on each. I bought a Western Digital Passport drive less than a year ago and it was working fine until I switched from Time Machine to Carbon Copy Cloner. Now it will not mount. In disk utilities it shows up but will not erase. " No argument" is the error and the same when I try to partition it. I bought it at the Apple store and I am taking it back there to-day. The same thing happens with the new and old main boards. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this. The video board and the external drive had problems after the swap to CCC. I love my mac and want to have it working. Where other than the main board does the mac store information that is causing my problems? Mobo help
Present configuration is a G4 gigabit with a Sonnet 1 gigahertz processor and 2 gigabytes of ram. I have 3 ATA hard drives and one firewire drive. re:replacement
My G4 gigabit has stopped working. I have an OWC 1000gz processor and 2 gigabytes of ram. Also an ATI 9800 mac pro video board. When it turns on the power button does nothing. It will boot into open firmware. When I type "reset nvram then reset all" it cycles back to open firmware. If I type "boot" I get an immediate kernal panic. The power button does nothing. Have to unplug and then replug. I have 3 hard drives and a firewire drive. I'm hopping that all my files are intact. I assume I must replace the logic board or the mac. Which G4 would allow me to plug in my hard drives? I'm using OS 10.5.8 and would like to purchase an intel mac but find the price prohibitive. Mac was running very well until about 4 days ago. Update: I hold down the "T" key and now have a screen with a nuclear sign. The re-set button now restarts the mac into open firmware. Again if I type reset-nvram then reset-all the mac restarts in open firmware. If I type "boot" it restarts but goes to a kernal panic. So I seem to have my ATI 9800 Mac pro working and parts of my main boars. I have 4 ram sticks which I have tried one at a time. Again, what should I do about replacing my Mac? Wireless keyboard

Using OS 10.5.6 on a G4 Power mac and for the last week mail is open on the desktop over night. It is not set to open in system preferences. What is going on? I can quit it and all is well until the next morning. Thunderbird behavior
Thunderbird version 3.0b2 is now requesting that I click on a link to and address to see all of my message. Never did before and I suppose it's some kind of security thing. Broken screw
I know I can just leave it alone but when I installed my ATI 9800 card one of the screws that hold the cable broke off. It is in a position where it nearly impossible to get a tool on it. Any ideas other than to just let be? --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. RE: LAN
Dan Mac 10.5.6 does not have any setting to turn on Windows sharing and neither does Vista have one to share a Mac. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. F 12 key
The F 12 key is supposed to open and close the dvd tray. I was doing this until this morning. Now it opens dashboard no matter how long you keep it pressed. Last time this happened I did a reinstall of OS 10.5.5 I now have 10.5.6. Is there a plist or something that can be replaced? Networking
OS 10.5.5 on PPC mac. Have a Compaq Laptop with win vista. I know but my wife loves windoz. The lap top was sent in for repairs and came back with Vista reloaded and all her stuff gone. I use to be able to access her pc from my mac. Found that the ip address was changed. Under network her pc does not show up. If I click on "connect to" with the new ip address I'm asked for administrator user name and password. Nothing I put in works. I do not know much about vista. Any one know how to set this up? The use of no password does not work. I use to see my son in laws pc and the neighbors. I see nothing now. I had some other problems so I did a fresh install of OS 10.5.5 and do not know if this messed up something. I have renewed the dhcp lease several times in network the system prefs. I do have work group listed and and the correct dns number. I have sharing turned on and the firewall set to accept all incoming. Any other ideas? --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
