I wanted to learn chess with a computer game, but their really isn't a
program catered for the beginner. Even KChess, which claims to be for
beginners, it doesn't teach chess, only can give hints. I know the moves,
but I don't know any tactics. The sighted community has an excellent game
called Chessmaster, which is totally inaccessible. It teaches the moves,
tactics, strategies, nearly everything. I have heard that you can get
Talking Chess Computers which teach chess, but does anyone know of an
accessible model? My friend bought one from America, but can't use it
because even though it speaks it doesn't speak the computers moves, just
lights them up on the display.
Someone asked about online chess, I think Winboard for JFW allows a person
to play online.

well, you have to drive really slowly, carefully and accurately to get to 
the bridge. And there is really little space to maneuver there. *smile*
It takes a bit of time and practice. And if the bridge gets destroyed, your 
mission is also lost because it was the only way to the next one. So believe 
me, if there is an enemy hiding somewhere in the woods who surprises you all 
of a sudden when you're trying to drive across the bridge, it can be a real 
pain, especially on the higher difficulties. :-))

A thing I always struggle with with Tank Commander, is the city. It always
takes me ages to find the gate out, I know the help says between two streets
(can't remember their names, Saint Ann and something else, I think), but no
matter how carefully I try and be where the help file says, I always have
city walls in front of me (pity you can't blast residential structures and
city walls out of the way). Another interesting aspect of the game,
particularly on harder levels, are the bunkers on level 3. It's really a fun
game, just a pity their are only six missions, it would be great if, like
Loan Wolf, you could create your own missions.

Because I thought of him as a beginner and remembered my own problems when I 
first learned to drive the tank in that part. I was approaching the bridge 
from a completely inept direction, was not able to turn properly, etc, etc, 
etc. ONce I even ran into the river by accident. :-D
Of course that now when I am familiar with the game already, I do use 
completely different techniques and approaches and run at full speed almost 
all the time. :-)

I try to do a sniper type thing when I can.
The rain obscurs this a bit on my scanners but I try to get them 
before they get me.

reentering the bridge I accidentally drove through it oops!
So am about to try again.  This time I will try not to get turned around.  I

[Audyssey] directionally challenged

I made it to the north road and am now lost.  I tired going north then east but 
somehow keep running into tuff.  I do not see the gate but tanks keep finding 
me while I'm busy trying to figure what the heck tok do.

wow, I am missing some major stuff then. I will have to check that out from 
the library of congress and read some of them. Can you e-mail me off list 
and let me know which ones should go in which order, that you think they 
should be read? Because I don't want to read a book and find out something 
in a book further in the series when there was a whole book that explains 
what the book just glances over. In other words I want to read them in 
complete chronological order.

[Audyssey] Rail Racer update

  Hi all,
  I just wanted to keep everyone up to date on the status of Rail Racer, my 
racing simulation for the accessible gaming community.
  We are entering the final stages of the alpha, and I hope to be releasing 
the beta soon for purchase to the general public.
  Since my last update to the list, a lot of progress has been made.
  Besides general improvements to the overall game play and audio 
environment, the game now includes the ability to choose from a variety of 
tracks, and earn money from race victories that can be spent on nitro packs 
which allow a dramatic temporary boost in speed.
  Also, a web posting system has been integrated, which allows you to see 
how you compare to the other racers out there, both in track times as well 
as money earned from winning races.  Lots of potential here for some serious 
smack talking.
the track editor has been finished, which will allow players to create and 
race their own tracks, and I will be hosting a competition upon release of 
the beta that will pay out cash money to the best tracks you guys can come 
up with.  The winners of the competition will also have their tracks 
included in the final release of the game.
  Currently, I have several tracks ready to race, including reproductions of 
Michigan International Speedway, Watkins Glen, Daytona, and others that are 
brand new creations, such as a slalom course. Many more tracks will be 
included in the beta and final releases. One main difference with these 
tracks over the real versions is you will have to deal with jumps and loops 
in addition to efficiently maneuvering the track.
  The next stage of development will include the ability to purchase more 
advanced vehicles for racing against superior competition, which will in 
turn allow one to earn more money for races.
  As you earn more money, you will unlock higher level tracks, so there will 
always be an incentive to drive as fast as possible for that good old green 
and bragging rights.
  The alpha testing team has just received this update, and depending on how 
testing goes, I should be releasing the beta in the near future.  I don't 
want to give any specific dates, as odd things can happen in development and 
I don't want to dissapoint folks, but so far things are progressing 
smoothly.
  I would like to thank the alpha team for a great job done so far, and I 
invite them all to post their thoughts about the game on list here if they 
wish.  If I am not mistaken, I think all the alpha team members are 
subscribed to the list.
  I have updated the website with more game info, and you can check that out 
at the link below.
  If you have any questions, feel free to send them on, as I am always 
looking for thoughts on how to make the game better.
  The slogan of Blind Adrenaline Simulations is Games from one of us, for 
all of us and I mean that completely.
  I feel the best way to make a great and unique game is to include your 
suggestions, so bring it on.
  I will be uploading a new audio demo of the game in the next few days, and 
I will update the list when it is ready.

as long as you have some oval, tri-oval, and circle tracks to race on, that 
is fine for me. Just make sure there are lots of round tracks to race on for

Hi.
The rain is a nice friend. The enemies don't engage unless you are close 
up, and usually you can move in quick, hit them, and spin out after you 
released your weapons. I have had good success rates in level 1 and kill 
rates using the rain as cover.

[Audyssey] VOICE SAMPLES

available.  Since I've never done thisbefore, I didn't know what to sample so I 
tried a few different moods.

Hi.
Somewhwere I have a list from some rpg books that explains at what 
levels of rank you have to be before you can obtain and use duel sabers. 
The Darths, which belong to the Sith order, are not the only dark Jedi 
that cary them.
Just in case people are wondering where I am coming from I am now 
entering the RPG Star Wars relm of gaming which has some slight 
modifications over the books and movies which has been designed for 
multiplayer gaming.

Yeah. Anyone who hasn't played Mysteries of the Sith is missing a cool 
game. I especially liked level 11 or 12.
You are playing Mara Jade who has just recently turned from the dark 
side, has become a new Jedi Knight, and in level 11 or 12 you land on 
this planet that is a giant swamp. You find this pit, and when you force 
jump in to it you swim across this stream to a hidden door. When you 
open it there is an underground temple which you have to enter to 
continue through the level.
When you enter the temple out steps a dark side clone of Mara Jade which 
you must fight. That was always one of the coolest battles in the game. 
The dark side Mara is, well, down right mean.
She tries every nasty stunt in the book from  force blinding, throwing 
green lightning at you, and a few other dark side tricks. The only way 
to beat the other Mara was to back out of the temple and fight her in 
the stream. If you stayed in the temple in close quarters she cleaned 
your clock for you.
I guess what I liked about that mission was actually facing a double of 
yourself. That means you have equal powers, strengths, weaknesses, and 
one was fighting for the Jedi Knights, and the other was fighting for 
the Sith.

[Audyssey] GMA tank commander

Well, it was an accident really, but what I did is hit it, then reverse then 
hit it again.  After 2 to 3 hits the tank was out of commission.  I was on easy 
and on training mode.
Was just a fluke, but was wonderful bashing the heck out of it.

Hi Shaun.
Well, it is hard to do long range targeting, but in say 450 meters or so 
you should be able to take them out. The key is not using your targeting 
tones, and center the enemy tanks engine sounds in your speakers, and 
start shooting as you are baring down on him.

  Yup, full keyboard control is included, but I recommend you try the mouse 
out, as it is more fun to play the game with.
  I realize you guys have never played a game for the blind with a mouse,

Yeah. I just purchased a new optical mouse, there was something wrong 
with my old one, and now Rail Racer works great with mouse control.
I just wish the mouse had more buttons so I control the entire game from 
it. Grin.

 So do I. When I still had sight I played Jedi Knight Dark Forces II and
 Jedi Knight Mysteries of the Sith quite a bit. Although, I liked
 Mysteries of the Sith better do to a better story line and it had Mara
 Jade in it which I really liked character wize.
 Some of the levels makes Shades of Doom seam simple to navigate.
 For example, in Mysteries of the Sith, (MOS,) there were levels like 5
 where you had to find this switch or button, press it, jump in to this
 water, dive to the bottom, find an opening door, and quickly swim
 through before it closed. You had all kinds of ways in and out like
 climbing through a hole in the cealing, cut open access grates, doors
 under water, and all kinds of stuff like that. It made exploring real fun.
 There were also interesting challenges like one level you are captured,
 stripped of your weapons, and then locked in a cell. Your job was to 
 escape.
 Well, you had to use the force to get the key from the guard, unlock the
 cell, and then physically take the guard down in hand to hand combat.
 Eventually, you found your weapons, but they were guarded by a Rankor.
 Ugly things you know?
 So you ended up using the force to call say your light saber to you,
 took out the Rankor, and then faught your way like heck off that level.
 Kick butt game.

[Audyssey] sryth question

Hey all, 
I was hoping, really hoping, lol, that someone could help me in sryth.  

I am doing the murk quest.  the one, in stormgate, where you have to get rid of 
teh evil, but you have to collect the 7 shards and bring them to ethell to 
create a key.  Well, I have trouble navigating the swamp and get lost.  I have 
5 of the shards and at one point, I had all 7, but I couldn't find my way back 
to ethel. I sware It wasn't letting me, though there may have been something I 
just over looked.  I found the bridge, with the shadow monster going to the 
island, but I can't get out of there to return to ethel. I swear I have tried 
every path imaginable. lol 
Any help would b greatly appreciated before I go insane. lol smiles thank you 
much.
