Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge beta 2 released!

2007-10-06 Thread Dark
Hi Tom.

I'm glad the installation of Monti will work independently of where I put
it.

about the extra mood or drum sfx, well it's only a miner point, but imho
it'd give some nice progression to the game, and more of a feeling that your
getting further and further into the temple on later levels. The different
atmospheres of various environments is another thing that I particularly
enjoy in exploration style games, which is why imho it'd be good in Monti.

Beware the Grue!

 Hi Dark,

 Quote
Btw, I have a question, are you planning to have the background mood sfx
 or
 drum change in later levels?
 End quote

That is something I certainly can do in the next release if you would
like. It is a rather easy update to include into the game.

 Cheers.

Hi Michael,
Yes, it does. There are alternative key strokes for laptops such as j
and l keys to walk/run/jump. it's all documented in the games keyboard
help and in the manual.

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge beta 2 released!

2007-10-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
Well, for testing purposes alone the game has to be run from anywhere as
i most of the time run the game out of a testing directory. I rarely get
to play the same or current version everyone else has even though I have
it installed.
As for atmospherics etc I will look into it though for the next few
weeks I plan to get into mainly just finishing the levels, get the
product key registration system in, and get it ready for release now
that the engine is pretty much stable.
The way I see it anything I missed, extra features fluff, atmospherics,
can be added on in future upgrades, patches, etc after the game is released.

2007-10-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Michael,
No problem. Just remember looking at the manual first though is the main
resource for getting these answers right away though. I've worked hhard
on making the latest manual pretty much explain just about any question,
and give every user the need to know nuts and bolts before playing.
Now, that the manual is in html it is easier than ever to search since
you can use the h key to jump to sections and subsections. Once I turn
the table of contents into links you can have it take you directly to a
section of interest.

Re: [Audyssey] problem with Montezuma's Revenge

2007-10-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Greg,
Ok, I'm not sure exactly what is going on so I will list some questions
below with things you can try just in case one or both of us is missing
something obvious.

1. Is your screen reader unloaded?
Unloading a screen reader while playing will prevent any possible
keyboard conflicts as well as increase over all game execution.
2. Have you atempted to use the alternative arrow keys j, k, l, and i?
While primarily for laptop users it might be a good idea to see if the
problem is related to just the normal arrows or universal.
3. Is Sapi 5 or equal TTS Engine talking when the menu pops up?
Many problems with Montezuma's Revenge come down to busted Sapi 5
installs under XP. The easiest way to know is if Sapi doesn't speak.

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge beta 2 released!

2007-10-06 Thread Davy Kager
Okay, a few things about Monty:
1. Is it true that jumping can still cause deaths if there're no other
enemies besides skulls?
2. What annoys me a little about Monty is that the keyboard cooperative
level is such, that the program does also respond when it doesn't have the
focus. I hope you know what I mean, since I don't know if managed code uses
the same words for it.
3. The manual is a bit messed up at section 9 (sorry, I haven't got the time
to find the exact place).
That's it for my bug-report thingy. smiles
Cheers!

[Audyssey] Rail Racer official track I can't find

2007-10-06 Thread Dean Wilcox
Hi,
I found that Rail Racer crashes when I go into multi player mode and
move my cursor onto a track when the track being played is not in my
tracks folder. I downloaded the official tracks I didn't have last
night but its happening now and I don't have the track headake which
I think is the only one I don't have. The track is on the score
board page but its not in my game or the official tracks page, I'm
running the updated 1.4. I've used the patches since installing
version 1.0, are certain tracks only included in the full download of
the latest release or can I find them anywhere else?

Thanks

2007-10-06 Thread Darren Harris
Hi thomas,

I've instaled direct x. the net 3.0. I've tried to install that. It
gives me an option to uninstall or repair. So I'm assuming I've already
got that part of it. Would that assumption be correct?

Hi Darren,
If you have never installed a USA Games product before you have to do a
couple of XP upgrades before my games will work.
1. Go to the USA Games requirements page and download the latest DirectX

and .Net runtime installations.
2. First, install the .Net Framework. This is very important as both my
games and DirectX need this to properly get installed.
3. Install DirectX Auggust 2007 which will upgrade your DirectX com and
.Net libraries to the very latest stable release.
4. Install Montezuma's Revenge and or any other USA Games product. For
more information about installation the Montezuma's manual located
on the downloads page has a good step by step walkthrough of the
installation.
Cheers.

Hi,

 1. Is it true that jumping can still cause deaths if there're no other
 enemies besides skulls?

End quote

No, not that I am aware of. Obviously if you land on a drop off, in a
fire pit, or lava pit you will die. However, if you are just jumping
around that won't kill you unless you directly land on a trap or monster.

Quote
 2. What annoys me a little about Monty is that the keyboard cooperative
level is such, that the program does also respond when it doesn't have the
 focus.
End quote

Yeah, I know what you mean. The reason for that is the keyboard is set
to the background cooperative level. When I set it to foreground the
game crashes. So at some point I'll have to work on solving that
particular bug, but I am aware of the issue, and hope to fix this
sometime before the final release. Not just sure when it will happen yet
though.

 3. The manual is a bit messed up at section 9 (sorry, I haven't got the time
 to find the exact place).

I've looked at the manual, and have read and reread section 9. I can't
find anything wrong. You'll have to explain what you mean further when
you do have the time.
Thanks.

Subject: [Audyssey] Deep space Attack

 Games we'd like to play...

The title for the Marine game is: Deep space Attack
The Storyline is: In the deep realms of space, an evil so powerful has
just awoken. The evil is powerful enough to destroy the hole galaxy..
who is going to do this? As he walks to the main office, John the Space
Marine and the chief go up to the office.
The chief sits down and says,
 The Set Covering Deployment
Problem could be an invaluable aid in
   positioning your Space Marine units.
John smiles and replies, Yes, the Set covering deployment seeks an
 optimal
stationing of Marine troops in a set of space regions so that a relatively
small number of Marine troop units can control a large space region.
 The Chief continues,
The Set covering deployment can be mathematically formulated as a
(0,1)-integer programming problem. Integer programming is a special case
 of
linear programming, which refers to optimizing an outcome based on some
 set
of constraints using a linear mathematical model, and (0,1)-integer
programming means that all variables are required to be integers equal to
either 0 or 1--in other words, the variables are binary.

To formulate your Powerful Evil domination problem, consider the 8
provinces of the Powerful Evil Empire illustrated on this chart. Each
region is represented as a white disk, and the red lines indicate region
connections. Call a region secured if one or more field Marines are
stationed in that region, and call a region securable if a field Marine
 can
be deployed to that area from an adjacent area. In addition, assume that a
field Marine can only be deployed to an adjacent region if at least one
Marine remains in the original region to provide logistical support. Also
assume that each region contains at most two Marines , as the number of
available Marines are limited and cannot be concentrated in any one
 region.
This problem can then be mathematically formulated by representing the
Powerful Evil area as a graph.
We can then associate two binary variables and with each vertex (i.e.,
each province) in the vertex set of the Powerful Evil Empire graph
 which
specify whether a first and second field Marine (respectively) is located
 at a given vertex .
In the terminology of graph theory, the Powerful Evil Empire graph is a
simple connected graph on eight vertices and with 13 edges.
In set covering deployment, the problem to be solved is to maximize the
 quantity subject to the constraints

which guarantees that the first Marine is stationed at a given vertex
 before a second can be,

which guarantees that if does not contain a field Marine , it has a
neighbor with two field Marines, and

which enforces the integer constraint (i.e., when combined with the first
constraint, only zero, one, or two field Marines may be placed in any
 given
region). This integer programming problem can then be translated into
 matrix
terms and solved using standard techniques to find the minimum number of
field Marines needed to secure the Powerful Evil Empire.
John shakes his head in amazement.
the Chief continues
In the case of Marine officers in Space, to first approximation (ignoring
local topography such as planets, stars etc.) we can assume that each
officer covers a circular region (i.e., a disk) whose size is
 proportional
to the distance that officer can see (or travel). Taking the search region
as a square set of space sectors (shown in gray below), the following
visualization shows a configuration of randomly distributed Marines
 officers
with random coverage radii, giving an arrangement that covers only 50% of
 the search region.

Obviously, the larger the size of the Marines force and the larger the
coverage radii of individual Marines units, the higher the fraction of
 area
that can be covered. However, optimal placement gives the best coverage
possible for a fixed set of Marines units. In the case above, it turns out
to be possible to arrange the six disks so that they have no overlap, so
 the
maximum coverage is given by , i.e., the sum of the disk areas, each of
which is given by times the radius squared, where radii are measured in
units of the edge length of the square.
In general, achieving optimal coverage requires minimizing disk overlap,
 as
well as minimizing the amount by which disks extend outside the area of
surveillance. As you can see below, an optimal solution is not necessarily
unique; in this case, there are several separate disk

 Hi Greg,
Ok, I'm not sure exactly what is going on so I will list some questions
below with things you can try just in case one or both of us is missing
 something obvious.

Re: [Audyssey] problem with Montezuma's Revenge

2007-10-06 Thread Dean Wilcox
Hi,
First with Jaws loaded you need to load up the game. Once the main
menu has loaded press Jaws key and F2 to get to Jaws manager and then
go down one to configuration manager and press entre. You want to
leave the name as it is so press save. Now in the user options menu
you want to find advanced options and press enter, where you will
find that the first check box you're on is enable sleep mode or
something similar. Check this box and click ok. Now exit and choose
yes to save and you should be in business.

Sorry if that's sounds a bit long winded, hope it helps anyway

Hi Dean.

the good news is Thomas has created a full new version, beta t2 of the game,
rather than a patch. The bad news is, you need to completely uninstall the
old beta 1 version (assuming you installed it in the first place), and then
install the latest direct X and net framework 3.0, then install Beta 2.

It is most deffinately worth it though imho!

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] ACE Games LOTGD (Legend of the Green Dragon) Admins?

2007-10-06 Thread Dark
Hi triston.

I have a question about the ace games logd server.

Logd was the first online rpg game I played, over on the original Logd
server at http://pqcomp.com/logd/

I'd get up to about 3-6 Dks' and then stop playing.

Each year, I'd get a longing to play logd again, head back for 3-6's Dk's,
and check out all the new and improved features of the game.

However for the past two years i believe, there've been no improvements or
new features added to that Logd server.

so, is Ace games running a later version? the version over at Compt.com I
believe is version 1.10 dragon prime edition. of the game, is ace games
running a later one?

If it is, I might well give the game a try, though I'm afraid I'd have to
see how dedicated I'd become to the game before deciding whether or not to
become a mod.

Beware the Grue! (a lot worse than the green dragon!).

Dark.

Round 1 will be run on Rolling Thunder, and ends on Tuesday at midnight

Re: [Audyssey] problem with Montezuma's Revenge

2007-10-06 Thread Karl
Hi,
I've found a problem which still apparently hasn't been fixed. If you
are carrying at least one sword, you can stand in one spot, and the
skull will roll right past, not attacking you, but not being destroyed
either. Also, is there supposed to be anything different in how the
bonus level works? It appears to work just like a normal level.

Hi Che,
This is my first tournament, and I am not sure how to get logged into
it. I've signed up earlier for it, but I am not sure how to find my
match partner, and get the game started.
Do I go to existing game or create a new game?

[Audyssey] Problem with FS Navigator

2007-10-06 Thread Orin
Hi all,

Just wondering, I installed FSNavigator along with the FSUIPC module, not sure
where everything else is supposed to go like the TraphicLook.exe and
weather.txt and all these files, but it seems as though I can't get FSNav
started. When I press F9, nothing seems to happen. No windows come up, it
staies the same as it had before with just the sim window opened...

My apologies, I thought I had updated the main tournament page with the
instructions, but I had not.
The instructions are there now at:
http://www.blindadrenaline.com/railracer/tournaments.html
If you have any further questions, post them to the message board of the
tournament you are registered for and we will be glad to help you out.
  Happy racing,

[Audyssey] Monty impressions so far

2007-10-06 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Well, I played Monty for a bit and got a score of 258000 or there about
on the insane difficulty. I really like it a lot. The only weird thing I
noticed so far is how if you press the alt-arrow keys for jumping, the
system menu of the program comes up. Not sure if this has to do with the
keyboard handling that Tom already mentioned he would work on, but other
than that things are proceeding nicely on this Vista machine.

Great work Tom.
