[Audyssey] flightgear

2009-08-03 Thread shaun everiss
Hi guys.
just looked at flightgear.
I think we are better to stay with fs.
There are a few reasons.
1. after getting extra scenary, aircraft, etc its over a couple gb.
2. everything about the prog is inaccessible, even the tools and some of the
senary instalers.
3. all the sounds sound like they came from an 8khz mono encoder some sound
stereo but still the quality is just rubbish.
even when you get the aircrafts you can't see all of them to select.
I managed to get some runways selected and aircraft.
managed to get to a screen with display settings and after that no go.
I was going to write the dev of this to see about accessibility but now I won't
bother.

Re: [Audyssey] dos games again

2009-08-03 Thread peter Mahach

matheus,
we are looking into years here, not to add that sarah is not finished yet.
plus, at least with outlook you can make rules so if it sees a message about
the pcs dos games or similar it'll instantly trash it, and like you said
many people want it. this thread there on klango is quite long and I would
suggest reading it to see what was going on there, as that was quite
interesting. too bad we gone nowhere afterwards.

but look,to make windows versions of these games it will take monts, and
it's really simple, make a file explaining the steps that the user
have to do to be able to run the games, and explain that since it was a
collection of old games, you aren't going to give support / answer to
questions related to the games, and that if it doesn't works, to the
user simple don't play it.
and still, if you are going to make windows versions of these games it
will take more time from you, that's even worse bekause you will do
something again that's already finished.
a lot of peoples want these games, they sayd here, on the klango forums,
even created a petition.

Hi Josh,
I know there are a few people who can still play the old PCS DOS games but
giving all my DOS games away for free would not be a good business move as
I

plan to make windows versions of many of them.
Also despite putting a notice that I would not support them, I am sure to
get hundreds of messages complaining that the games don't work on their
computers.

If another game developer is willing to collaborate and help me produce
windows versions of my old games I would welcome any contact.

hello,
the following is a klango forum post about classic dos games. also if
anyone knows if any night football for dos works in windows I'd like to
have the full copy of that game, along with full copy of world series
baseball for dos.

And now, for even more good news! Listen to the following from Phil
very carefully:

Hi Trenton
I finally broke down and purchased a new computer with Vista.
I will be trying out my DOS games on it.
Is there something you did to get Jim Kitchen's DOS games to work on your
computer?
Phil

Yes folks, they work wonderflly on Vista!

And now, my message to Phil himself:

Subject: Kitchen's Inc Games For Dos Confirmed On Vista Platform!

 Hello Phil,

If you can't upload any of the dos games that you have, can I at least
donate something to you for the game snipe hunt or Panzars In North
Africa? Jim's Dos version of bopit game has no problems with the Vista
basic machine I have.
So I just wanted to let ya know that they are working fine on my machine
with no problems. I know you're probably annoyed by now about this, I
just wanted to let ya know that I am not having any problems.
All you'd have to do, is make a disclaimer on your dos games page that
no

support for these titles is available, and if something happens to their
pc, its not your fault.
Your dos games for the blind, are like what the atari was for the
sighted

gamer. They may not have been workable with every sound card on the
market, but at least you provided different sound drivers for the game to
at least have a way to produce its sounds, and I liked what you created!
Windows may be the way of the future, however DOS still has its pride.
You can still make your windows port of all the games you've ever made,
but just like the sighted gamer, there isn't a sighted that could not be
found online for free. And that's why I, and at least 5 other folks want
the games back on the market! And here's proof to that claim:
 http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/pcsdosgames
One of the users on Klango has started a petition to get these games
back. If you don't want to bring back your famous games for me, then do
it for your fans of the audio gaming world, and I just don't mean for the
audiogames.net web site! And yes, on the front page close to the top of
the galaxy, it says A devision of PCS Games!
The Gaming Galaxy was made in your honor, and the only way its going
away, is if your web site does.
I just wanted you to know that.
 Take care, and happy gaming!
 Sincerely,
 Trenton

I think we wrapped this up no didn't we!

2009-08-03 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Josh,

Just wanted to mention that I have converted all of my dos games to windows
versions. Personally I think that the windows versions are much better. You
know because they use DirectX rather than shelling out to use an external sound
player program. Plus I like the sapi5 voices. The only advantage that I can
even think of is that the dos versions do put text to the screen rather than to
the sapi5 text to speech engine.

well you wouldn't necessarily need to make it starwars, you could make a
generic arcade type with sfx.
we don't really have a space invaders game.
Ok we have alienoutback and asonic invaders and even another few games but they
don't sound like an arcade machine.

Re: [Audyssey] dos games again

2009-08-03 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Well, as far as time goes that depends on how much time the developer
has to work on it and how easy the game is to program. Some of the PCS
Dos games are fairly simple programs. For example, PCS Monopoly,
probably wouldn't take that long to create. The Kick Boxing game would
be fairly easy to write as well.

peter Mahach wrote:

matheus,
we are looking into years here, not to add that sarah is not finished
yet.
plus, at least with outlook you can make rules so if it sees a message
about the pcs dos games or similar it'll instantly trash it, and
like you said many people want it. this thread there on klango is
quite long and I would suggest reading it to see what was going on
there, as that was quite interesting. too bad we gone nowhere afterwards.

you get Its Your Plane you will be able to use FS 2004 by verbally
issuing commands to FS.

Hi Lindsay,
Yes, that is a common problem with older VB 6 programs and Windows

Re: [Audyssey] Super Liam Error

2009-08-03 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Liam,
No, it doesn't have to do with DirectX. It has to do with the fact that
there is a VB 6 runtime library missing. I can't remember which one is
missing that causes that particular error, but it is fixable. Although,
even when you do fix it there are other issues when running SL on Vista
if User Account Control is active.

Re: [Audyssey] Super Liam Error

2009-08-03 Thread James Dietz
Technobabble:
Some libraries super liam uses are dx8vb.dll (the directx 8 vb
runtime) and another ActiveX control used for sending scores (either
wininet.ocx or msinet.ocx). If the installer isn't setting them up
propperly you should transfer them from another machine with them
installed by finding them in windows\system32 and. Place them in the
same folder on your vista machine (windows\system32) and run regsvr32
on them like so:
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dx8vb.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msinet.ocx
You probably need to be admin to do this, or respond to a UAC prompt.
I run Liam ' free games under Windows 7. I installed Shades of Doom
and stopped getting errors afterwards. Unfortunately I can't run them
from the desktop shortcuts as I get a could not load
sounds/soandso.ogg. the error code was 6. Fix it now! error; I have
to manually navigate to the folder I installed them to and run the
executable.

[Audyssey] fs2004 using the ATIS

2009-08-03 Thread alex wallis

Hi list.

I am wondering if someone could please tell me how I go about getting the
ATIS working in fs2004?
I am programming in the weather to fs2004, I tell it to use the real world
weather updated every 15 minutes, and this is downloaded into the simulator.
however, I then get to the point where I want to use my radios, I start
hitting 1 waiting for something to happen after pressing the ` key and
eventually I begin the process of starting the takeoff making my initial
contact to file my flight plan. But for some reason I get no ATIS, I am sure
I must be missing a trick, because I have listened to nicks podcast about
the basics lots of times, and I guess I must be missing something as it just
sounds to me like he is pressing the ` key, then jabbing 1 a few times to
get the weather. But to be honest I found that hole beginning section of the
podcast confusing, I would actually really like to see one that simply
covers communications in great detail right from before takeoff to
throughout a flight to landing.
As his podcast kind of starts in the middle as far as a flight goes, and he
doesn't give much commentry especially while getting clearance and finding
out about the weather.

I am also wondering what do I do with a lot of the information the ground
gives me when I contact them? which is very hit and miss for me as I can't
get used to the radio lol.
I am talking about when it lists several runways for example like runway 1
runway 2 runway 5 and goes on about taxying? I mean I know what taxying is,
but why the mentioning of all the different runways?

I think if a podcast was done that actually picks apart the communication
piece by piece line by line that would be extremely helpful as I know about
things like setting the squork but other things are still not clear to me
lol.

[Audyssey] Problems installing Kitchensinc games on Vista machine.

2009-08-03 Thread Bryan Peterson
Hi all,
I recently decided to install the Kitchens Inc games on my Windows Vista
laptop, and in the process I've run into a rather strange problem. The Winkit
file installed properly and seems to work properly when I run it. However when
I try to install one of the other games I get the following error message.
Can't create output file: c:\program files\kitchensinc\game name.exe, where
Game Name is obviously the name of the game I tried to install. This has
happened for every game I tried to run, the one exception of course being the
game menu itself. I'm wondering what, if anything, I can do about this. Any
help would be appreciated.

[Audyssey] sound-rts ideas

2009-08-03 Thread Josh
Hi,

I have some ideas for the next sound-rts.
1. ability to add your own background music in ogg file to play while you play
various ssingle and multiplayer maps. music plays in loops, volume of music can
be controlled, music controlled by music on/off in menu. each map and section
can have its own music.

2. ability to rename units and buildings.
Finally I will buy a new netbook next month and when I do I plan on seeing what
fantasy video game intros I can get on youtube and convert to mp3 maybe I could
make maps based on fantasy games with cut scenes and stuff.

Re: [Audyssey] Problems installing Kitchensinc games on Vista machine.

2009-08-03 Thread Thomas Ward

Bryan,
You need to run the setup for each game with admin rights. To do this
arrow to game.exe, press the context key, andown arrow to run as
administrator. Press enter and it should then run the setup correctly.
Alternatively disabling user account control will also fix the problem.
In fact, if you plan to play Jim's games under Vista you'll probably
want to turn off user acount control anyway as it screws up the games
royally. Such as if you want to save a game user account control will
give you an error that the file can't be saved because you do not have
admin rights. I wish Jim could fix this issue, but I understand why he
doesn't. In order to fix that problem he'd have to rewrite his games to
support Vista's new user acccount control.

Smile.

Hi all,
I recently decided to install the Kitchens Inc games on my Windows Vista laptop, and in
the process I've run into a rather strange problem. The Winkit file installed properly
and seems to work properly when I run it. However when I try to install one of the other
games I get the following error message. Can't create output file: c:\program
files\kitchensinc\game name.exe, where Game Name is obviously the name of the game
I tried to install. This has happened for every game I tried to run, the one exception of
course being the game menu itself. I'm wondering what, if anything, I can do about this.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: [Audyssey] possible answer to installing kitchensinc on vista

2009-08-03 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Chastity,
As I mentioned a little earlier there is a simple fix for installing the
games. Simply press the context menu key between the left Windows key
and the left control key, down arrow to run as administrator, and press
enter. The reason Vista gives the error that it does is because user's
have to have administrator rights to install programs, and in addition
they use a non-standard installation. Instead of using an installer such
as Microsoft Setup Installer Jim Kitchen uses a self-extracting zip file
which Vista doesn't particularly like.
As far as compatibility issues I hear you there. There are some issues
with various accessible games do to the fact they aren't 100% Vista
compatible. Most aren't designed for Vista's new user acccount control,
and many are written in Visual Basic 6 which is no longer officially
supported. Which requires the end user to install the missing libraries
and dependencies that no longer ship with Vista and Windows 7
independantly. A person can get the games to run on Vista, but it would
be nice if they all could be upgraded to meet new Windows specs.

Smile.

I would suggest contacting the game maker at his website and mentioning this
to him. There's a possibility he hasn't updated them to work with the new
operating system yet. I've found there are many programs written for XP that
won't work with Vista and same the other way around.

Good luck.

Re: [Audyssey] possible answer to installing kitchensinc on vista

2009-08-03 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Yeah. The best way to make them run on Vista correctly is to open the
control panel, go to users, and disable user acount control, and
restart. After that they will work just as well as they did on Windows XP.

Smile.
