[Audyssey] realistis baseball game - Re: l-works baseball
If someone were to come up with one, there would have to be a whole slew of variables. The ability to play offense or defense depending on which half inning is being played, which of the 9 field positions you would play, what happens when you control the action, the flight of the ball when how much force and in which direction is applied, how quickly and in which direction you run and when, when a steal and from which base or bases it is attempted, sheesh. I personally would not want this to be a game in which you dictate what will happen and then watch when you start the game after all choices have been made as in STFC or Trek 2000, but would prefer to be using my reaction and ears to determine what to do and when. In short, I think a realistic baseball game that would meet my needs would be a major undertaking! --- Laughter is the best medicine. Re: [Audyssey] Raceway and Mysteries Of The Aztecs announcements.
I assume, although I should never do so, that the switch to JAVA will occur, but not right away? If this is the case, with all the future projects you have in mind, when in the heck will you find time to make the transition in the currently being worked on games? That question may have sounded like a complaint to some, but it was meant as something like, "wow. Let's see. I've got this, and this, and then I want to do this, that, that thing, then the other game. With all this going on, when will I find time to convert, seeing as the conversion will take quite a long time?" I hope my meaning was clear. Thanks. --- Laughter is the best medicine. [Audyssey] claudiogames logo
Claudio, A real simple solution to your audio logo need is to use an existing sound file as your company's signature sound. We use a simple gong sound for our 7-128 Software programs. It's just an unedited WAV file. There are free WAV files out on the Web, or you could buy a CD with a whole bunch of them to choose from. That way, no editing, no hassles. No idea what that sound dot whatever the heck it was functions are, but hey, awesome that you're sticking with the lang you started with. Besides I can see it being frustrating with all that research, time and energy to creating a new engine in a new language with new features etc, which could drive anyone crazy. Hi, I think that is the best desision for now, perhaps release Raceway and the next beta of MOTA, then you could convert your games, that way, people won't be frustrated that there isn't any games being released, as they will just have had 2 new games to play with. Hope that makes sence. [Audyssey] Raceway and Mysteries Of The Aztecs announcements.
Hello gamers, As many of you probably know for the past month USA Games has been doing some research into rewriting Mysteries Of The Aztecs and USA Raceway in Java rather than using Microsoft's C# .NET language. While our results were very positive initially, the conversion would have some benefits, there are also many technical issues we haven't solved yet. As a result i have personally decided that USA Games is going to temporarily drop plans to convert our games to Java, and will begin immediately to complete Mysteries Of the Aztecs and USA Raceway as planned using the .NET Framework, DirectX, etc. One reason for our decision is that in December we souled nearly 150 new copies of Mysteries Of The Aztecs for customers expecting a nearly completed product. If we were to put the time into converting the game to Java it would take several weeks, months, or possibly an entire year to get the entire game converted to Java. i honestly do not think those of you should be forced to wait that long on a game you paid for so I will attempt to complete the game using the language, tools, and sdks I started out with. Another reason is while I like Java for game programming during the course of my research many Java packages don't exactly have the same functionality as DirectX. For example, the javax.sound.sampled package is ok for processing game sounds in a Troopenum type game it doesn't have the realistic 3d audio I wanted for Raceway and my Genesis 3D engine. The java.media.j3d seams to fit the 3d audio requirements, but is quite complicated to get working in my game projects. As a result I am left frustrated, upset, and irritated with trying to get my game projects converted to Java. Finally, as a game developer I have worked with C# .NET since 2004 and have become quite familiar with the language, SDKs, etc that are used in our games. I have thousands of lines of ready to use code that will certainly help us finish the games much faster. While I am personally no longer a fan of the .NET platform I do think that it is the best and most practical solution for our games that are running behind schedule. As for Mysteries Of the Aztecs we are going to take some time, upgrade the Montezuma's Return engine, and modify it with the new changes and ideas for the new title. It will probably take two or three months to make the necessary revisions, but will be much much faster than writing the entire engine from scratch. As for USA Raceway I've simply decided that the racing engine needs to be a little open ended with the ability to create your own drivers, sponsors, select cars, etc. While it is possible in Java it is still a major pain. In C# with Sapi the task isn't all that bad. So I feel C# .NET might be right for Raceway. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] a new connpanny is in work
Hi Claudio, Yeah, I have heard of Blitzbasic. From what I understand it is a special game sdk based on basic which has been designed to wrap DirectX, OpenGL, and other gaming libraries for quick and rapid 3D game development. Not to be critical or anything, but it's Sryth, not Shryth. In answer to your question though, you can only access that if you have completed the Shattered Skull adventures and acquired Tzal Toalth. You also need to be a member of the Adventurers' Collective. If you have the staff and are in the Collective, visit the Guildmaster and converse with him. Re: [Audyssey] USA Games Engine was gma game engine
Hi William, If it makes you feel any better I am not a happy camper either. If I had my way I would pitch .NET, DirectX, and Windows in the trash tomorrow and go Mac or Linux. However, through my research so far Windows still has the best libraries, sdks, and resources for accessible game developers. DirectX is a highly proven gaming technology, Sapi 5 is a core part of the Windows os, and C# .NET is slowly growing support for XBox and Windows game developers. Alternatives like Java are good languages, have lots of features, but since it is not tied to any single os there is features you are going to lose a long the way. As I do a one to one comparison Genesis 3D would really benifit from core Windows technologies like Sapi, DirectX DirectInput controller support, and DirectX DirectSound is still better for audio environments from what I have tested. william lomas wrote: > hi ah, shame, so mac users like myself may still need a whole > operating system called windows, smile, which we went away from, > smile, just for gaming? > if that's the case fair neough but i ahve a whole operating system of > xp on here just for gaming which is ashame really since i got a mac > for stability and to get away from windows entirely > > On 12 Mar 2008, at 15:56, Thomas Ward wrote: > > >> Hi Shaun and all, >> The USA Games engine, Genesis 3D, is a 3D FPS game engine written in >> C# >> .NET, uses .NET Framework 3.5, DirectX 9.0C, supports sapi 5.1/5.3, >> and >> is designed in such a way to create games through a level editor and >> game editor. [Audyssey] USA Games engine was GMA Game Engine?
Hi Phil, Yeah, I think you will find the USA Games engine, Genesis 3D, is a lot more up to date than the GMA engine. It is written in C# .NET, currently uses .NET Framework 3.x, supports DirectX 9.0C, and should have more realistic 3D game play. For example, in Sarah I noticed the basement and ground floor were actually on the same level. In Genesis you should be able to stack the basement and ground floor on top of each other like they should be. Anyway, if there are any suggestions you would like to see in Genesis 3D let me know, and I will see if I can include the features and suggestions into the engine as I work on it later this summer/fall. Re: [Audyssey] the gma game engine
Hi Phil, Yeah, man power is a major factor why as developers something like the GMA engine is necessary. Even as a programmer I can't afford to code all my games by hand. That is why I began the Genesis 3D Project. Genesis 3D when completed will allow me to create several FpS games just by using the level editor and game designer program. However, because it is me creating the game engine I can't add every feature I want into my engine either. I imagine the first few versions of the engine are going to be rather limited in some ways, and because Genesis is designed ot do FPS that will likely be its main style of game. Though, I have looked at making a 2d side-scroller version of it for games like Mysteries Of the Aztecs. Re: [Audyssey] the gma game engine
Hi Alex, As a gamer and a developer I can see both sides of this issue. As a gamer I confess the GMA engine does have some limitations such as true 3d movement, the ability to jump, crouch, climb, swim, etc. As a developer though I still think the GMA engine is a remarkable piece of work. I have to hand GMA lots of credit for being the first to create a fully accessible FPS game engine which has made games like Shades Of Doom, Sarah, etc possible in the first place. As far as the engine being limited in the types of games possible that is a common problem with game engines in general. Often times a game engine is designed to support or create a game of a certain type of genre. For example, the Quake engine used to create Quake and Star Trek Elite Force was especially designed to create FPS shooters. So it is no wonder that the Quake engine has been reused to create several other FPS commercial games. As a side effect of being based on the Quake technology you can still see evidence of the Quake engine underneath the Trek theme in Elite Force and instead of Quake characters there are Borg, Species 8472, scavengers, etc instead. What I am basically saying here is your criticism is justifiable, but do keep in mind a game engine can only support the types of games it was created to make. You can't expect a game designed for FPS games to support side-scrollers, football games, racing games, etc as that is far out of the engines design. A new engine designed for that style of game needs to be created. Perhaps it is just me, but other than the engine I can't see anything similar between Sarah and Shades of Doom. The sounds are different, the game play is different, the story is different, etc. What more do you want? alex wallis wrote: > Hi list. > I just thought i'd throw in my views about the gma game engine. > Personally I think the gma game engine is fairly limited in what it can do, > I mean any games made with it, bar different sounds are just about the same, > I mean None of the games made with it have full 3d movement, you can't > crouch or jump. > And no disrespect to pcs games here, but packman talks is basicly almost > like sod and its quite repetative this seems to be a feature of all games > made with the engine, I mean who wants to play through 30 levels of the same > old stuff? > Tank commander is an ok game but it still suffers from fairly limited replay > value. > Its a shame James north never finished his game engine as it sounded like it > would have been really good. Re: [Audyssey] l-works baseball
I'm not a baseball fan but that could just be because I've never understood the game. If someone were to create a realistic accessible baseball game I'd be open to trying it. Re: [Audyssey] l-works baseball
hey leeum! if you made a really good baseball, football, and golf games with real sounds and commentators and stuff you bet ya I'd be one of the first to buy it! I've wanted a great american football and american baseball game that's more realistic than Jim Kitchen's game is. Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen's monopoly
Hi Josh, I'm sorry, but I do not have sound files such as a cane tapping or a braille writer. However monopoly is one of my games that does not check the wave files so you can change them and put those sounds in if you like. The name of the sound file that is the token moving on the game board is monopoly2.wav. HTH BFN Jim There are two ways to write error-free programs; only the third one works. Re: [Audyssey] Sryth newer adventures
Mezaryl has the second gem, but she charges something of a hefty price, especially if you don't have the skill of Diplomacy at level seventy. I believe it's sixteen adventurer tokens and fifteen-thousand gold. Re: [Audyssey] need help sorry to go o t.
hello ian. firstly, I'd suggest you join the otteasy list to post questions like this there, you can find it at http://groups.google.com/group/otessey/ I assume by the display name you mean the one displayed in the E-mail, the same way it says "dark" on mine. this is done separately for each E-mail account you might have running in outlook express, when i use my private E-mail address, the name does not come up as dark for example. go to the tools menue, and enter the accounts item. You'll now be in a property sheet with various boxes. In the first box, select the account you wish to change the name for, then tab across to the properties button. You'll now be in the property sheet for that account with information such as "E-mail address" two boxes in, you'll find the box which says "name" along with various others, type what you want in there then tab across to the okay button. Hth. Beware the Grue! Dark. - Original Message - From: "ian and riggs" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2008 1:55 AM Subject: [Audyssey] need help sorry to go o t. >h sorry to go o t how do i change my display name in out look express >thanks. > --- > Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org > If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at > http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. > All messages are archived and can be searched and read at > http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED] > If you have any questions or concerns regarding the management of the > list, > please send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG. > Version: 7.5.518 / Virus Database: 269.21.7/1322 - Release Date: > 09/03/2008 12:17 > > --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org.
