Power Mac 7300 opins
Hi, Lookin for some opins... I have three Power Mac 7300s plus a partial (parts machine) sitting here idle. Two were outfitted as router/servers - an extra NIC, IPNetRouter, NetPresenz, AFP. I'm in the process now of dusting them off, checking them out, etc. I think they're either /180 or /200. Is there any interest in these old machines? Would I be better off offering them as routers or basic machines or stripped or ? (As as home router, they're good for aro 6 to 8 Mbps throughput, while offering file services and such). LEM Swap or eBay or ? Re: Power Mac 7300 opins
I'd be hard pressed to find value in these machines. I recently gave away two beige G3s, but even then, I paid shipping to find them a new home. My PowerMac 7xxx were trashed. Sad. Part of the issue with these is they probably burn more power than they are worth. Even the G4 MDDs which I love, run 160W. That's 4KWH/ day, $18/mo. Hmmm. Well, here in The Netherlands and also in Belgium and Germany I know of some collectors and even at least 3 Private Apple/Mac-Museums looking for any kind of Apple/Mac items. For The Netherlands and the Dutch=Flamisch part of Belgium put them on: http://www.tweedehandsmac.nl/ For the rest of the world: http://www.secondhandmac.com/ Would I be better off offering them as routers or basic machines or stripped or ? Never shooting is always missing, haha! For IMHO reusing old Macs is always better then recycling parts. I'd be hard pressed to find value in these machines. I recently gave away two beige G3s, but even then, I paid shipping to find them a new home. My PowerMac 7xxx were trashed. Sad. Alas, the 7300 was designed and released as the 8600 and 9600 were being designed and released. Although the 7300 comes in a 7500 serles case (as does the somewhat later G3 Desktop), it DOES NOT have a 7500-type PSU. Indeed, a 7300 has an 8600-/9600-type PSU. Also, the 7300 is a costed-down Mac ... no A-V capability. However, this can be quickly remedied. Pull out the 7300 mobo and install in its place an 8600 mobo and the A-V cable and connector which comes with it. Presto ... an 8600 in the space of a 7200/7500/7600/7300. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
