Now wait a minute... I have a Marrantz quad with Electro-Voice TRX

And I love 'em...

Shuold have gone for the $1200.00 Klipsch Horn instead. Sorry, but I
had to stick up for my home state. Women who can eat corn on the cob
through a picket fence, and Bill Clinton, are not the only things to
come out of Hope, AR. As for that $500.00 wooden volume knob, sounds
like it's time to fire up the Skil saw!. I'll bet I can knock those out
for only $350.00, and still make a profit! Peace, Dennis, in Texas,
keeping both states happy.

I have to partially disagree here. In my youth (early 80's), when I
had hair and good hearing, I could tell the difference between $200
pr KMart specials, $500pr Klipschs, $900pr Polks (top of the line,
which I bought) and, the Quad ESL63s ($5,000 pr, iirc).

Yes, there is a point of diminishing returns, and for most people the
low (not bottom) end is the sweet spot. But there will always be
people for whom the last little improvement is worth the
extraordinary price jump. Whether it is the professional musician or
rich audiophile hobbyist buying the B & O speakers or that Mac
enthusiast who paid the extra $700 (20% price bump) for less than a
10% speed increase in buying the 733MHz DA over the 667MHZ back in
the day, there will always be that market.

Barring audiophile quality needed, any old pair of 'computer speakers'
will do.

Places like 'Big Lots' usually have a selection to choose from;
Computer Geeks has 'em from $4.99 up , Buy.com has 'em too including this
tasteful pair for $12 :-)

WalMart, Target, Best Buy etc etc will all carry some.

If you want 5.1 or 'audiophile' quality, stick to a known brand name,
like Bose or the like.
