Fabien Thank you for that. Gambas 3 used to compile on Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) using the list of dependencies for 9.10 (Karmic) in the Gambas installation pages. Re: [Gambas-user] Currency and addition/subtraction
Hi, I guess the simple answer is: fTotal += Val(tblView[row, column].text) However, you will eventually run into rounding errors. there was quite a lengthy thread not long ago about this. The conclusion (if such a thing can be reached on a forum :-)) was that currency should be worked on as integers and decimal points added at display time. The problem is compounded by barmy tax authorities on the continent who demand calculations to four decimals. At the time, I wrote the following simply as a test. As with most of my programming, it is unlikely to be the most efficient method. PUBLIC SUB btnRun_Click() DIM iInt AS Integer DIM j AS Integer IF InStr(txtInput.text, .) = 0 THEN 'no decimal entered ie assume in cents TRY iInt = Val(txtInput.text) IF ERROR THEN PRINT trapped 'do someting if it is not a number ENDIF ELSE iInt = Val(txtInput.text) * 10 ^ Val(txtDecPlaces.text) + 0.5 'multiply out ENDIF txtInteger.text = Str(iInt) 'display integer representation IF Len(txtInteger.text) Val(txtDecPlaces.text) THEN 'if the integer equivalent is long enough to accomodate the required dec places lblOutput.text = Str(Left(txtInteger.text, Len(txtInteger.text) - Val(txtDecPlaces.text))) . Str(Right(txtInteger.text, Val(txtDecPlaces.text))) ELSE 'pad out with leading zeroes lblOutput.text = Str(txtInteger.text) FOR j = Len(txtInteger.text) TO Val(txtDecPlaces.text) - 1 lblOutput.text = 0 lblOutput.Text NEXT lblOutput.text = 0. lblOutput.text ENDIF END rgds -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/Currency-and-addition-subtraction-tp27872220p27874102.html Sent from the gambas-user mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Download Intel#174; Parallel Studio Eval Try the new software tools for yourself. Re: [Gambas-user] set of questions
Doriano While you are busy dumping on yourself, let me join in: you are wrong. 1) You are wrong that you do not have a good command of the English language. I have often marvelled (in that vaguely condescending British sort of a way :)) how good your (in particular) and every contributors (in general) English is. You write better English than half of Britain. This does not say much but is intended as a compliment. 2) You are wrong that you do not know anything about Gambas. Less skilled users, like myself, learn a lot from your contributions and your obvious knowledge of Linux. There are complaints that some posts 'have nothing do do with Gambas'. I do not accept that and suggest that most of the posts relate to the interface between Gambas and Linux. I am sure the problem here is that too many questions were asked in a single post. I am also sure that Ron's response is a bite without venom. The boss is an amazing chap: he writes and maintains Gambas, holds down a job and is, I believe, a Thespian of repute. The help says _data is called when the tableview 'needs data'. At what point in the code does it need this data? Hi, It really helps to know your Gambas version and Linux distribution version. Do you mean install or use? To use gb.net: Go into your project then Project, properties, components and click on gb.net. Check this first. If gb.net is not an option in the list then you will have to install it for your Gambas version and distribution. To install on Gambas 2.8 on Ubuntu 9.04: Go into Synaptic and click on gambas2-gb-net. Re: [Gambas-user] sqlite integer to text string problem
Hi, SQLite is a bit unusual. As the FAQ at www.sqlite.org says, the field type is is one of expectation rather than definition (with the exception of an integer primary key). This is demonstrated in your example where you have put real numbers (0.64) into an integer field. SQLite doesn't care: it treats everything as a string anyway. I suspect you will get the correct value within Gambas with val(res!sclose) where res is the result of the connection.exec rgds -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/sqlite-integer-to-text-string-problem-tp23424393p23441371.html Sent from the gambas-user mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- The NEW KODAK i700 Series Scanners deliver under ANY circumstances! Re: [Gambas-user] We should offer online Gambas courses!
Hi all, As one of the great unwashed (i.e. less proficient) Gambas users, I must say that I prefer Richards approach using annotated code examples at a simple level. I don't really feel comfortable with the idea of a paid-for tutorial system and feel that 'we' as a user base should freely contribute to the project. There is no chance of us ever equaling the stupendous contribution of Benoit and to consider charging for any contribution that we make is, I feel, not in the spirit of Gambas. I wrote a small intro tutorial to Gambas which features quite well on a Google search. I put it on a Wordpress blog so that I could get some stats. It is currently viewed about 300 times a month. Benoit has also kindly used a program of mine as a Gambas example. The examples in Gambas could be extended with a beginners section although I could see this ending up as being yet more work for Benoit. rgds -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/We-should-offer-online-Gambas-courses%21-tp22792079p22799956.html Sent from the gambas-user mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- ___ Gambas-user mailing list Gambas-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gambas-user

Re: [Gambas-user] Ask About POS Programming using Gambas
Hi, I guess it is because you are printing to a raw device (/dev/lp0) which has no buffering. Two paths for you to follow: Install (and probably modify) a printer driver such as 'generic' through CUPS. This will introduce a buffer to the printing process. or Use a (very) un-subtle workaround: trap the error. Loop on a 0.5 sec (or whatever) delay and try again. I call it the Stalinist approach. Its a bit like getting people to continually vote on a constitution until they get the right answer. rgds -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Ask-About-POS-Programming-using-Gambas-tp21345920p21346777.html Sent from the gambas-user mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. [Gambas-user] OOP and TextBox
Hello, I need more control of cell entry than can be provided by tableview. I have laboriously placed textboxes over (and under) gridview cells in much the same way I imagine that tableview itself is constructed. It works. Not knowing much about OOP it strikes me that there must be an easier solution. Can I create say forty textboxes programmatically and then move from one to the other also under program control? I suppose what I am looking for is textbox[] :-D. If that were possible then the following could be reduced to one sub. ' Gambas class file PUBLIC SUB txt1_KeyPress() IF Key.code = Key.right THEN {dosomething with the entry then} txt2.SetFocus ENDIF END PUBLIC SUB txt2_KeyPress() IF Key.code = Key.right THEN {dosomething with the entry then} txt3.SetFocus ENDIF END PUBLIC SUB txt3_KeyPress() IF Key.code = Key.right THEN {dosomething with the entry then} txt4.SetFocus ENDIF END PUBLIC SUB txt4_KeyPress() IF Key.code = Key.right THEN {dosomething with the entry then} txt1.SetFocus ENDIF END -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/OOP-and-TextBox-tp20618177p20618177.html Sent from the gambas-user mailing list archive at Nabble.com. - This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100url=/ ___ Gambas-user mailing list Gambas-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gambas-user

Re: [Gambas-user] How to write to a file??
Hi Brittany, You have 2 options: write to a simple text file or write to a database. Writing to a text file is simple. '- ' Gambas class file PUBLIC hFile AS File PUBLIC SUB form_Activate() 'create the file if it does not exist, otherwise just open it IF Exist(Application.path /file.txt) THEN hFile = OPEN Application.path /file.txt FOR WRITE APPEND ELSE hFile = OPEN Application.path /file.txt FOR WRITE CREATE ENDIF TextBox1.SetFocus END PUBLIC SUB btnExit_Click() hFile.Close FMain.Close END PUBLIC SUB btnWrite_Click() 'write the 2 textboxes to the File PRINT #hFile, TextBox1.text , TextBox2.text 'clear the textboxes and put the cursor back in the first TextBox1.text = TextBox2.text = TextBox1.SetFocus END '-- You can check the file (file.txt) by loading it in any text processor. Because of the 'application.path', you will find it in the same directory as your program. Writing to a database is more flexible and a little more difficult. You can create a simple SQLite database from Gambas though it is probably easier using a very adequate add-on to Firefox (click Tools,add-ons and search sqlite).
