Camino

2010-10-04 Thread Stephen Conrad
I see it doesn't like a lot of windows open
I think I had 5 and none had more than 6-7 tabs (I had each page as a group
of similar tabs)
It kept showing the Application Not Responding (when I right clicked the
icon)

So, of the 3 browsers I still use (FF, Safari and Camino) none are without
flaws
*sighs* Will they ever get better?

Steve,

Camino used to be my favorite browser, but at some point it became
this humongous RAM hog. So it switched to Firefox, which recently
became very unstable dealing with Google sites. So I switched to
Safari, which hasn't let me down yet...

I'll answer you both.
This is Camino 2.0.4 (the most recent update I have seen)
Safari acts much the same way if you leave it open for a while. That was why
I wanted to see if Camino was any better.

Firefox can be just as bad. Many folks say it has its own memory leaks.

I've been using OmniWeb since v4 for it's features, it can use a lot of
RAM too but then I usually have about 15 tabs open all day.

In my personal experience, Safari has come a long way as far as
crashing and sucking memory away. I always have anywhere from 3 to 15
tabs always open, and I have found that Safari 5 stays stable and
doesn't hoard RAM like its prior iterations did. The only exception
seems to be Flash-heavy sites, but then Flash is the real culprit,
IMHO. I close the offending tab and that's all.

Take it from a longtime Safari hater: Safari 5 rocks.

Camino mucho problema

2009-12-24 Thread John Carmonne
Hi all
I recently started using Camino as my main browser. I really like it over Safari
However I'm getting an annoying glitch on some media items that I try to open

This is an example
http://release.theplatform.com/content.select?pid=5mCzgDf_lCZ3uKBDkKLY2_dqmD4_S0yF&UserName=Unknown

When I click this in the mail that was sent to me the Camino browser gets
stuck, just flashes forever until I quit Camino. Even if I try to open
in Safari it goes to Camino and seizes. Any ideas?

This is a wmv file. Do you have the proper codec installed? Could
this be a codec issue and not a browser issue? I do not know if it
was a coincidence, but when I went to the link Perian (a great tool
with a huge bunch of codecs) popped up with a message about a new
version. As soon as that loaded, the video played fine.

But I am running on the latest official Firefox release

FWIW, I have Perian, Flip4Mac and DivX installed and I can play most
all video files except the latest protected .wmv's.

I'm running Camino Version 1.6.9Int (1.8.1.23 2009081518) as my
primary browser
and have not upgraded to 2+ because of a glitch with 1Password.

I'm also running Flip4Mac. Camino opens the suggested wmv file in a
double window
but plays fine then in the second window (super tune by Elvis)
what version of Camino are you running John?

Also, you must have a preference set somewhere that pushes the file to
Camino
if it doesn't open in Safari.

When I read this thread in Safari and open your link, I get the play
bar only until the video loads and then
the video plays without the play bar.

I am (at the moment) using firefox. When I clicked the link Quicktime
Opened with a video clip. Under peferences in Firefox, I have wmv
(windows media file) set to Flip4Mac and to open in Quicktime.

>From this It would seem you are having codec problems (not being
loaded or misdirected in your preferences).

macupdate has flip4mac here.

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/flip4mac.mspx

You can also go to microsofts website and get it. Put it in the
google web search and it will come up.

Not sure how camino handles plugin's, but I bet there is a preference
for them. Should just be a matter of directing the content to the
proper plugin or application.

Good Luck!!!

zap the PRAM. COMMAND OPTION P R until you hear several restart chimes
Then restart holding COMMAND OPTION O T (the letters)

set-defaults (RETURN)
reset-all(Return)

Your Mac will restart and, hopefully, Camino will be reset as well.

Tony;
Try exporting from Camino to Safari.

Open Safari and Camino.

In Camino Chose "File/Export".

Chose Safari in the "Where Box" and Safari in the "Format Box".

Click Export.

Then shutdown and restart Safari.

This works in Safari 4 and Camino 1.6.6
