ah, if only they would do Watchmen. Not sure if any of you ever read that
12 part graphic novel series from Alan Moore released back in 1985, but it
is my favorite story in any format.

It was absolute genius, and I used to read it just about every year.
They are making a movie of it to be released March 6, and they actually
got the money and director to do it right.
I don't usually get that excited for new movies anymore, but this one will
have me there opoening day.

Hi,
Yeah, the Infinite Crisis was an awesome series. I am glad Graphic Audio
took the comic books and put them in a novel format like they did. Wonder
Woman Mythos, Batman Stone King, and Flash Stop Motion, were also well
done. I've got all of the Graphic Audio DC Comics series they have for
sale. In all I think it is 8 or 9 books they are up to for DC Comic
heroes so far.

To fix this, go to add remove programs and remove the xna 3.0 beta.
then run the intombed setup again.
then restart the system.
this should unbreak everything.

Just figured I'd let you know about this. Jolt Online, the company

Trukz and Nationstates2, announced recently that they were releasing
Legends of Zork, an MMO set in the Zork world, with the same storyline.
You're an unemployed salesman who was fired and than you have to make
choices from there of what you want to do to your character.

I'm not sure if they'll have the same quests in the game as in the
original Zork games, but what I'll say is it's got to have a storyline,
in that you play through it. If it's Zork they'd do well to have that.
You do start in the same area as in the original zork, the White House,
but it'll be open ended and you'll be able to team up with other players
on quests, which is pretty interesting.

The site is: http://www.legendsofzork.com

I'll certainly be looking forward to this when it comes out, and
hopefully they'll be asking for testers soon.

Hi Dark.

As one of the people who have played all the capcom-developed marvel
fighting games, I can tell you that all of them are accessible completely.
Nice thing, they announce which character you choose as well, and each
character has their own unique voice and particular details. All in all, a
very accessible series, as is the rest of all the fighting games made by
capcom.

Hi Shadow Dragon,
If you can find the movie the Punisher that will basically give you a
good idea of who the Punisher is. The easiest way to describe him think
of Rambo in a black body suit with a skull on the chest and a black mask
over his eyes. Unlike a lot of super heroes the Punisher doesn't seam to
really care about arresting people and letting he authorities take care
of it. He just blows them away and end of story. In the movie the
Punisher is a bit too trigger happy for my preference.

Shadow Dragon wrote:
Oh, you're right, I have heard of those guys. Didn't think of them as
marvel for some reason, but then again I'm much more familiar with the
DC universe given the stuff graphic audio's done with it and a bit of
fanfiction I read some time ago. The punisher sounds vaguely familiar,
but I can't remember exactly who he is for some reason. I have to admit
I haven't seen games with these guys in them though, save for spiderman,
who was in x men mutant academy 2. Would definitely be interested in a
more modern day fighting game based around the marvel stuff. Marvel
versus Nemesis was pretty nice, but also fairly well inaccessible, at
least for the ps2.

Hi,
Yeah, the Infinite Crisis was an awesome series. I am glad Graphic Audio
took the comic books and put them in a novel format like they did.
Wonder Woman Mythos, Batman Stone King, and Flash Stop Motion, were also
well done. I've got all of the Graphic Audio DC Comics series they have
for sale. In all I think it is 8 or 9 books they are up to for DC Comic
heroes so far.

Clement Chou wrote:

Hi Ron,
As for how the CGI graphics look I'm not the best person to ask because
I can't see it. However, it is my understanding the CGI tech is getting
close to movie quality.
As far as Masters of the Universe shows goes yes there is a newer series
out. There was a series that was released in 2002 and ran until 2004.
I've seen some of the shows out on DVD so I know it is out there if you
want to get it.

I'm not sure if it's quite correct but I think of most modern games as

movie Braveheart.
Asking this might be a tad off topic but was there another Masters of the
Universe cartoon? I remember the older one [sheepish grin] and even have
some of them im mp3. *coughs*

Hi,
Searching various fan based wikis is a great way to get up to speed with
a certain character in a hurry. Even though I read a lot of comics as a
kid and am familiar with most DC and Marvel characters I was suprised
there were quite a few I knew nothing about. That was either because
they added that character after I went blind or the character played a
very miner roll in the comic books to begin with. Wikipedia and other
resources was an invaluable resource on getting up to speed.

Hey all,

Just figured I'd let you know about this. Jolt Online, the company behind

I'll certainly be looking forward to this when it comes out, and
hopefully they'll be asking for testers soon.

time. I had a few good games UFO, Armoured Attack, KC Munchkin, Freedom
Fighter, and Quest for the ring come to mind quickly but others as well.
Have some fun memories of that system. It was my first console that I ever
had. I even remember when the power shorted and the ac adaptor caught fire!
*lol* Not bad games but the graphics looking back ... *shudders*

Re: [Audyssey] video game memories

Is true you would have to know the names. But wiki tends to have lists as
well, so you might be able to find a list of the marvel characters or dc
characters as it suits you. Also a lot of the entries tend to have related
links to other characters, like if a hero fought a rather obscure villain in
an episode and the villain never returned, you might still find mension of
him and a link to a wiki entry describing his powers and such. But wiki
isn't infalible, there's probably a lot of gaps. Would be neat to find a
site with listings as such of the full cast and crew.

Personally I don't exactly think the marvel characters are more popular, a
lot of it is that the most commonly known series from the marvel universe is
x men, and there's a whole ton of x men, so when you compare it to shows
like superman, or batman, where there's only really one main hero and some
villains, its not really a fair matchup. Personally I don't really know of
any other marvel people besides the x men off hand.

My god, wolverine versus baraka would be insane. It's the perfect matchup,
extendable metal claws versus extendable metal blades. It'd be insane. And a
lot of the other marvel powers would fit right in with the mk stuff too,
like gambit with his staff and cards, cyclopse with his laser eye, etc. You
could get some seriously intense matchups going there. Lets hope they manage
to get the license to some of the marvel characters and break out a truly
finominal game. MK versus DC had its finer points, baraka versus deathstroke
for the win, but nothing could beat mk versus marvel. Save maybe another
straight mk game without the superhero craziness.

Marvel Nemesis was a pretty good game... and actually, it was more or less
pretty accessible, assuming you could get past the glitch in the ps2

Oh, you're right, I have heard of those guys. Didn't think of them as
marvel for some reason, but then again I'm much more familiar with the DC
universe given the stuff graphic audio's done with it and a bit of
fanfiction I read some time ago. The punisher sounds vaguely familiar,
but I can't remember exactly who he is for some reason. I have to admit I
haven't seen games with these guys in them though, save for spiderman,
who was in x men mutant academy 2. Would definitely be interested in a
more modern day fighting game based around the marvel stuff. Marvel
versus Nemesis was pretty nice, but also fairly well inaccessible, at
least for the ps2.

Hi Shadow Dragon

To mention a few other Marvel characters there is
Daredevil
Captain America
various Greek/Norse figures
The Avengers [with numerous members over the years]
And others that aren't coming to mind. Makes me wonder if there is an
online version of the Marvel Universe, which was bios on all the characters
including the dead ones.

Just without a title or system it's not always easy to find. Or maybe it is
I don't exactly know. Be great to play some of the Marvel characters or

There are other Marvel games out there. I remember there was a Spiderman
game that came out for the PC a couple years back that was pretty good.
It wasn't very accessible but it did have high quality sounds and graphics.

Hi Tom

I'm not sure if it's quite correct but I think of most modern games as
semi-movie like in the display. Giving it that almost real perspective. I
do know there was a fair bit [and even this is old I guess] used in the

Asking this might be a tad off topic but was there another Masters of the

Hi Ron,
Believe it. The graphics technology we have now for the XBox, PS3, and
Windows Vista is nothing short of spectacular compared to what we had in
the 80's and 90's. I'm just disappointed I can't see it for myself
first-hand.
One reason the graphics technology appears to be so good is many games
actually use male and female mottles to pose for various positions and
in various outfits. They probably even photograph them wet and dry for a
more realistic effect. Then they cut their image out of the photograph
and compile various clips of that mottle in hundreds of positions, from
several different angles, etc. Then in the game it simply displays the
mottle on the screen in the game world. if he/she looks real it is
because he/she was based on a live mottle rather than drawn using
computer generation.
That isn't to say all games use live mottles though. There are plenty
that use computer animation, similar to the new cartoons, to draw the
game worlds and characters. For example most modern cartoons from
Justice League Unlimited, to Transformers, to the 2003 Masters of the
Universe series were all done using computer graphics animation rather
than drawing all the images by hand and filming them.

Hi Clement,
I find that interesting. I'm not sure what part of the world you live, but
there are several more DC characters than you mention. For exmple the
Flash and Wonder woman have been pretty popular as well. Here is a basic
list of the most famous and well known DC heroes. Perhaps you have heard
of them?

Superman
Supergirl
Batman
The Flash
Hawkman
Hawkgirl
Green Lantern
Martion Manhunter
Aquaman
Wonder Woman

The above list is what i would consider the core members of the DC heroes.
I've heard about all of them via cartoons, comic books, and podcasts so
often I'd say they are fairly popular here in the U.S. I could understand
not hearing of the more little known super heroes like Black Canary,
Huntress, Fire, Ice, Stargirl, the Question, etc as they don't appear that
often in the DC Comics. Though, there are several heroes that I don't
even know very well.

Hi

I'd just have to say that if graphics have gotten that incredible
since I
last saw them then that is nothing short of spectacular! At the time
the
best were [showing my age here *l*] Atari 2600 and I've seen one
outstanding
documentary about those days. Also the Coleco Vision [Zaxxon and the
smurf
game *lol*]. So the tremendous change in even say 20 years. Having
said
that I do recall one of the first I ever saw was Telestar, it had a
few
sports games but extremely simplistic. As an example the i.e. ball
was a
small square on the screen. I'd still like to give the MK/DCU a good
try
wonder what it costs to rent for a night or two? Also I thought
someone
said there was a Marvel version I'd be keen on that as in my younger
days as
a comic collector I was more of a Marvel comics fan then DC. With
Wolverine

being among my favourite characters. Though I could see some other
characters putting up a good challenge as well.

Talk soon
Ron

Hi Jim,
Yeah, even I am amazed how much game technology has changed over the
passed 30 years. I remember when the first handful of games like Pong,
Demon Attack, Cosmic Ark, Atlantice, etc were released all the
graphics

were in black and white. Later games for the Atari like Packman,
Centipede, Montezuma's Revenge, etc were all in 16 color. That sounds
laughable now, but it made a huge difference in graphics technology at
the time.
When I am reading books on say Direct3D 10 it amazes me how the
describe

the different camera angles, rotating the graphics in real time, and
building a completely 3D environment from hundreds of little graphics
and sounds. The better your vidio card the better resolution and more
realistic the 3D images look on the screen. It is no wonder people are
blown away by the graphics in some of the 3D games of today.
I don't have a PS3 myself, but I have heard the graphics technology on
the PS3 is pretty amazing if you can see it. The newest installment of
the Tomb Raider series, Underworld, for the PS3 is very realistic
looking. I've been told when Lara Croft emerges from the water her
skin

looks wet and you litterally can see little droplets of water on her
body. I don't know about you, but that level of graphic detail blows
me

away.

Hi Ron.

I must confess, if I couldn't use my vision to actually see where my
character was in relation to at least some close objects such as walls and
monsters I doubt I'd have the patience, and I must confess one thing that
drew me to Adom over nethack is that while I certainly can't see the text, i
can see what colour things are which helps for general info.

I do hope though the dev gets back to me sinse I think with a coordinates
system and thus a huge reduction in the amount of mucking about the game
could be fantastic.

At the moment of course though I'm also getting used to the commands,
particularly examining itemes, sinse I can't determine whether that's
taken care of by the look and search functions or not.

In the cases of both games they can tend to take a great deal of patience
to play as it certainly isn't exactly fast paced.
A coordinate system wouldn't be that bad at all to tell the truth. What
I
sometimes do when in the village and sometimes the dungeons is to route
the

While this doesn't tell you spacifically where something is it does at
least

give you a sense of where an object is in relation to your character.
The elder is in a building that's only about 3x3 with an open door and
more or less west of the general store. And he doesn't tend to come out

It's a great game and even the race/class combinations are extensive

Hi Ron.

The problem I found with Nethack was one of time.

It took so long to determine A, where my character was in relation to the
environment, B, what all the objects around me were, and C, what I could
then do about them, that the game just took far long to play, especially
when i'd been around a bit and the screen was getting crowded.

Adom however seems much more reliant upon text messages and the look
command

is a godsend.

Actually If the developer would introduce some sort of coordinates system
which you could check, pluss some alerts and ways of checking for the
locations of various objects, I atually think the game could be played
without reference to the aski at all, just using the look command and
coordinates, which would be fantastic given the complexity of the game.

In the village I'm having real trouble just locating the elder for
example,

though obviously he must be there somewhere, if I could just check the
coordinates of people I'm sure I could find him.

I hope the dev gets back to me on this.

Hi Dark

Ancient Domains was one of my first accessible rpg's that I played.
Granted there is a steep learning curve as to the commands and all the
different symbols.
*snip*
there is absolutely no way of tracking them without using your look

*snip*
Very true this is especially annoying when you are attempting to track a

of the villagers. I've sometimes used the JFW curser to track them
instead

of the look command.
*snip*
I haven't for example been able to find the village elder at all, and only
once have I found the sherrif.
*snip*
The elder is in a small building with a door facing [I'm guessing here]
south. As for the sheriff he's one of those wandering '@' signs. I know
of
two other quests in the village. There is one you can get from a child,
and

also a baby dragon though I don't know as these show in each game.
*snip*
It would be really useful if a basic coordinate system could be added
which

would alert you of the relative coordinates of objects around you,
specifically monsters, items, doors and stairways, also a coordinates
system

for when using the look command.
*snip*
I'd also like to see Thomas Bisup implement a 'go to' command like
Nethack

has, it would make getting to an exit much simpler.

*snip*
Just my thoughts. I might well contact the dev on this, sinse compared to
my

nethack experience adom is incredibly accessible.
*snip*
He does seem quite open to suggestion for improving the game from what
I've

seen. I've spent many hours with it over the years.

All the best

Hi Thomas,

I never saw any of the black and white video games. Most all video games that I ever
played were on my Atari 2600 and Atari 800 XL. And on those probably the best video
was like Donkey Kong, Popeye and Star Wars. Which were only a tiny bit better than
the graphics in games like Space Invaders, Missile Command, Pacman, Pong, Pole
Position, bowling, baseball, football etc. I am sure that I would be totally blown
away by the graphics in the games these days. Especially the X rated ones.

[Audyssey] Adon

2009-01-15 Thread dark
Hi.

Well I'm trying out Adom. I must admit my ability to see coloured text is
helping, but actually imho it's got some of the nicest roguelike features ever,
in particular the examine command which gives you a curser you can wander
around the screen with and look at objects around your character.

The only thing that makes things quite difficult for me, and would make
things a regular pest for access without use of the screen is that everything
and everyone in the game moves around each time your character does, and there
is absolutely no way of tracking them without using your look command to wander
the hole screen.

I haven't for example found been able to find the village elder at all, and
only once have I found the sherrif.

It would be really useful if a basic coordinate system could be added which

Re: [Audyssey] video game memories

2009-01-15 Thread Shadow Dragon

My hopes aren't dashed yet. I do hope midway puts out a marvel and mortal

maybe Wolverine and Baraka. Either way, I hope it'll happen.

And on the off-topic note, I do agree that marvel characters seem to be
more popular. The only real DC icons I'd heard of before this game were
Batman, the Joker, Superman and very very rarely Catwoman. Otherwise...
rarely. And I hope Capcom and Marvel reproduce another fighting game...
I've wanting those, very very badly. lol. I miss Marvel VS. Capcom. But to
answer your question, no marvel console fighting games have come out..
though a lot of good beat em ups have made it.
