Re: [Audyssey] Sad gaming news
Hi Lindsay, That's correct. A lot of us found that out the hard way. As I understand it Windows Vista has drastic changes in vidio support, and these changes in vidio support breaks compatibility with some older games such as FS 2002. I'm not surprised because as a software developer myself I have seen lots of development changes between XP and Vista. Many older technologies are being removed and many other newer technologies are slowly being incorperated. For example, Microsoft's decision to begin removing DirectInput, DirectSound, DirectPlay, etc and replace them with XAudio, XInput, etc. So FS 2002 won't be the first nor the last program you might have that fails to work properly on Vista and the up coming Windows 7. Personally I think Microsoft is making too many changes too fast resulting in third party software developers to play catch up and update all of their software at once to target the newer Windows platforms. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] arborell
Hi Jaliya. I'm really glad you like Arborell. it's one of my favourite gamebook and world resources on the net. I love the writing, love the history, and all the extra resources. there's been a link to it on the gamebooks page at whitestick for quite a while now, but sinse the gm has been unwell there's been a very long hiatus with no updates to report, which is a shame. Apparently very soon, he's also begining work on an accessible online version of the torchlight tabletop game, sinse at the moment you actually need to print out cards in order to play it. Sinse I first contacted him back in 2006, he's been fantasstic about accessibility, see for example the text explanations of in game maps and the timeline! which is why i'd really like to promote his stuff as much as possible, sinse it's really nice to find something like this which is both high quality, and produced by someone who's bothered about accessibility. So, keep checking the site, though be sure I'll detail any interesting updates both here and on the front page of audiogames.net. Beware the Grue! line in it will have they seem to combine everything into the headphone jack as well as the actual port. However laptop cards in general are just that basic laptop cards they don't have much going through them. at any rate these cards are for sound on the average person's laptop. Ok hopefully someone could answer this. Off list is fine if you guys don't want to clutter the list. Does anyone know how to enable both stereo mix and the microphone on windows vista? I can only enable one or the other, not both. I'd really like to do some game recordings, but I can't figure out how to do this. Also I don't see a line-in option either, and there was definitely one on xp. so now I can't record from any external source. any ideas? Vista is really annoying me. Re: [Audyssey] smugglers 4 really frustrated.
well I was contemplating buying smuglers to play with my friends. It was either that or buy missisipy first. looks like the latter will be what I will buy first and I may never buy that game at all. pitty, I'd have got it and its expantion packs as one package. [Audyssey] smugglers 4 really frustrated.
hi list. just wondering, has anyone else had problems getting hold of neils bower? as i'm e mailing the support address given on his website, but i keep getting my mails bounced. i'm going to try in the forums, but then if i still don't get an answer i want my money back which would be a shame. half the reason i think the smugglers 4 interface is so hard to use is that the options are all jumbled with text. i wonder why he hasn't or won't join the gamers list to consult on accessibility instead of assuming what we need. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. [Audyssey] arborell
Oh my gosh. Why didn't you ever give us this little gem earlier? This looks very, very awesome. Being someone who absolutely sucks at anything involving interactive fiction, I think I could sink my teeth in to this. It would be fun to start a character with someone and do the same gamebook to see how different our paths are in how we progress in the game. Thank you so much for posting about this. Not only do they have a fully rewritten version of the gamebook windhammer for people to try outk, but their also running a gamebook competition as well. Anyone is welcome to enter, just write 100 sections of gamebook (either a complete story or part of a larger work), and submit it. the winner not only gets to have their work hosted on the chronicals of arborell site, but also there's a cash prize as well. for details just go to http://www.arborell.com/windhammer_prize.html Personally, Arborell has to be one of my favourite online gamebook and fantasy world sites ever, so I'd deffinately recommend it, and as for the competition, well I might well try that myself if I have the time. Re: [Audyssey] ship combat in smugglers 4
Hi Alex. At the top of the ship combat screen is some information, whether you've got reinforcements coming and how many rounds until they arrive, your shields, and your opponent's shields, and whether enemy reinforcements are on the way. Then, going down the ship combat screen the options appear like this: "fire guns" "Start missiles" "Use Ecm to destroy enemy missiles" "ship's special ability" then is a heading "Combat abilities" with your combat abilities such as diciplin, taunt or focus beam undernieth. that's how it appears with hal anyway. I know che martin was thinking of writing a jaws script for the game, which would be helpful if it's this problematic with Jaws. I also know though that shadowdragon has managed to play a lot of the game using Jaws, so hopefully either way there's a way round. all the best, Dark. - Original Message - From: "alex wallis" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, October 05, 2008 4:53 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] ship combat in smugglers 4 hi. i have activated compatibility mode. as there is that anoying thing at the top of the screen that says compatibility mode for visually impaired players and then something about turning it off. i can now find the guns option consistently when using the jaws cursor, however i am having serious problems trying to click other options in the combat screen such as the one that lets you activate things that aren't directly firing weapons i forget what its called as its like 4 in the morning here, as other options just get in the way. my problem is focusing the damb options because i frequently find for example that bits of some options are on lines with ones that i want to click, and i just can't focus on them. i am really thinking of asking for my money back unless i can get in touch with neils bower to talk to him about my problems, or unless someone else has a solution to my problems. my personal oppinion is that its great he's trying to build in accessibility, but the smugglers interface was not designed with blind people in mind, as a result massive use of the jaws cursor makes navigating around options a lot harder than it really should be. i think if he wants to build in accessibility maybe we should all politely try to get him to join this list, and then enter into a discussion with him about designing a completely new interface for blind players that would take advantage of using the pc cursor, list boxes and conventional menus. the other thing that also really anoys me with the combat system is having to click continue after every damb thing like firing a gun or missile there is just no need for it. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org.
