For that I use Guake dropdown terminal, Tig and some shortcuts to the different directories I am working in, so that on each computer and each program I work with (different Editors, different IDEs) I have the same interface and the same couple of keystrokes to do versioning in Git, what I do all the time the whole day long. For me a special interface for Git in any IDE/Editor is wasted energy as I never will use it as long as it is not faster and more convenient than that I am using on all programs. And I doubt there ever will be one as GUI. A common criticism to Git is, that there is no real sufficient GUI for it, but I think the real reason for that is, that if one works with Git in different circumstances, commandline will always be the fastest and most flexible option. Normally one would clone the repo first, then work with it and just fetch the differences: Clone: git clone https://gitlab.com/gambas/gambas Then you are automatically on the master branch, which is bleeding edge development. Fetch only differences since last clone/pull: cd gambas git pull And that's all. If your current branch is master then you always are on bleeding edge! (do configure/make/install as usual) But as you now have the complete repository on your computer you can easyly switch to another version, you can checkout tags and also branches: For actual stable you would do: git checkout v3.10.0 For an older one: git checkout v3.7.1 I dont know much about compiling gambas, but I think, that a "make clean" could be neccessary between compiler runs. I fear there is none. If you create and use own libs you have to distinguish between development and production. Development: At development time a lib has to be defined as such (type "library" in the project dialog) and "vendor" has also to be defined with an unique name. If you compile the project, the IDE places the lib in ~/.local/share/gambas3/lib/[vendor]/ say ... ~/.local/share/gambas3/lib/yourname/ And all other projects can use the libs residing in ~/.local/share/gambas3/lib Production: If you create a installation package from a library project and install it on any system with Gambas3 on it (even your development system), the libs will be installed in /usr/lib/gambas3/yourname A project which depends on a lib will search for it there. The naming of the lib is always like that: yourlib:1.4.gambas Which includes the version string, so that different versions of libs can reside together in the lib directory. When I started Gambas programming I also made some structs for the purpose of bringing a couple of variables together to define an object. But in Gambas the right tool for that is a class. But there is a caveat: If one wants to include a lib whith unittests in it, the lib requires the unittest component to be installed in the program, that uses the lib. Because every single test class has to have a "Inherits ATestContainer" in it to work as expected. Without the Unittest component installed Gambas won't start a program that relies on that library. That's bad. I searched and did not find a way around it. Therefor I see the development of the unittest component beeing in alpha state. [Gambas-user] Unittest for Gambas
Hello, one of the things I felt Gambas was lacking, was unittests. When I was developping software with Gambas I always had a couple of testmodules in my projects lying around, but it was not very satisfying. Especially, because I had to rewrite stuff for each new library. So I searched for elaborated solutions for unittests for Gambas, but couldnt find one. The only thing I found was an old framework written in Visual Basic, called ComUnit. It was kind of software archeology to understand, how this thing worked as I decided to fork it. And it took a couple of days (fortunately I suffered with influenza, so I had a little time) to rewrite it for Gambas. But now it is usable, it works in my projects, with Gambas 3.9. It is basic (sic!), there are no parameterized tests, I do not know, whether it is secure, whether classes are exposed unnecessarily, whether it is useful for automation of tests and it's a mixture of mine and the original author's coding style. But I think, it could be a good beginning. It's here: https://github.com/Deganius/gb.deg.unittest/ And in the Software Farm. But naturally more recent at Github. I would be glad if you could try it out. I'm currently writing a project for unittesting for Gambas, it is inspired from http://comunit.sourceforge.net/ and PHPUnit. I would like to share it on GitHub and if the quality is ok and you agree, name it "GUnit" or "GbUnit" or so and share it with the Gambas community. At the moment I am unsure, whether to make a library or a component with it. This could eventually be a nice candidate for an IDE extension. But I would like to invoke it by keyboard shortcut, because it would be something one uses nearly as often as "F5" if one does test driven programming. Also it could be an integrated part of the IDE (like profiling) because it has to run inside the project it has to test. It could be a component and if a project uses this component, the IDE could recognize it and runs it by keyboard shortcut. Thank you! The libs are with correct name in ~/.local/share/gambas3/lib/deganius/... (Vendor name is "deganius") Gambas placed them there when I hammered "Ctrl-X" in the IDE during development. My Makefile defines a couple of Gambas programs and libraries. They are built with gbc3 and gba3. One library depends on the existence of some others. Make builds all correct. The strange thing now is: # debuild binary (which uses the Makefile) fails. At compile time the compiler does not see the existing libraries in ~/.local/share/gambas3/lib/deganius But # dpkg-buildpackage -b (which also uses the Makefile) works ... Ok, the problem is now gone by usage of dpkg-buildpackage, but I'd like to understand what is now different, that since Gambas 3.9.1 debuild is broken ... For a REST webservice you need a good tutorial, but not really a framework. The only thing that is needed for REST is a router that maps url paths to functions and sends back the result via HTTP. The result can be anything, a file, an integer, a Json string, whatever. Here is an example with the microframework Slim for PHP: https://arjunphp.com/creating-restful-api-slim-framework/ A router does a mapping like this: > Method URL Action > GET/api/todos Retrieve all todos > GET/api/todos/search/bug Search for todos with ‘bug’ in their name > GET/api/todo/1 Retrieve todo with id == 1 > POST /api/todo Add a new todo > PUT/api/todo/1 Update todo with id == 1 > DELETE /api/todo/1 Delete todo with id == 1 > OH MEN this will be hard to implement and made a component! too much to > implement!?!! Sure, I understood. But I do not use versioning in the IDE. And I do not use Svn any more. If I have done my work in the IDE I go to the project's folder in the terminal and use the program tig to commit the changes to the local repository (which is inside the .git folder). Afterwards I push the local changes to my main repository on my server. Tig itself is a great interface to a Git repository on the commandline. And git as I use it on the commandline is very mighty, especially with branches. I show you how: -- If I want to develop a new feature, I first create a new branch as a copy of the master branch, when I'm on the master branch: git branch new_feature Then switch over from master to that branch: git checkout new_feature Then do my work and develop the new feature. Then do a commit of my work(*see_later): git commit -a -m "new feature added" Then switch over to the master branch git checkout master Then merge my work into master: git merge new_feature -- With this kind of workflow, I can develop inside a lot of parallel branches (if I want to). Every time a feature in a separated branch is done, I can merge it into the master branch. I also can have a separate branch for hotfixes which I have to merge into the master but also into development branches. Git is very mighty and flexible and once you understand it, you never want to go back to Svn any more. -- *see_later: I do not do my commits with git, instead I use tig, as mentioned before. Because while I develop a feature, I usually do not want to do just only one commit, but instead many commits. One for the Latex files, another one for the code, a third one for the form, the next one for a module and so on. Commits in git are fine-grained and this for me is better done with tig. If a child does not overwrite the property, it has to be fulfilled by the parent, so the property in the parent has to bedeclared with property_read() ... property_write() ... so that methods later work in a correct way. Hm... can you pack that data in a separated lib? I did so with some of my libs which grew too much. One big lib became 4 smaller ones. Thats also better to prevent spaghetti code (but not dependency hell ;-)). > Also generally speaking I hope there is easier way to do this. Seems not, because libs are executables. How can I see what happens in the library? If you have to debug a lib, simply copy the code to the project using the lib (and remove the lib itself from your project). In the project you can make a subdir AAALib (or something equivalent – I do this to remember, that the lib's code is inside my project) and copy the sourcecode there. Then you can test your project, debug and change the code. When done, move the sourcefiles back to your lib, make an executable of them and include it again in your project. [Gambas-user] Lib Export Problem in /usr/bin
Hello, there is a problem within my project in Gambas 3.8.4 with one library. When this library is in /usr/bin, a couple of classes is not available any mone, despite they are exported. I made a screenshot from another projects' library importer: As you can see, the same library deg-person.gambas is: 1) In a subdir of my homedir. It presents all exported classes. 2) In /usr/bin. Here it presents not all exported classes. Some of them are not available any more. Does anyone know why?
