Re: [Audyssey] Visual Basic 6 reasons why I love it
Hi Bryan, Yes, Visual Basic 2008 works fine with Window eyes 6.1. Interesting enough on the game developers list we just went through an entire discussion of Visual Basic 2008, DirectX 9.0C, and other languages. Sometime, not sure when, I am going to be doing some VB 2008 tutorials for DirectX 9.0C since Microsoft has absolutely no documentation on it, and what I know basically came from converting it from C++ and C#. Definitly one advantage of being versed in multiple programming languages at once. Re: [Audyssey] Visual Basic 6 reasons why I love it
Hi Bryan, Well, personally I would strongly recommend that anyone interested in Visual Basic at least give Visual Basic 2008 a try. It is free, and contains many of the features Jim Kitchen mentioned earlier. As for Visual Basic 6 you can still get it used from some place like Ebay, but why would you really want to? We are talking Windows 98 era stuff, and if you are looking at something that is more with the times VB 2008 is a newer and better solution. One major advantage VB 2008 has over VB 6 is an improved object oriented design like C++, Java, etc with the same ease of use as VB 6. Though, before I go I want to give this little disclaimer. You really should be running at least Jaws 7 or higher to be able to use the VB 2008 IDE. I've used it with Jaws 9 and it works fine. I have not tried it with Jaws 4.02 and I am not all that sure I'd want to. Last time I encountered Jaws 4.02 with some of the apps I was running on XP speech output royally sucked with Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Nero 7, and some of the other apps I am using. Hense the upgrade to Jaws 8 now 9. 1. It is not cryptic to me. I E it uses words that I can understand, such as, If, Then, GoTo, GoSub, Return, format, etc. 2. There is a vast amount of people, help manuals and programming examples that can be found on the Internet. 5. The IDE works very well for me with Jaws 4.02. So I can write a line of code and press one key to run and test the code that I just wrote as well as compile and create the executable with just a couple of key strokes all right in the IDE. 6. I can get a game idea and write the code and get the game finished in a very timely manner. BFN Jim I am using BASIC, because I don't want to be C-sick. I'd have to think about it. right now I'm on vacation so I haven't really put much thought in to it. there's still some bugs to iron out, for instance on some muds, the plugin doesn't read correctly at all. the last thing I want to do is release a half working plugin I've thought about making the system donationware. I don't expect people to fork out even more money after buying z mud, and let's face it. it's not exactly cheap. it is a great program though, and is about the most stable thing I've used for mudding. - Original Message - From: "Jeremy Gilley" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2008 5:26 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] ZMud > TELL ME ABOUT HOW MUCH WOULD YOU CHARGE TO COVER YOUR COSTS AND I JUST > MIGHT > FORKE A CHUNK OVER IF YOU CAN FOLLOW UP WITH THE CODING. > - Original Message - > From: "Liam Erven" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "Gamers Discussion list" > Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2008 4:39 PM > Subject: Re: [Audyssey] ZMud > > >> I'm writing one and really haven't finished it yet. financing is my main >> problem. it will cost me 40 bucks to register the sdk to actually make >> public plugins. >> I'm not in any big hurry to pay that unless I know I'm getting something >> back from it. [Audyssey] BALL is up and Flying
We have done it! The first ever inclusive blind fantasy Draft baseball League has been launched. The "Blind Accessible Liberty League" (BALL) had the first ever accessible Live! draft! A draft that is live and having a draft clock, allowing managers of the league to draft by a clock and been done! BALL a league of 8 blind managers completed its first week of competition. A few bugs been worked with the help of Richard aka Bean on this list. Richard the manager who's team is called the Blind Bombers is pitted against my Hog Butchers this week. Thanks Richard for your help in making BALL a flying success. The manager of the Lancing Capitals, Gary W. scored the highest points in the first week with 293. He will find the other 20 weeks in our schedule as stiff competitive as the first week. All 8 managers including Moony, known on as on FTP, or Amanda our lone female manager a tough bunch of baseball fans to up against in this first ever blind fantasy Baseball League ran by and for the blind. As the Men's College Basketball Championship pool closed with the winner being Steve, BALL is my honor to bring to the blind community. To see the results of the basketball tourney for the blind just hop on the link below. http://playball.ws Then click on the link "Ruffle the Buffalo", to see the final standings. IN six months we will find who will be the first person to be crown king of Blind Accessible Liberty League. Certain a great honor. To keep tabs on this historical event enter on the link below: http://www.fanstarbaseball.com/baseball/blindaccessi/index.php As commissioner of BALL I see its future as being bright as the league will grow over time and even prizes to be award. Now that I have nearly five years in bring accessible pools like basketball, football and baseball playoff, I am considering that its time to make the grand prizes not come from my pocket, but from other blind Organizations. I have the confidence in my learned skills as a blind pool master, to bring the blindaccessibles pools to a higher level. Where more members and better pay offs can be done. For BALL only being one year old at season end, it too will give me time to learn and develop needed commissioner skills to bring sponsorship to it as well. Ron you have my OK to use this email in your mag. Thanks again to Bean and all those historical managers of BALL. Re: [Audyssey] ZMud
I'm writing one and really haven't finished it yet. financing is my main problem. it will cost me 40 bucks to register the sdk to actually make public plugins. I'm not in any big hurry to pay that unless I know I'm getting something back from it. I hate to sound selfish, but there aren't that many people who use z mud, so it's kind of a nich market in a nich market. - Original Message - From: "jaliya skye" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2008 1:48 PM Subject: [Audyssey] ZMud > Hi everyone: > > My friend is a die-hard ZMud user. Well it depends on other gamers for the market, but I wouldn't mind paying for an offline version of such an excellent game, especially if you do put in cool features like what you said. Yeah, it's extremely boring. I've played it at some point and didn't back down for quite a while. I knew all of my alliance members so we all quit at the same time. I still haven't found an online scifi game that has a story yet, just number crunching, and who can take over more planets than your neighbors type games. Hi everyone: My friend is a die-hard ZMud user. Before upgrading JFW, ZMud read like it was supposed to, but now that she is using version 9 of jaws, it no longer does so. It skips lines, etc. She doesn't want to switch, and she can't get that older version of jaws on her PC since the other one crashed. Re: [Audyssey] can't play the playzentergames
Hi, If you are referring to the Experimental Audio Games (http://www.audiogames.net/playcenter/index_exp.php) then I can tell you that we have *never* had any sort of plan of releasing any of these free student games on CD or whatsoever. If you are referring to the games in the PlayCenter (http://www.audiogames.net/playcenter/ - which features the games Drive, The Curb Game and Sudo-San), then the answer is no for the last two games. Drive was released on CD many years ago already and copies were handed out free. But that stock (3000?) is gone by now. Sander and I did discuss making executables of The Curb Game and Sudo-San available for free download so you could play these offline, but those plans were shelved when we started finishing our PhD research. And regarding Sudo-San, we initially wanted to provide a free online copy and sell an advanced copy, with more functionality such as being able to save a puzzle and change the grid size and so forth. But due to too little time, we never got around to developing this. I'll discuss it with Sander. Are there many of you out there which would like a downloadable offline version of either The Curb Game or Sudo-San? Re: [Audyssey] RPG Audio Game
No worries. I'll need all the help I can get. You don't need to sign up or anything. I'll make it freely available to test provided you don't mind stumbling into bugs now and then. I have some experience with internet multiplayer games having written a few demos with that feature. So the short answer is yes, it will have multiplayer. The long answer is I wont be adding it until well after all the core mechanics are in. I have two types of multiplayer in mind. One allows a certain number of players to dungeon crawl together. The other I'm still working out the design, but I want a sort of shared world. One that records the exploits of everyone who has ventured there. I'll try to explain it more later on when this project is more mature (and I'm sure the game is fun enough to warrant the effort!) --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] can't play the playzentergames
Hi Claudio, You can download the Flash Player (browser plugin)here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BUIGP (the direct link is http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe ) I think this already includes a standalone player. For the sake of accessibility, we have also added a link to a standalone Flash Player: http://gluid.com/games/downloads/expgames3/SAFlashPlayer.zip If anyone has any trouble with the player, please post and I'll try to help you. I don't know if one has to have Flash installed for this player to work. Greets and have fun!
