If you have an early 2003 G4 iMac 800 it will not boot OS9. If a 2002 and
earlier 800 then I would proceed .
If you can make a CCC of the drive to test, first initialize the external
drive Apple partition Map including the OS9 driver using Tiger. Then CCC the
drive from the iMac to the fresh firewire external it should boot from the
fresh CCC in the external. There are other ways too but this may be the fastest
and safest at the moment.

John, I do have a back up with SuperDuper. My G4 iMac is 800 mghz. I
was thinking that the OS 9 drivers might be damaged and wondered how
to re-install them?

If you can CCC the drive and then if you have enough space make a small
partition and install a fresh OS9 system on it and boot that. What is the
processor speed of your G4 iMac?

Re: G4 dual boot flat screen iMac won't boot into OS 9

2011-01-06 Thread Geke
Jane, do you have a backup image of your system?
What you write sounds like it's damaged:

1. the OS 9 drivers are there and I have started up in 9 before. But
it will NOT start up in 9 now. I even had to run Disk Warrior to get
it back to boot in 10.4. Everything else is working just fine.

2. I am using a LaCie USB external floppy drive that I have used on
this
computer before.

I would try that floppy drive on another Mac to see if it works there
-- but I guess you can't or you have tried that already.
And back up your data; the internal harddisk may need formatting or
replacement.

I am using a LaCie USB external floppy drive that I have used on this
computer before. I just now hooked up the floppy drive and put in the
disk. The green light came on, it made noises like it should, then the
green light went off. Nothing showed up on the desk top while it was
in Tiger 10.4.11. Then I started OS 9 from the desk top and still
nothing showed up. These floppies are commercial (OLD 1994) with
graphics on them. I just thought that if I booted up in 9, I could
open the floppies and drag the graphics to my iMac.

I don't think it came with a driver. Or if it did, I don't know where
it would be. Where do I look on my hard drive to see if the driver is
there?

This makes no sense. There is no floppy disc drive in any G4 iMac, and
any external USB floppy disc drive works in OS X, not OS 9. This means
you don't need to boot OS 9 to get the data you want, you simply must
install the correct software for your external USB floppy drive and
read the disc(s) from within OS X.

Have you tried to boot by selecting the OS9 folder in Start Up disk in system
preferences while running Tiger?

To boot into OS 9 I believe that it must have had OS 9 drivers
installed on
the hard drive when the drive was set up. If you go to the Start Up
Disk in

System Preferences, do you see OS 9 listed?
