Re: Need help with a disk problem

Well, it turns out to be simpler than I thought...

Based on the advice I received, I started poking around with the
Console app and found the following:

2010-08-26 19:27:52.100 SoftwareUpdateCheck[626] -[NSCFString
substringFromIndex:] called with out-of-bounds index. For apps linked
on Tiger this will raise an exception. For earlier apps it will
produce this one-time warning and continue with existing behavior
(which is undefined).
2010-08-26 19:27:52.105 DiskManagementTool[627] *** Uncaught
exception: [NOTE: this exception originated in the
server.]
*** -[NSCFString substringFromIndex:]: Range or index out of bounds
Aug 26 19:27:57 Jacob crashdump[628]: DiskManagementTool crashed
Aug 26 19:27:57 Jacob crashdump[628]: crash report written to: /Users/
jruschme/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/DiskManagementTool.crash.log

It turns out that the problem by MacFUSE, specifcally the fact that I
was using the PogoPlug software.

All I had to do was stop PogoPlug and now everything is fine.

Thank you all...
John

40GB drive (shows up as 36.7GB), 9 GB free

10.4.11... Up-to-date except for possibly recent Safari and Quicktime
updates.

Will do...

Network connection is otherwise good, so I'm disinclined to think
that's the issue.

Nothing obvious. Does Disk Utility show SMART status?

Nothing. It seems to be running fine otherwise.

I'd have to go back and try to find the exact site, but it was the
suggested fix for what looked like the same Software Update hang.

Good thought.. I forgot about that one.

I actually did that at the same time as the permissions fix.

Also a good thought...

Thanks...
