Alright sony and microsoft fanboys... here goes. This game came out about two
weeks ago for the xbl and psn. This is a bit of a retro game, as it is
basically a side-scrolling beat em up. You can jump onto different levels, such
as platforms, trees, and whatnot, but that's not important, only optional. This
game very closely resembles final fight and double dragon. The one gimmic is
that the stages are more like super smash brothers. What does that mean? It
means that when you're in a fight, you're free to move around however much you
want, jump onto any level, whatever, but you can't get past that section until
you beat all the enemies. Then you move to the right and go on. It isn't like a
real side scrolling beat em up where you're actually trying to get somewhere.
As someone put it to me on the gamefaqs boards, It's more like trying to stay
alive than trying to actually get somewhere at the same time as fighting. So
in that respect, it's more like a fighting game. But the bottom line is.. it is
entirely playable. Though this is the one hitch, though players of older beat
em ups should be used to this. There is no blocking, but dodging is done based
off whether the attack is a high one or low one. Thus to dodge you hit the
analogue stick to dodge. Up for lower, down for high. This is difficult to do
without vision, but like I've said, if you liked older beat em ups since there
was no real way to block or dodge without vision either, this is entirely worth
your fifteen bucks. Controlls aren't non-responsive, very nice and tight
actually. More on the game from me soon.. and the last point. Aside from the
main mode, there's also endurance and time trial modes to go through. And...
the one high point that I think I like the most... is online co-op. Finally an
action game which isn't a one on one fighting game where totally blind people
can work together on this. Hope some people decide to get the game... here's a
sample. As this game is trying to simulate a chinese kung fu action movie,
you'll hear all the typicals. Loud thwacks and smacking, and some of the most
ludicrous grunts and yells, as well as, quoted direct from IGN, All the funky
70s tunes.

Re: [Audyssey] super egg hunt

2009-09-06 Thread kev lyon

ok i got it downloaded fine eventually. i now have a problem!
i have loaded it on to both my desktops, identical set ups, win xp home etc.
on one pc it works fine, on the other it doesn't.
all seems well until i start the game, i then get to here the first egg, and
the first clock, but then i cannot hear any more of them. the sound of me
running, and the sound of the chicken is fine, and i get the verbal time
reminders, but i cannot hear another clock or egg. i've tried reinstalling,
redownloading, restarting the pc, and it will not work. yet on the other pc
it works perfectly.

anyone got any clues at all about what is wrong?

[Audyssey] a thought for all game makers out there

2009-09-06 Thread michael barnes
i have thought about game emulater for different kind old video games.
since people can get old video games emulater for free on the web and
download the thing so that they can play their favoret games on the
computer why can't someone convert games like mortal kombat into an
audio game some of you people on this list think that all of us can
have someone come to our home to help us with video games. but some of
us don't have it so easy as others so that why i will always ask for
converted game to audio. so that why i can't play any of the sighted
people games because i live alone and no one will come to my home and
tell me what is on the screen and i don't think we the blind should
remember whats on the screen we should be able to go to the game and
have a voice to tell us what is on the menus and whats our character is
doing and what are surrounding areas is doing aswell. or make some type
of sound

2009-09-06 Thread Bryan Peterson
There's just one problem with that. That would be illegal. You might be able
to get away with creating a game in a similar style as one of your old
favorites, but even that isn't entirely foolproof if the original game's
developer finds out and sees too many similarities. Thomas Ward has personal
experience with some of what can happen if you aren't careful.

And in an ideal world, that would be peachy. However, in the real world,
it's not always possible to have sighted help, so you have to learn to
adapt. One possible solution that might work is to start some kind of
website where people submit descriptions of the layouts of screens for these
games, as well as the actions required to play them without sight. Maybe
something like this already exists, in which case there's no need to
reinvent the wheel. But instead of bemoaning the hopelessness of a
situation, try to find ways to change it. A little proactive creativity can
often go a long way. Smile.

completely agree.
in this case, there's already www.gamefaqs.com
it wasn't designed for the blind, but in a lot of faqs they describe the
menus and other screens.
and as i already sayd, what's the problem in asking here help for
(certain) game that you're having difficulties?

Agreed. Not to mention that as I already said it would be illegal, even if
one could get one's hands on the game's source code, to modify it in the way
a totally blind person would need. And I'm sorry to say, but Ii caught a
distinct whiff of entitlement syndrome in the initial post.

[Audyssey] MOOs and MUD RPG questions

I don't know if anyone plays these kinds of games, but I have a couple of
questions.
I know about vip-mud client and have that installed and know about the
website where there are hundreds of mud games to choose from.
My question is what is a MOO game?
What do I need to run a MOO game?
Is there a site that lists MOO games or does anyone know of any I can try?
Will the MOO games work on mud client or is there a better engine I should
use?

Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone played the browser-based Legendary Tales text RPG games?
It says all I need is a browser that has flash 9 installed and I have that.
However it also calls these games muds, so do I need a mud client to play
