I was trying to send robin the self destruct setup file as I promised. Hi Simon, First I would say that All In Play charges to play so as to recoup the money spent creating the games. Secondly it costs money to run the server to run the games. And maybe they might even turn a profit eventually. I don't know how I would set up my casino games for all of us to play since I don't know how to write on line type games. Plus they are talking strongly about closing down all of the on line off shore gambling in the United States. Guess that we all will need to meet on some cruise ship and play in person. grin BFN Jim No one has ever bet enough on a winning horse. Re: [Audyssey] playability of Playstation 2 games?
First, no PS2 game is 100% accessible. Then there is the factor of memorisation. NOthing is accessible to you if you don't know what it means (a certain sound etc.) or don't memorize the pattern in which items are displayed on the screen (game menus). Sighted assistance or very slow and uncomfortable experiments are needed at first, till you get to know the game enough to be able to play it on your own. I think the most accessible or potentially accessible games of the few PS2 ones I've ever seen are the fighting ones, especially the Mortal Kombat series. I've managed to beat my sighted opponents in Deadly Aliance with three characters when there used to be a friend of mine owning PS2. The subscription fee for AllInPlay ain't for tournaments. Its for paying employees to program the game, run the server, and get on the web. As far as tournaments go either the players get one up, sponsored by private business, and sometimes AllInPlay throws one out there for fun. Re: [Audyssey] Sryth The Age of Igtheon
Never had that happen before. All you should have to do is unequip your shield and you should be able to use your ax. I personally don't use two-handed weapons much for that very reason. I like the extra melee rating. The only two-handed weapon I use, and i haven't used it much lately, is the Wither Blade found in A Dilemma in Kirnwell. You might not be able to acess that one yet depending on whether or not you've completed Secret of Stoneback Hill. If you have, Thane Pyrond will take you on. He only has two quests, A Poaching in North Scarp and Dilemma in Kirnwell, but the latter offers both a much better EXP reward and the Wither Blade, which has a special attack that can doo close to a hundred damage to your foe. Re: [Audyssey] playability of Playstation 2 games?
I don't mean this as an argument, but I consider the games in which the menus can be memorized to be just as accessible as the ones with spoken menus. Yes, I am not disagreeing a few PS2 games are playable, but most are inaccessible and have serious accessibility issues. For example, the menus are not accessible, and only are if you have them memorised. It's not like our accessible games where the menu item or prompt is spoken. Most PS2 games have several different sound effects which give us vital hints and clues as to what has happened or is going on, but that is only good if you are aware of what that sound means in the scheme of things. Re: [Audyssey] Sryth The Age of Igtheon
Yes. There are rings that increase your melee substantially. Also, if you're using a one-handed weapon, use a shield as well. Your melee will increase. And finally, keep increasing those weaponry skills, and use weapons for whcih you have a higher skill. - Original Message - From: Ron Schamerhorn [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2006 1:33 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Sryth The Age of Igtheon My present weapon is the Knight's longsword I got from the cold winters night adventure. Re: [Audyssey] playability of Playstation 2 games?
Hi Brandon, I think to constructively discuss this matter we need to come up with a common definition for accessible and playable. One does not necessarily mean the other is true. To me personally accessible means that I can grab that PS2 game pop it in the machine, I can play it without having someone tell me what sound x means, use the menus without having to memorise them, or have to have someone teach me the menus. In other words the day I buy the game I can blay it without 0 sighted help. To me playable means it might be accessible but even if it is not 100% accessible I can memorise the menus, sounds, and so forth and one day be able to play it on my own after I memorise the game. Let's play the game of assume for a second. Let's assume we whiped out your memory of how the menus are laid out and what all the sounds mean for a given game. Ok, how are you going to access those menus. Will you fumble around relearning those menus on your own, ask a sighted person to tell you the layout, because at that very second they are usable, but not accessible since you don't have those menus memorised. In fact, one wonders how you learned them in the first place. You can't tell me you baught your PS2 and the first day automaticly without training knew every single menu by memory. You had to have some trial and error, and perhaps some outside help to learn them. Re: [Audyssey] playability of Playstation 2 games?
Exactly. The ones I would consider playable but not accessible are games like Lifeline. One can play them completely without needing to know directions to walk around the complex, as you control the game with your voice. However, one would have to know what items were in every room and where they were, as well as the special ways to fight certain monsters, in order for the game to be fully accessible. Or Kingdom Hearts. We blind folk can fight, but we haven't a prayer of finding our way through the game's many worlds. - Original Message - From: Liam Erven [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Gamers Discussion list' gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2006 2:06 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] playability of Playstation 2 games? I don't mean this as an argument, but I consider the games in which the menus can be memorized to be just as accessible as the ones with spoken menus. Sure it takes a bit longer for that accessibility to happen, but that doesn't change the fact that we can pretty much play these games completely. Just my thoughts. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2006 1:54 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] playability of Playstation 2 games? Hello Brandon, Technically, there is a difference between playable and accessible. Just some thoughts. Brandon armstrong wrote: hi tom, yes ps 2 games are acessible, i have a machine and play them all the time. Brandon ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] playability of Playstation 2 games?
Yes, I see your points, Tom, and I've already given my own personal definitions of accessible and playable as well as examples. My definitions are different than yours, but I think several would have different opinions on this subject. I would like to bring up fighting games, as they are probably the games with the easiest menus except of course for games meant for the younger generation, some of which have no menus at all. Anyway, most fighting games follow a patern with their menus. The first option is almost guaranteed to bring you into the game's arcade mode, the second into the versus mode, and so on. While I can accept your memory wipe situation, I would say that as long as the portion of my memory existed that told me what type of game I was dealing with, I could jump into something like a fighting game fairly quickly. I mean to play MK Armageddon, for instance, all one needs to do is press X twice. The music changes, and you're in the character selection screen. TO me, that'd be enough. To me, that makes Mortal Kombat an accessible game, rather than just a playable one. But as I have already stated, this is simply my own opinion and set of standards. I see where you're coming from as well. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2006 3:21 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] playability of Playstation 2 games? Re: [Audyssey] Accessible online poker?
Hi Ron and all, I found it, but the company who has this Slot machine only allows customers from the US or Canada. So, well, have to continue looking. Many thanks for the tip though! Wish I could have tried it.
