I found that for my system (DA Dual 533 running 10.5) that MPlayer actually is less processor intensive than VLC and runs a little smoother on low end hardware. Re: mp4 trouble
One thing to bear in mind, always: MP2 files (which is what DVD's use) are optimized for playback on lower end processors...when DVD's were introduced, processors werea LOT less powerful than today, even dedicated ones like in DVD players. MP4's are smaller, but require greater processing power to view. This is why DVD Player on a Pismo, for instance, works perfectly well, yet MP4's and Flash skip, stall, and get out of synch. This is the trade-off between size and convenience. -- Bruce Johnson University of Arizona College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Let me guess: it works fine on the MPB, G5 and G4 duallie, but skips on the TiBook? H.264 is pretty CPU-intensive. If it's skipping on all of 'em there's something wrong with your ripping setup, or its some form of copy protection interfering. IT doesn't play right on any of the machines the TiBook has a skip issue. On the G4 G% and MBP The sound is late by about 5 seconds but no skipping. I just made one with the compression feature on RipIT and it plays good however it makes a 1.25 gig file and that's to large for my propose. RipIT doesn't have a size preference that I can find, that's why I use VisualHub. TI don't think machines are not the fault here it's the file because the mp4s created by RipIT works fine on the G4 Dual 1.25 up to the MBP? One thing I've learned to do is, at least test my stuff before I give it to someone and appear to be an idiot. I can make other mp4s from my DVD rips and they play right, This one set seems to be a problem. It's nothing special just a couple of Roxy Music flicks. The DVDs made from the rip are fine. mp4 trouble
Hi All I've been making some mp4s with VisualHub and the sync of sound and video is about 5 to 8 seconds off. I've made some before and all were good. The DVDs play properly.
