Remember, too, how they made sounds in the 4j0's. Fire was not the
crackling of wood, but of cellophane. I wouldn't use these types of sounds
normally, but imagine a game set in the old west with an OTR feel--how
freeing it would be to just decide what something should sound like and come
up with weird ways to make it happen. These wouldn't be realistic of
course, but it would be kind of funny...

 Hi thom.

As I said, I was thinking mostly in terms of ambient environmental effects
here, sinse i do very much understand the danger of all games sounding the
 same.

One problem though, is while ameter main stream game developers are quite
free to draw their own graffics, ameter audio game developers can't be
 quite
as free when it comes to recording or creating sounds.

If I was the BBc radio workshop, and I wanted a fire effect in my game,
 I'd
be quite free to build a fire of the appropriate size and stick a
 sensative
 mike near it.

However, though I do have a very good mike, If I tried to build a fire I'd
get chucked out of my colidge, and probably even taken to court as well.

Obviously, for sounds it is possible to reccord, it'd be far better if
people made their own sounds, but this can't go for everything.

The only way i can see around this problem is to have as wide a variety of
generic sounds available as possible, to give people the maximum amount of
choice about what gets put into their games.

for example, if there were 10 or 20 different wind effects on offer as
opposed to just a couple, you could have ten games all with different wind
sound effects, even if they each used a combination of three or four of
 them
at a time (I know myself I'd want several effects for different
 environments).

Imho the more choice in this matter, the better, though obviously my
opinions as far as charactor sounds go are rather different.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

Hey, guys what's up? Hope your keeping warm and having fun.
Been playing Tom's STar Trek Final Conflict 1.0 and it rocks!!! I'm
starting slowly to get the hang of it.
Was wondering something though, unrelated to STFC.
I watched this movie from netflix called Word Play. It was about a national
crossword competition and people who make design or play crosswords.
Are there any blind crossword games out? Books? Internet accessable
websites?
Any that renew their puzzles regularly?
I just wanted to try it out and wondered if it's even a thing that can be
done. I'm assuming so. *grins* When I first lost my sight didn't even
know if I'd be able to use my computerman I was mistaken!
Also, does anyone know the addy formt heaudio space on the UK? I think they
have a games room. Haven't messed with that in a long time. Also, related
to this, what version of real audio works well with Jaws? I need to know to
play their games, if I remember correctly.
Anyways, take care.

I've not been keeping up at all with much on the list and for that I'm
regretful. Are there still any sales going on on the blind game sites? Did
I miss out? Oh wellshould pay more attention.
At any rate, I just finished watching a movie called Word Play about

Clinton make an appearance. What does this have to do with the list? After
seeing this documentory I figure I'd like to try it out. Are there any
accessable games or websites that the blind can play?
Also, I used to go to the audio games room from the UK does anyone have that

Thanks a ton,

Once I release my Asteroids open source clone I will likely make an

No no, that's not what I meant. I was thinking of something like the
original Final Fantasy or even later installments of the series, where the
game was still single player, but the player had control of a party of four
or even five characters. There was no online play involved. Think of it as
STFC in a fantasy setting, where the player controls four or five people,
except that you travel around the world in realtime and only the battles are
turn-based. You select what character attacks whom and how they attack,
except you can only attack once per turn.

 How is that project going?
 I have one question if you don't mind;
Is the game going to be truly 3D? (I remember you talking about that, but I
don't remember what you decided on.)

 Thanks

Re: [Audyssey] Audio Game Maker - Sneak Peek

2006-12-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Ah, that would be cool. I have no idea if Audo Game Maker could do
something that complex, but a good game engine for rpgs really could be
useful in our comunity.
