The CD image is split up into multiple RAR archives. You'll need to install
unrar to be able to extract it and get the image file from inside.

[Gambas-user] trouble with cgi scripting - Error 24 No Startup Method

2010-02-20 Thread Joshua Higgins
Hi list, I've been writing some scripts and keep getting this Error 24 No
Startup Method. This is what I get when I run them directly from the
console:

gbw2 -v index.cgi
gbs: compiling server page

USE gb.web
PUBLIC SUB Main()
  Response.Buffered = TRUE
  Response.Begin
  _PrintPage()
  Response.End
END

PRIVATE SUB _PrintPage()
DIM sEnv AS String
PRINT html stuff is here
END

gbs: create project
gbs: process file: /tmp/gambas.0/16002/gs.tmp
ERROR: #24: No startup method

I've tried this on two different pc's, both with a clean ubuntu 9.10 install
on and gambas 2.13. The scripts work the first time, then after a couple of
minutes literally just stops working and I have no idea why.

If anyone could shed any light on this it would be much appreciated.
(I have attached the script that I'm running thats generating this error for
me. The strange thing is this script worked the first time and I haven't
made any changes to it)
Thanks.

Re: [Gambas-user] trouble with cgi scripting - Error 24 No Startup Method

2010-02-20 Thread Joshua Higgins
I'm still having this problem, I haved tried it now with 2.13, 2.18, 2.19
and svn and they are all the same. I have a feeling its something Ubuntu
related, because it is intermittent. It has been working for the last 30
mins, but now it has stopped again, giving me the Error 24 again and again.

I've noticed that in /tmp/gambas.0/script-cache, there are all my scripts
compiled. It is not working normally (through the web browser), but if I run
one of the scripts directly from the cache when it was compiled 30 mins ago
(when it was working), it works. But the script I've tried to run just now
does not work, even if you manually run the executable in the script cache.

This is all very strange. It seems that sometimes gbw2 will compile an
executable that has the error 24, and sometimes it does not. Or is it the
interpreter, gbr2, that is sometimes producing the error 24?

[Gambas-user] changing the picture in a columnview item

2010-02-15 Thread Joshua Higgins
Hi list,

I'm creating a columnview item to show status, like this:

MachineView.Add(192.168.0.1, router, Picture.Load(waiting.png))
...
MachineView.Item[4] = Waiting

But then changing it later on as a status update comes in like this:

  MachineView[thekey][4] = Online

My question is, how can I change the picture that I originally created this
item with? I want to change it to either online.png or offline.png

Thanks.

Good idea, seems better that way.

Benoit, is there a central place we can put this script?

2010/1/17 Doriano Blengino doriano.bleng...@fastwebnet.it:
 Hi Joshua,

just took a look at your script, and wanted to make a stupid suggestion.

 Instead of writing:

   echo [OperatingSystem] $OutputFile
   echo OperatingSystem=$OS $OutputFile

with many repeats, you could do:

   (
       echo [OperatingSystem]
       echo OperatingSystem=$OS
if [ blah blah blah ]; then
          ...
       fi
   ) $OutputFile

...easier to write and less error-prone.

 Just a thought.

Using the Slider's _menu event, for right click, instead of _DblClick works
as expected.

2009/8/24 Aleksandrs Livshics alek...@mpe.lv

 Dear Gambas users,
I am new to Gambas and my question may be silly,
however I cannot find how to set a slider value in the
code. (Not the initial value, this is easy)
I want to specify some event (like double click on a slider)
to force it to jump to a predefined position/value.

If I write Dbl_click() method and use something like
 My_slider.value = The_value
in it, then slider on screen does not move from where
I have set it previously with a mouse. More precisely,
It jumps to a position which corresponds to The_value
and back to where it was before!
 Any ideas would be helpful.

Re: [Gambas-user] gbs web application debugging - find line numbers?

2009-08-06 Thread Joshua Higgins
I'm using Gambas 2 (Ubuntu packaging for Intrepid) and

gbw2 -c -v marking_grid_course.adp source.txt

works great. Its easy to find the line numbers sending it to a file and
opening it in, e.g. mousepad.

2009/8/5 Benoît Minisini gam...@users.sourceforge.net

  Hi,

I'm building a web application, but its currently a pain to debug the
scripts. Everything is working fine (Apache and etc) and file permissions
are okay, but a pesky line in my script is throwing a file not found
 error,
and I cannot find which one. This is the output catched in apache's
  error.log

MMain._PrintPage.45: #45: File or directory does not exist
  0: MMain._PrintPage.45
  1: MMain.Main.6

How do I find out which line number is the offending line? 45 and 6 don't
relate to any lines in my script file.

  Thanks.

 Mmm, it is not practical.

You can do that to see the generated code:

 $ gbs3 -v -c /path/to/my/page

It will verbosely recompile the page.

Then you may be able to find the line #45 in the _PrintPage generated
 function.

A better solution should be found. Maybe some sort of annotation inside the
generated code, so that you can get the line number of the original file
inside the error message... I don't know at the moment.

 Regards,

Re: [Gambas-user] question on running Gambas Executable on others distro

2009-07-18 Thread Joshua Higgins

I think I have to explain my question more detail . how are we distribute
our application written in gambas ? we can't expect that our target user
know how to install gambas or compile it .

The Gambas IDE can make packages for you for any distro.

I create a
demo live linux cd that primary just run my program without any desktop
 program in it .

I recommend using Ubuntu as a base for your live CD as the Gambas packages
are easy to install, and the live CD is really easy to make. This page
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomizationFromScratch details how
to create a live cd using ubuntu from scratch, so it can be as minimal as
you want.

In short, you'll need xorg, openbox (or another window manager), and the
gambas-runtime package. If you use the IDE to create a deb file, all the
dependencies will be solved for you, so you just need to simply install it
inside your live cd chroot.

Hope this helps you. IMO its much easier than trying to remaster say damn
small or puppy, and you won't end up with all the unwanted crap (like
desktop environment).

[Gambas-user] Strange compile procedure on Ubuntu jaunty

2009-06-10 Thread Joshua Higgins
Hello again,

I've compiled the latest 2.13.1 on Ubuntu Jaunty from the tarball on the
Gambas homepage. I tried for days with no avail, it kept failing with
Makefile.in errors (not found).

To get it to compile, I had to create the folder /home/username/Gambas and
untar the source package there. Then it went without a hitch.

Is this expected behaviour?

As a note, I also tried this with the 2.10 tarball, and its the same.

So, it's easy to produce packages.

All the X-Window part exist on Mac by simply package to install

For Qt and Kde, it's the same. For Gtk, I need to search but I think

Re: [Gambas-user] Feature Request - Package Management

2009-05-19 Thread Joshua Higgins
Sun's JDK binaries also includes the dependencies needed, and we'd need a
package for each architecture, but I'm all for the idea.
I'm assuming that it would install it somewhere like /opt, then
the dependencies would be in a separate prefix there too. The only problem
then is, say because your on Hardy, you'd possibly have two different GTK
versions and it may get hard to maintain efficiently, unless the install
script detected the distro, and automatically satisfied the dependencies,
but then you might as well make a load of .debs.

Just my thoughts

2009/5/19 KhurramM kms...@gmail.com

 Hi all!

I dont know, if its possible, but I like to have a installer like:

 gambas-3.1.2-install.bin or gambas-3.1.2-install.sh

for every new release (stable or unstable), for all linuxes.

 Advantages:

 1 Faster updating.
2 Faster bug fixing (as every one uses it).
3 More documentation to configure and use.
4 Choice to use any version any-time.
5 Be independent of compiling and dependency seeking.
6 Single repos for all linux-variants.
 7 Easy downgrading, if required.
8 Easy testing of a unstable release.
 9 Installing as a core-package rather then a dependent.
 10 More helps available.

Just as sun offers jdk and jre releases fro linuxes.

Installer and un-installer packages be also available in the same format.

 Please Agree!:-) Thanks in advance.

Currently I am on hardy, and I dont find it comfortable to compile.

 Best Regards to all..

 Hi all,

I didn't know this page existed. Can we all put little tutorials on here?

 1) How does one get username/password

 2) Presumably this page is for anyone to view, however it asks for
username/password when one tries to view a link.

Re: [Gambas-user] gambas server page.

2009-05-02 Thread Joshua Higgins
I have just got this working. Bascially, Apache runs your gambas server page
as a CGI script, so drop it in your cgi-bin folder (with a properly
configured server of course), give it execute permission and it should work.

To call in firefox the page generated, give it the url to the script. Your
apache may require it to have a .cgi extension for it to work.

Use the example on gambasdoc to test it.

 Hi everyone!!!

Please. I'm not understand yet of work the gambas server page.
 How begin?
 How install?
 Work with apache webserver?
How call in my browser (firefox) the page generated by gambasserverwebpage?

 Any samples are welcome!

[Gambas-user] calling gambas server page from html form (post)

2009-05-02 Thread Joshua Higgins
I've been experimenting with Gambas server pages and I must say, its
brilliant.

At the moment I'm trying to get data entered on a form on a web page to be
written to a file on the server. I have got as far as making the html page
with a form. Here is an excerpt:

 form action=myscript.gbw method=post enctype=text/plain
 pYour Name: input type=text name=your_name //p

What I'm wondering is how to access the your_name variable in the gambas
script that this form has under action. I can't figure it out.

Thanks.

Could you not replace the sudo command with gksu (or kdesu)? That command is
the same as sudo but asks in X for the password, not on the console.

2009/4/27 jbskaggs jbska...@skaggsworld.com

I am having a sudo (permission) problem in my gamemaker program. It
 creates
the code and writes it to the MMain.Module and creates the .Project file.

Now I need to be able to shell from my program to a directory and run the
 gbc2 and gba2 commands.

I have tried several different shell commands and I have tried a script:

 cd mypathtoproject
 gbc2
 gba2

but I get a permission not granted error. I have tired calling the script
 from shell with sudo

 Shell sudo scriptname.sh

but it asks for password then hangs.

This is really simple but I am somehow bungling it as usual.

So could someone one correct my script and to tell me how to call it?

[Gambas-user] catching errors

2009-04-09 Thread Joshua Higgins
Hi,
I've been using CATCH as a sort of rudimentary catch all error handling in
my code. Just got a small question about when Gambas will run this code:

Example code follows

PUBLIC SUB ihaserror()
' the error happens in here
CATCH
PRINT OH NO!
END

PUBLIC SUB Main()
ihaserror()
CATCH
PRINT ERROR
END

In this silly example, if the error happens in ihaserror(), the catch there
will print oh no. But because it was called from Main(), will the catch
there fire too so both oh no and error get printed?

required for Gambas to pass on an actual quote symbol to the echo command)

[Gambas-user] is it possible? make gambas project a library

2009-02-09 Thread Joshua Higgins
Hello again,

Over on the edubuntu-devel mailing list, I've been discussing a possible
Gambas solution to storing and sharing data across a network (using UDP) for
a range of applications, specifically TuxMath. I have an implementation of
this working on my system, but for a different set of applications also
written in Gambas.

What I'm wondering is this: is it possible to create a gambas project into a
library suitable for use in other programming languages? So for example my
gambas UDP routines can be used from another program language?

Thanks.

[Gambas-user] strange problem using UDP server clients

2009-01-30 Thread Joshua Higgins
hello all,

at the moment in my program I have multiple commands that have to be run
through SHELL in order, one after another. currently im doing this using
WAIT, but this stops the execution of my gambas program till the command is
finished. however my program is also doing other tasks (timers etc) which
also stop.

is there any way to wait for a command launched through SHELL to finish
without using WAIT, but so that it still continue executing my gambas
program?

thanks.

You must use a process handle (if I well remember, hProc = SHELL ...,
 without using WAIT).
Then, you can poll hProc properties.
See the docs about SHELL. More infos if you need them.

[Gambas-user] high cpu usage with UDP server/client

2009-01-17 Thread Joshua Higgins
Hello,

I'm looking at the UDP Server/Client example, and when the server is
running, the program uses 13% CPU constantly, shown by htop. Firefox on my
system uses 4.5% average when browsing. Is this relatively high CPU usage
normal for the UDP server example?

Okay, I've got a bash script which you hand a .desktop file and it searches
and returns the path of the icon (i'll post if anyone else is interested).

but... not all the icons are the same size. Is there a way (without manually
resizing them) to have a consistent icon size in a ListView?

Gambas internally uses its own algorithm to get desktop icons from theme,
because it needs to get the current icon theme first, which depends on the

But the real algorithm you must follow is described by a freedesktop

[Gambas-user] using icons from system theme without specifiying full path

2008-11-30 Thread Joshua Higgins
Hi,

I need to use the icons in my gambas program from the current system theme
in GTK/Gnome. At the moment I've been specifying the full path e.g.

/usr/share/icons/Tango/32x32/apps/gnome-keyring-manager.png

But ideally I need to just set gnome-keyring-manager as the image and it
picks up the right icon. Any way to do this?

Thanks.

Why not copy/paste the icon into your project folder rather than using

[Gambas-user] strange process print error

2008-10-20 Thread Joshua Higgins
Hello,

I'm getting a very strange error in my program. here is an excerpt:

 START CODE

PUBLIC SUB Button1_Click()
fluidsynthproc = SHELL fluidsynth -a jack FOR INPUT OUTPUT
END

PUBLIC SUB Button2_Click()
PRINT #fluidsynthproc, TextBox1.Text
END

 END CODE

This looks okay. But for some reason I cannot print the lowercase letter p
to the fluidsynthproc. Any reason / workaround for this?

 2) The new DesktopWatcher class allows to watch the following things:

 - Virtual desktop name change.
 - Number of virtual desktops change.
 - Desktop width/height change.
 - Window more/resize change.
 - Window name (title) change.

Not everything is finished and engraved in the marble, but all these

 desktops.

The only thing that is missing is something to make a system tray.

With that last thing, you will be able to make a full desktop environment

complex, so at the moment using an already existing and reliable one is a
 better solution.

 Enjoy it!

I'm not familiar with the way window managers and X work, but as Beniot said
the only way I know how to find out the WM_CLASS of a window is using xprop.

I have found out though whilst trying to get the Xfce Panel embedded is that
the WM_CLASS is no more unique than the name. The two Xfce panels have the
same name, the same class and the same role, so I can't really see how any
of these are more accurate, unless of course your window has no title.

As far as I can tell what you wrote should work, I'll have a go when I get
back to my Linux box :)

Can someone give me a sample line?

 Desktop.Find(,APPCLASS) ' Will this work???

A X11 window can be found from its name (the title), its class and its
  role,
  by using the Desktop.Find() method.

Use the 'xprop' program to find all properties associated with a window,
  and
look at the WM_NAME, WM_CLASS and WM_WINDOW_ROLE properties

Re: [Gambas-user] load contents of a TreeView from a file

2008-08-17 Thread Joshua Higgins
Thank you very much for the reply.

I have got as far as the FOR EACH section, and I have done
sItem = Split(sLine, ) to get another array called sItem with the 3 bits
of information I need to add to the TreeView. The problem I'm having is
identifying each part of the array. If I shell echo sItem[0] or [1] or
[2] I get the right bit of information out on the terminal, but I also get
an Out of Bounds error.

  Hello.

I'm just starting out with gambas and need some help. I have a file
  formatted as follows:

  itemkey [SPACE] itemname [SPACE] path/to/icon
  itemkey1 [SPACE] itemname [SPACE] path/to/iconetc...etc...

I need to load this data from a file into a treeview. I figure that I
 need
to load the file and for each line split it up into the 3 parts and add
 an
item to the treeview, then do the same for the next line, and the next
 etc.
I'm completely lost on where to start. The LINE INPUT page on the wiki
 only
inputs the first line. Any suggestions?

An example from the online help:

hFile = OPEN /etc/hosts FOR INPUT

WHILE NOT Eof(hFile)
  LINE INPUT #hFile, sOneLine
  PRINT sOneLine
WEND

CLOSE #hFile

You open the file, then input one line at a time. This is the classic way.
Don't forget to close the file (see later).

Another method is to load the entire file into a string, with:

sString = file.load(/etc/hosts)

then you must split this long string into a string[] using something like:

sLines = Split(sString, \n)

At this point you have a string[] array you can traverse with for each:

for each sLine in sLines
   ...
   ...
next

Every single line, obtained by either the two methods, must be again
splitted in tokes and loaded in the TreeView.

About execute command then exit, I had no problems in doing this:

shell cd /usr/local/bin; xterm

This launches the terminal emulator xterm in background. If you exit
the application, the xterm stays there.
It is true that open files, environment, signals and other thing may be
inherited by the child process, but I think this can be solved by the
ampersand in the end of the SHELL command.

If you need more help, ask again.

 Salutations,
 Doriano Blengino.
