NOt according to the Mothership...

"Despite Internet rumors of forthcoming product releases, an Apple
representative confirmed that the company has no plans to release any
new products before the holidays.

“Our holiday line-up is set,” Apple spokesman Bill Evans toldMacworld.
For instance, one online report claims that Apple will release new
iMacs and an updated Mac mini on November 10. The report offers only
"Apple moles" as the source for the report."

RE: Powermac g5 or mac mini.

2008-11-04 Thread Josh Smiley

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. I keep seeing rumors that new mac minis are
close. Nov 10?

In about a year my wife and I are moving to mexico for a bit. Not sure if have
a PC and a Mac will be very portable. Also, I checked out Pystar machines. I
like what they want to do. But psystar has no iLife support and I am not sure
how their customer service is regardless of the price.

I think the mini will work fine.

Thanks again.

Another way to proceed is to buy a cheap Windows box to run your 2
apps, you can connect it to your huge LCD. You can connect a mini or
any Mac to the same LCD. My LCD has a simple switch that can switch
between analog and dvi inputs, the latter can be used respectively for
2 computers.

Welcome to the list!

Since Apple does not make an affordable , upgradeable and expandable
desktop you might take a look at This Mac OS running Psystar. It may
well fit your need.

I think in my position I'd take the G5 purely because I hate having a real
small computer-mainly for the reasons of fixing and modifying. For this the G5
is in the class above

The PowerMac G5 will NOT run Windows. VirtualPC was never updated to
run on the G5 line, and while other emulators exists they're horribly
slow. The Mini is the way to go.

You CAN connect the LCD up to newer iMacs and use it as an extended
desktop...I'm doing that right now with a 21" one on my 20" first gen
intel imac.

Re: Powermac g5 or mac mini.

2008-11-03 Thread Jeffrey Engle
I hope this helps, I recently sold a powermac G5 dual 2.0ghz after
trying to run windows via VirtualPC 7 (last version they made) and
found that windows apps run, but not very well. If I was making your
decision, I would get the 2.0ghz mini without question. I too am a bit
envious of the mac pro crowd, but ended up selling my G5 and cinema
display to purchase a new macbook... good luck in your purchase. Jeff
