Sleepless G4 iMac

2011-01-17 Thread Jonas Ulrich
I really would love some help on this. I'm tearing out my hair. I am setting
up a G4 iMac for my brother and it won't automatically sleep!

Here are the specs:

17" screen
1.25GHZ G4
1GB ram
80GB hd
upgraded DL DVDRW Superdrive
Leopard 10.5.8

It was automatically sleeping until suddenly it wasn't. It started happening
after running software update. Not sure which update. I've reset the nvram,
pram, and pmu. I've also repaired the permissions, checked the activity
monitor, and unplugged all USB devices, and shut off the airport. Nothing
works.

Please please help.

-Jonas

Re: Sleepless G4 iMac

2011-01-17 Thread Kris Tilford
Sleep is problematic in my experience. If you need to save power, have
it hibernate instead. Hibernate is like a complete shutdown, no power
being used, but the "reboot" is fast, and all your apps and windows
are exactly like you left them. The only minor problem might be a lost
Airport connection, which may also read wrong in the Airport menu
item. You'd turn Airport off & on again to reestablish connection.

There are a couple 3rd-party preference panes for selecting between
Hibernate only; Sleep then Hibernate; Sleep only; or Never Sleep or
Hibernate.
