I actually still have a copy of one of the handbooks in its entirety, with
skill and spell lists, character creation, and a bunch of other things in
it. Its pretty huge, and I don't know if its still up for download, but I've
got an archive that has just about everything you'd ever need to know about
D&D for those who want/need it.

[Audyssey] a reminder from your editor

2007-06-10 Thread Michael Feir
Hello, everyone. Ron asked me to remind you all that he would appreciate any
materials such as articles or game reviews that you'd care to send him for
the next issue of Audyssey. He plans to publish it fairly soon. You may also
wish to send along your congratulations as he and Sylvia have recently
gotten married. He's been away from home for the past while but will be
returning to what passes for his new normal life this week. If you've sent
him something and haven't heard back from him, you may want to send it again
to make certain he has it. You'll all be happy to know the wedding went
absolutely splendidly and fun was had by all including yours truly.

2007-06-10 Thread MissWings
Hi Che.

That online RPG game sounds interesting. I played D&D a few years back,
but I haven't had much experience with it, so it'd be interesting to try an
online version and see how it works. I'm interested in hearing how things
proceed with it.

Hi Che,
If you go to the bottom of that page you can find a zip download of all the
parts, but if you read them all carefully you will find that you can not
play D and D totaly with them.
They leave out all the copywrited material including the techniques for
character creation
You can find the second edition books in English and Russian at
http://www.templeofsnake.narod.ru/stuff2.html
AD&D Player's Hand Book
 - phbe.rar, english,
213Kb
AD&D Dungeon Master's Guide
 - dmge.rar, english,
210Kb

You also need a tool to uncompress the rar files.

Re: [Audyssey] Looking for rules for D and D

2007-06-10 Thread Che
ah, thanks for the info there Dark.
I am contemplating creating an online RPG game for all us blind folks,
using what I have learned from the multiplayer aspects of Rail Racer.
I don't see the need to reinvent the wheel as far as character creation,
combat rules and the like go, so I am hoping to find documentation on how
the various components work.
I have some ideas that will make this a very unique and immerssive game
experience for the blind, where lots of blinks from around the world can
come together to role play their hearts out.
This is all in the outlining stages at this point, as I am spending my
coding time finishing up the final details of Rail Racer, but I am quite
serious about taking the task on.
One of the more difficult aspects I foresee is map and quest creation, so
I plan on making a map generator so folks can create areas of their own that
can be plugged into the main playable maps.
From what I have discovered with the online aspects of Rail Racer, this is
all feasible, and should work quite smoothly on my dedicated server for the
amount of players I anticipate.
Anyway, like I say it is just in the planning stages at this point, but I
will keep you all updated as the ideas and techniques for the game and
interface solidify.
  Later all,

Re: [Audyssey] Looking for rules for D and D

2007-06-10 Thread Dark
Hi Phil.

As I said In my reply to che, while the Srd is great as a resource (I've got
a lot of anticipatory pleasure checking out the spell lists for my Paladin
of freedom), I didn't find it quite as helpful on the matter of basic
character creation, or saying what the various terms such as feets, skills
etc mean.

Of course, this could just be me being dim, or looking at the wrong part,
though i do wonder, given the highly explicit disclaimer that says the Srd
doesn't publish char creation rules if these have been missed out somehow.

Certainly, when I joined the D&D game the other week, I needed a fair amount
of stuf explained that I couldn't find in the srd, - though again this
could just me being dim.

Luckily, the Gm is a very decent bloke and highly experienced, - he also
owns more rule books than is entirely reasonable, so he didn't particularly
mind pandering to my lack of information, - or brains.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] Looking for rules for D and D

2007-06-10 Thread Dark
Hi che, this is something that actually came up recentlyfor me as well,
sinse I managed to find a group of friends playing the game.

As you probably know, there's the system reference document,
http://srd.plush.org/ but that's more in the matter of a lot of lists for
archive purposes than actual rules, and when I joined the game I had to ask
the Gm to go through the character creation process with me, as I totally
lacked all the rules for it.

Unfortunately, Wizards of the coast seem to be most draconian about putting
rules online, this is a particular pest sinse back in the late 90's, they
did actually release a Cd rom with Ms word coppies of all the player's hand
books (which i bought and used to play the game a bit).

However, when third edition came out and I wrote a letter to Wizards of the
coast asking whether they'd considder producing accessible digital copies of
the rule books I was simply told "We have no plans to publish digital copies
of our books" with nothing stated about accessibility.

I do wonder though, sinse D&D is an obviously highly accessible game, if
it'd be worth us contacting wizards in a more formal, game-accessibility
related sense, -- especially as the chances of getting role play books
brailled here in the Uk is less than zero, but that's another topic.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] PB Games, Coincidence or not?

2007-06-10 Thread Quinten Pendle
Hi again all

The interview with Philip Bennefall will be broadcast tomorrow, from
17:00 to 19:00 Eastern Standard Time, or 21:00 to 23:00 GMT.
To listen, log on to www.kool360.com, and select either broadband, or
dialup, depending on your connection speed.
The interview will be repeated on Friday, 15 June, from 13:00 to 15:00
Eastern Standard Time, or from 17:00 to 19:00 GMT.
I honestly don't know what time it will be in the Pacific time zone.
I have not yet considered the option of archiving the interview, but I
might do it after Friday's show, for a limited period, in which case a
download link for the interview will be posted here.

Re: [Audyssey] Major Rail Racer announcement

2007-06-10 Thread Dark
Oh dam! Remind me to send a large and terrifying lawyer after that
anti-robot spyware company! preferably one with nasty big poity teeth!

Seriously, I am looking forward to trying the game, particularly with the
number of unnlockables and extra bonuses available, not to mention
potentially unlimited amounts of user created tracks. I'm also highly
interested to try playing the game using the mouse.

Btw, on your "screen reader instructions page" you mention wanting to know
how to turn off with screen readers other than Jaws. Here's what you do with
hal.

In Hal, it isn't necessary to quit the program to stop Hal from disturbing
your game with random chatter. simply use the "voice off" Hot key, which by
default is control zero.

If using a Laptop, and the function key set, it's probably also a good idea
to turn off all hotkeys, to stop Hal intercepting presses of F keys that
would otherwise go to the game. The default hotkey for this is control
eight.

both of these hotkeys are toggles, so simply pressing control zero or eight
again will bring back the voice or keys, however, sinse the control zero
voice on off is also a hotkey, you'll need to press controlzero before
control eight, and likewise turn the hotkeys on with control eight before
turning on the voice with control zero.

Both of these keys do not effect the current position of the focus or
anything else going on in windows, and so can be done at any time, either
before pressing enter on the shortcut for the game, or when the game has
already started.

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] popomundo forums

2007-06-10 Thread Earle
You have to be in the game, for over 3 days before you can post to other
forums. I've also noticed, that I
can't post a new topic, if I just hit enter on the forums link, then enter on
new topic. For some reason, I
have to go into the community link, then to forums, then go to new topic. I
don't know why, I can't do it
directly from the forums link.

Hi all,

Has anyone been able to successfully creat new topics in each forum
they're a member of? I've tried to post on my city forum with no luck. I
click on the link, all the messages come up. Great. I could read them.
What about writing them? What do you do? Click on new topic? When I do
that, it just brings me back to the messages screen without giving me
any forms for subject, message, etc. Anyone know why? I figured that'd
be the right place to click.

Thanks.
