Re: [Gambas-user] help with some simple parsing

2009-05-06 Thread Emil Tchekov
You can use Replace$ to search and remove the \t character in your string.

I am not so fluent in Gambas, but the good old VB6 does support (null
string) as replacement, so I suppose that Gambas also do this.

Just put your a_line there and search for any \t, replace with (null
string)...

Your text will get cleared

...

Other point of mention:

It will may be better to split also the a_line on the TAB char and thus
receive semi-two dimensional array containing your values. Then you can
start (re-)creating / displaying your data properly.

kind regards

See the attached file for the data. Unfortunately I'm brain dead when it
comes
to simple logic.

In one of my hl7 messages in the Free Text segment under an actual pathology
result, there is a list of sequential bood test results representing
previous
results of the same type - , separated by tabs which I need to display
properly. as I've re-constructed the result as html, the tabs simply
disappear in the result, so I've been looking for a solution, and to start I
thought maybe I could split this up into lines and then later put it into a
table embedded in the html to keep it aligned.

Perhaps there is a simple way out, but this is what I've done so far.

So I started with this:

1) Split this into lines

Dim bits as string[]
dim a_line as string

bits = split(the_text_in_the_file,BR,, TRUE)

for each a_line in bits
print a_line
next

Problem with this is that the \t (I presume tab character) gets in the way,
and it dosn't split properly with the results of the bits[] as shown in the
picture. Interestingly an occasional letter is lost off the test names.

Any help appreciated.

Re: [Gambas-user] binary numeral system

2009-04-14 Thread Emil Tchekov
Just checked the gambas online documentation.

The TextBox does have CHANGE event - thus it is possible to make converter
wich reacts on each additional letter typed

as example here my fast shoot maded in VB6 - very simple and without error
handling (BUT WORKING!)

Private Sub txtBin_Change()
Dim StrBin As String

StrBin = Me.txtBin

If StrBin   Then

Me.lblDec.Caption = CStr(dec(StrBin))

Else

Me.lblDec.Caption = n.a.

End If

End Sub

Private Function dec(ByVal StrBin As String) As Long
Dim i As Integer
Dim l As Integer
Dim c As String

l = Len(StrBin)

dec = 0

For i = 1 To l

c = Mid(StrBin, i, 1)

If c = 1 Then
dec = dec + 2 ^ (l - i)
End If

Next i

End Function

 so to have result we have to do (1*2^4)+(0*2^3)+(0*2^2)+(1*2^1)+(1*2^0)=
 16+0+0+2+1=19

 to do that in a program first i have to calculate the powers
 so i have to write (y=number of digits) for the first of the digits
y-1,second y-2etc

 so if i have 5 digits then the power for the first one will be y-1=5-1=4

 this is done by the Len(textbox1.text)

 but HOW i will write Len(textbox1.text)=y ?

 then how i can make the program to recognize that for the 1st digit
entered in the Textbox1.text have to
 give (d*2^y-1) (d=the digit that can be 0 or 1 and y the number of the
digits) for the second (d*2^y-2)etc...

 so the main question is how i can make JUST ONE TEXTBOX to understand that
for every digits enter it will give something else for a result

Hi Vlahonick,

I'm not sure to understand exactly what you want to do!
1) If you want to convert a bynary number to decimal value,
you just have to write in Gambas exactly what you sayd in
your message! :)
2) If you want to display the changing decimal value as soon
as you enter a binary digit, this is not possible because
you don't know what WILL be the final length of the binary
number!

For the 1) comprehension, here is an exemple (I took a
TextArea because I want to start a new line in the text)

PUBLIC SUB Button1_Click()
DIM S AS String
DIM i, y, N AS Integer

S = TextArea1.Text
y = Len(S)
if y = 0 THEN RETURN
N = 0
FOR i = 1 to y
   d = Val(Mid(S, i, 1)) ' I assume that d is 0 or 1
   N += d * (2 ^ (y-i))
NEXT
TextArea1.Text = \nBinary   S   = decimal   Str(N)
END

Hope I understand you!

Re: [Gambas-user] (no subject)

2009-04-02 Thread Emil Tchekov
I am not so fluent in Gambas, but have made many char converters in the
past...

Instead of using IFs it is better to work with char codes (ASCII, UTFxx).

Create Array with suitable char width (8, 16, 32 Byte) and fill in with what
you need.

As example: on InChar A should be shown sth. other. put in your array's
65-th element what you wish to have as answer.

Than the whole code reduces to:

sRetChar=YOURARRAY(ASC(sInChar))

It is much faster than multiple IFs

2009-02-17 Thread Emil Tchekov
Hello Doriano,

I have to excuse me - it was never my intention to insult your, as it seems
deeper going feelings, regarding this particular 2 Bytes :-D

Ofcourse you are right - they are (and will be in the future also) still in
use...

But here is the point where I do not agree with you:

I do not know how old are you... My first date with CRLF was on my very
expensive (4000 USD) Apple ][ with the huge ammount of 48 KB RAM, 16 KB
ROM, 144 KB Floppy Disk and rare extension - Video Card allowing me to work
with 80x25 chars instead of the usual 40x25 ... Not to mention the
extraordinary calculation power based on the 1 MHz 6502 CPU ;-).

So please excuse when I am calling this stone age, but my very simple
mobile phone laying in my pocket offers 2 GB of storing capacity on volume
that the old Apple used to store about 16KB and about 300 MHz RISC based
power...

It was not a try to reduce the meaning and importance of those command
chars - but simply to show how long they are in use...

Very best regards

And one more time excuse my lack of respect

Pardon me to point out. I disagree,
chr$(13) is CR; chr$(10) is LF.
While it is true they are an old standard, saying they are from the
stone age is not fair. HTTP protocol relies on CR-LF, and you must
admit that HTTP protocol is well alive - not a stone age standard. The
fact CR-LF is so old is a proof of its power.
Moreover, text files are the most expressive and versatile form of
digital data. Html, Xml, Svg, Postscript, PDF, are all in wide use and
are based on ASCII, and so they contain CR-LF sequences.

The fact Unix/Linux uses a single LF instead of a CR-LF is pretty
marginal - it was simply a design choice. A windows HTTP server can take
text files from disk and serve them verbatim, while a Unix HTTP server
has to translate them (to add the missing CR). Anyway, the concept is
the same. Most programs today can cope perfectly well with this two
standars.

In the end, the only thing I wanted to say is that CR and LF are far
more than what you depicted, and they are still needed.

Re: [Gambas-user] Gambas2 USB detect !!??

2009-01-03 Thread Emil Tchekov

 drive. I haven't hooked any USB drives up to my Ubuntu server since I
 upgraded so I don't know if every distro has logs that look like that, or
 just Mandriva.

 Rob

Good idea - /var/log/messages should be present on every linux

looking in there can provide interesting infos... (be base for usefull GUI
apps). May be coupled with comparing current time / log time in order to look
only for current events...

The problem ist - as normal user you are not allowed to read it...

regards

Emil

Re: [Gambas-user] ByRef

2008-09-02 Thread Emil Tchekov
Hello Stevie,

If this is similar to the ByRef from VB, there is following to be said:

In Subroutine or Function that expects parameters passed from other part of
your program there are two possibilities to pass them

By Value (ByVal) or by Reference (ByRef).

First one means that your Sub gets only the Value and does NOT change the
variable that was passed in.

Passing by Reference is almoust the same as the pointer concept from C
language, INTERN the address of the var is passed so the Value CAN be
changed inside the Subroutine.

Hereby you must be carefull, sometime passing ByRef can spare time and
ressources, but it can also be (used without deeper mean) a source of hardly
to track bugs...

kind regards

Emil

Hello List!

I've switched to development version 3.0 and I'm trying to get rid of this
ByRef thing. I wonder, if someone could explane the syntax to me!

Thanks in advance!!

Re: [Gambas-user] ByRef

2008-09-02 Thread Emil Tchekov
Forgot to gave you example (VB)

sub main()

dim a as integer

a=1

debug.print a, pr1(a)
debug.print a, pr2(a)
debug.print a

end sub

private sub pr1(byval a)

a=2

return a

end sub

private sub pr2(byref a)

a=2

return a

end sub

result will be as follows

1   2

1* 2

2 (!)

*As you can see on the first sub the var a is local to your sub, it was
changed (returns 2), but the passed a has stil value 1

(!) in the second procedure the passed var a was changed! (the a that was
defined in the sub main!)

Bonjour Benoit,

J'ai un message Null object avec gb.net.smtp sur la phrase ci-dessous

Smtp.To.Add([EMAIL PROTECTED])

Smtp est auparavant initialisé par DIM Smtp AS NEW SmtpClient

Y'a quelquechose de changé dans la syntaxe ? Car cela fonctionnait comme ca
avant, il me semble ? Et la doc donne la même syntaxe aussi.

Mandiva 2008.1
Gambas 2.7

Merci.

jacky
