Hello,
Risk seems to be a board game, right ?

If someone can send a complete description of the board and detailled
rules, I might be able to make it for the playroom (without bots of course)
IN that case, I would need very precise things, because I don't know
that game at all.

Thanks for the ideas.

Hi Jim,
A reasonable substitute for a real game board could be a box of cereal
flattened out or glued flat.
Another would be a shoe box but again made flat so you would not get a
hollow sound.

Hi Phil,

Nope, I did not roll the Get Naked Dice on a real game board. I do not
have one. About 22 years ago Chuck and Diana read all of the squares on
the game of Life board to me so that I could make an accessible computer
version. I then gave the game to them for their kids to play. Same with
Monopoly. The only game that I do have is Up Words. They read me each
letter and I put braille Dymo tape on them. So Up Words and a few decks
of braille cards are the only non computer games that I have.

I kind of like dice4.wav, the roll onto the shelf in the dresser drawer.
I think just because the dice roll a bit more. You like the roll into the
Styrofoam and my Aid likes the roll on the marble table top dice1.wav.
They probably would sound good rolled on a real game board. Would
probably end up damaging that board though as the metal corners of the
dice are sharp.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for an accessible version of risk

2012-01-12 Thread QuentinC

Hello,

Scrabble would be perfectly possible, but
1 - I need a dictionnary of words. I have one in french, but I have
nothing in english. Such a dictionnary must contain all plurals and verb
declinations.
2 - I need letter token repartition. At the moment I have that neither
in french nor english.
3 - I need a description of the board, because I don't know where
exactly are the bonus squares. If I have none, I could also consider a
blank 15x15 grid, but that would probably take away a part of fun and
strategy from the game.
4 - What about copyright ? since scrabble is a world-wide registered
game name

When I was partially sighted, I had a physical board, but since I'm
blind, I haven't bough any accessible version. So I can't check myself,
and anyway, I'm even not sure if english board is the same as french one.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for an accessible version of risk

2012-01-12 Thread Milos Przic

Hello Lexi,
I think that it would be better for Quentin to concentrate on the game of
Risk because:
1. We have a hangmane. No an online version, but we have it. And, the replay
value is much less than in Risk.
2. We have scrable to, and we do not! have the risk game. Why would we make
Quentin make something that already exists in some way, as he can do
something completely new, and with that said, have his server more popular?
He already did something noone had done before: he had his server translated
in more than one language, that is already a great thing. So he has more
possibilities than any other developer in our comunity in the field of the
board games and card games.

Also, to add more to this, I have not tested how well Last Week will
play in Adrift 5. Perhaps now is the time to do so. *smile*. In any

Re: [Audyssey] looking for an accessible version of risk

2012-01-12 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi,
Risk is a strategic board game, produced by Parker Brothers (now a division
of Hasbro). It was invented by French film director Albert Lamorisse and
originally released in 1957 as La Conquête du Monde (The Conquest of the
World) in France. Risk is a turn-based game for two to six players. The
standard version is played on a board depicting a political map of the
Earth, divided into forty-two territories, which are grouped into six
continents. The primary object of the game is world domination, or to
occupy every territory on the board and in so doing, eliminate all other
players.[1] Players control armies with which they attempt to capture
territories from other players, with results determined by dice rolls.

Hi Quentin,
I know that with a serbian version of the game there was a manual encluded
in a printed version. Now, having in mind that the game is originally from
France, it is far more easy to find a manual in french than for me to find
it in Serbian.

So, with all encouragements from before, Quentin, good luck! Smile!

Thank you for your encouragements. But there is something very important
to note:
I'm more likely to make scrabble than risk, for a very simple reason: I
have already played scrabble and know how to play, but I have never played
risk.
If I want to developp something I have never pleyed, somebody must send me
all game details: complete rules, but also how very precisely are board,
dice, cards, tokens, etc. It's actually difficult. But not totally
impracticable if I have all the data I need.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for an accessible version of risk

2012-01-12 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

Oh, I've heard Hasbro is rather strict when it comes to their
copyrights. I heard of this case where a guy created an online game of
Scrabble, apparently it was very popular, and even though the guy
wasn't charging for people to play Hasbro took him to court and
legally forced him to shut down the website. Unfortunately, that's
the kind of risk we take when creating accessible versions of games
like Scrabble, Monopoly, Risk, etc because they are copyrighted and if
it comes to their attention they have legal rights to shut any
accessible developer down for copyright infringement. We are just
lucky that the developers we do have haven't been hit with a lawsuit
as it would be their legal right to do so.

Cheers!

Hi Ryan,

Thanks, but I already own a copy of Time of Conflict. Like you I love

the lines of what Jim Kitchen did with Monopoly, Life, and so on.

 Hi,

Well, if anyone has an accessible copy of the rules, IE the manual,
for Risk send it my way. If someone could scan them and send them to
me I might see if I can write a quick and dirty game of Risk for you
 guys.

One of the problems for me is I don't remember all of the rules
exactly, and of course it depends on if you are playing Risk or
Mission Risk. Plus there are a number of variations on the game now
with Star Wars Classic, Star Wars Clone Wars, Transformers, Lord of
the Rings, etc that could be made into audio games. Each of these
specialized boards have extra cards and different maps from Classic
 Risk.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for an accessible version of risk

2012-01-12 Thread QuentinC
I read the wikipedia page and it seems to be perfectly doable for the
playroom. The world map will just have to be arranged so that it goes on
a squared grid.
However, the wikipedia article is of course not precise enough on
certain points. Missing are:
* Exact connections between countries, especially where are links over
oceans
* Exact card contents. As I understood, there are 72 cards in total, one
for each country, 2 jokers and 28 missions. But are unused missions
always in the deck ? It looks strange... because you could guess what is
your opponents' mission. so 28 cards may be unclear.
* Battle rules kept me in doubt: they first say that you can't send
more than 3 attackers against 2 defenders, and further they say that you
can send any attackers as you wish and continue until a region is
totally defeated. I must have missed something.

okay here's what I found works, get a bunch of normal grenades from
the stage 3 shop, rockets for the rocket launcher can help too
the trick I used is when he's right next to you he'll power up and
fire about 10 times, so run past him while he's targeting, turn, press
tab, go to items and que a bunch of grenades
weird thing is they don't actually blow each other up in this game, so
repeat until you're out of grenades, then do the same with the rocket
launcher

[Audyssey] Question about the-Nightjar

2012-01-12 Thread Lori Duncan
Hi I just downloaded The-Nightjar game on my Iphone, but was wondering how to
get passed the level with the drains? I keep walking into walls, and can't
quite figure out how to turn round fully or if I can walk backwoards. I keep
losing the door out of that level and end up being killed eventually. Other
than that I think this game is totally amazing, both sound quality and
voice-overs. Is there an audio tutorial available somewhere?

Thanks from Lori.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for an accessible version of risk

2012-01-12 Thread Laurel
Y'all, let me tell ya. I have no developing knowledge and don't know
how to write games at all. I do know how to play risk, and I love it.
So if any of you developers would be willing to make an accessible
risk version, I would be totally happy to help you in any way that I
could. I would be happy to help you by telling you the rules, how you
play etc. I could test the game for you and help you in that way,
basically, I'm willing to do anything to help. I just want an
accessible version of my favorite game in the world and I would be oh
so happy if somebody would make one for me, and I'd be happy to help
in any way I can. I'd even be willing to skype somebody or something
if they wanted to talk in real time not just by email in order to work
on making the game. I'm desperate lol.
Laurel and Stockard
P.S. maybe I can learn something about game building in the process as
I have ideas for games and just don't know how to make them.

On 1/12/12, QuentinC quent...@cfardel.net wrote:
I must have missed something.

around, starting by finding their way around their house. :)

okay here's what I found works, get a bunch of normal grenades from
the stage 3 shop, rockets for the rocket launcher can help too
the trick I used is when he's right next to you he'll power up and
fire about 10 times, so run past him while he's targeting, turn, press
tab, go to items and que a bunch of grenades
weird thing is they don't actually blow each other up in this game, so
repeat until you're out of grenades, then do the same with the rocket
launcher
hth

Thanks, I love the sounds they use, they should make one where a sighted
player wakes up and realises the whole world is dark, and they have to get
around, starting by finding their way around their house. :) From Lori.

how

the heck are you supposed to kill that end boss? his damage output is
totally ridiculous, and I have to constantly keep using potions. even
with

potions, I eventually run out or die. I must've used like 30 last battle
which is totally crazy. he has so many attacks it's ridiculous. if I'm
close he'll start doing all sorts of deadly things to me, but if I'm far
he'll shoot some junk at me that'll hit me from all across the stupid
screen. plus it's not as if I can hit him 50 feet away anyway. I've used
grens, rocket launcher, spear, pachinco, every stupid weapon I have! but
he! won't! die! does it have like 12 billion hp? sheesh! I'm not even
sure

on what I should be upgrading to be honest. I blew a ton of cash on hp
and

I'm sorta regretting that now lol. gonna coin farm now while I wait for

Re: [Audyssey] alter aeon ip address

2012-01-12 Thread john
My reason for asking (though it's no longer needed) was because
when the dns server was weird, the direct ip would work properly
even if the actual address didn't, (my solution was to get a ping
that looked good and modify the alter aeon file in mushz to point
to that address instead of www.dentinmud.org).

[Audyssey] Trek 2000 Soundpack

2012-01-12 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi all,

As per request here is the USA Games soundpack for Trek 2000. This

[Audyssey] Great Trek 2000 Battle

2012-01-12 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi all,

After I posted the Trek 2000 soundpack I decided to install the game,
and play it with the soundpack. Even after all these years of not
playing Trek 2000 I can say I've still got the touch. That is I'm
still a seriously competent Starfleet commander and all around good
guy.

I started up the game on the Bring Them On level expecting myself to
be a bit rusty. I was, but not enough to effect the outcome of the
war.

I Started out by pulling my fleet together so I could hit the enemy as
a single attack fleet. Unfortunately, that didn't quite happen as I
had intended. It so happened that a Tholian starbase was not more than
10 units from Starbase 2 and three Tholians moved in to position to
hit Starbase 2. U.S.S. Enterprise and Yorktown showed up in time to
keep them from destroying the station and we made short work of the
three Tholian creeps who thought they'd kick off the enemy offensive
by taking out a Federation Starbase.

Enterprise took up station near Starbase 2 while Yorktown started
pumping phasers into the Tholian station. As expected two Tholians
broke off their attack to save the Tholian station which was a faint
on my part. Their mistake. I dropped a mine and warped out of range of
their weapons. A move later both Tholian ships and the station were
turned into space dust.

The third Tholian moved in and attacked Enterprise and hit it with a
Tholian web. Enterprise crippled the ship with 4500 units of phaser
energy, and Yorktown finished him off with another 4000 units or so.

Meanwhile Defiant managed to run head long into the main enemy battle
fleet. Three Romulans, a Tholian, and four Klingon ships. Let's just
say Defiant smoked two of the Romulans, but with that kind of odds
Defiant's days were numbered. The other ships moved in and blew
Defiant to pieces.

Fortunately, Valiant wasn't far away and caught the enemy attack fleet
unaware and blew away a Klingon ship, damaged a second, and one of the
Romulan ships took some minor damage from phaser fire. To finish the
job I dropped a mine and ran back to Starbase 1 for resupplies.

Well, after a move or so the mine went off, destroyed the Romulan,
toasted two Klingons, and damaged the fourth Klingon, the fourth
Romulan, and Tholian. This not only knocked down their forces it gave
Valiant time to reach the Starbase and reload up on energy, photons,
and prepare to meet the battle fleet head on if need be.

Given these odds I dispatched Yorktown to Starbase 1 to back Valiant
up. Unfortunately, it never made it. For reasons unexplained the enemy
fleet didn't chase Valiant to Starbase 1 and chose to intercept
Yorktown as she made her way to Starbase 1. They got in some lucky
shots, and Yorktown died from a well placed ambush. Now, by this time
I'm boiling with a desire for revenge.

I wait on station for the enemy fleet to arrive. Not surprising it was
something of a slaughter. I blew away the last romulan and smoked the
Klingon ship as they came in. I kept my energy levels at maximum
waiting for the final Tholian to fall into my trap. He did.

He trapped Valiant in a web, and knocked her shields down. In return
both Valiant an Starbase 1 opened fire on the Tholian ship. The Tholian
ship blew apart in a spectacular explosion and the war was over.

Oh, I may have been rusty, but I'm still master of the game. In total
it took me 28 moves to grind the enemy fleet down to size and
eliminate all 12 enemy ships and one station. Given a few more moves I
still had enough firepower to smoke some of the other enemy starbases
too. The funny thing is most of the enemies were dispatched and
destroyed by the U.S.S. Valiant. One single ship took out four
Romulans, Four Klingons, and a Tholian ship. Without a doubt that
makes Starfleet the best military fleet in the Alpha Quadrant.

Re: [Audyssey] Great Trek 2000 Battle

2012-01-12 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Yeah, I know. That's truly one of the disadvantages to move based
games like STFC or Trek 2000 is you can fly right into an armada of
enemy ships and get destroyed without even having a chance to fire a
shot. That happened tonight a couple of times and it was extremely
frustrating. Especially, since I was handing their butts to them
whenever I got a real chance to mix it up with the enemy fleets.

My next Star Trek game will be more of a starship sym where you
command a single vessel like the Enterprise and carry out various
missions. Basically, what I am thinking of is something like Lone
Wolf, but with a Star Trek type theme to it. In that way it will be
more like the television series because you might have x number of
missions to select from and play out in real time.

Although, after having played Time of Conflict it would be cool to
actually have a real time strategy Star Trek game where you command
Starfleet and have to build and supply several ships. In a case like
that you would have a variety of classes to build, each with specific
functions, and you'd have to build planetary defenses around the home
worlds of the Federation. You would have to manage fleet deployments
and set up stations where you could easily block an incoming invasion.
It would be very interesting to see a game like that.

Cheers!

Hi Ben,

Destination Mars was originally a DOS game written by Richard De Steno in

Re: [Audyssey] Great Trek 2000 Battle

2012-01-12 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

While a stratogy sim would be fun, indeed if the customizations with the
time of conflict engine which Phil reported come into being it might well be
possible without too much trouble, I personally always felt the real point
of startrek was a single ship flying around in space on their own
encountering the unknown, or at least having to deal with alien powers who
were not particularly human in their outlook or culture. this is why I'd so
love a single ship, lw type of game.

for space war plots, i always thought babylon 5 succeeded far more than even
ds9 did, though that's perhaps a debate for another timme.

Either way, it's the hole boldly going where no one has gone before in
startrek that rather interested me, and I'd love to see a game that
reflected more of that sort of aspect of things.

Beware the grue!

I Agree Haiden, again this is where time of conflict really has the right
idea I think, sinse there you actually need! to go out and fight the enemy
in numerically reasonable forces.

While Trek 2000 was great for being possibly the first audio stratogy game,
i think we've advanced sinse then, especially looking at castaways and time
of conflict.

[Audyssey] Multiple playable characters

2012-01-12 Thread dark
Hi.

Yesterday, as a break from testing Eamon deluxe, I fired up my Snes and had a
less than successful go at Super Mario brothers two, and just to be clear
I don't mean the lost levels.

As people may know, in that game you can choose to play mario, Luiji, Princess
or toad.

It's a fairly simple game, no weapons, no major hp just exploration and a litle
tactical chucking of vedgitables that you find growing all over the place (yes,
it is weerd), yet the four characters are distinctly different.

Toad for instance runs fast, but can't jump particularly high, yet of course
being low to the ground he can very quickly pick up objects and run with them
(very useful on bosses).

Luiji is the highest jumper and is pretty fast, but he's very slow with objects
and also he floats around quite a lot making it very tricky to get him to jump
precisely.

princess isn't great at object grabbing, and her speed is average, but she has
one awsome ability, the ability to hover in mid air and thus get over some of
the mopre dangerous areas. Mario of course is Mr. average (and interestingly
enough, probably imho the worst in the game for that reason).

the reason I mention this is that mario 2 takes several characteristics, jump
hight, jump distance, running speed and object grabbing speed, and alters their
properties so as to create some rather different ways of playing the game. For
instance yesterday I was trying to run through bits with mario that I usually
do with princess, and found I had to be far more precise with my jumps.

In audio games though, it seems that either the characters are customizeable
every way from sunday as in entombed, or there are no characters at all.

while I imagine two reasons for this are A, the difficulty of storing and
activating two sets of movement, damage, or whatever properties in the game,
and B, the extra sound files needed for a second character, I am stil a litle
surprised nobody has included it yet, sinse even when dealing with very few
properties it can make a major difference to the game.

Say for instance in superliam, you could play as either Liam or Dr. Quark.
Quark being an old man is slower at running, jumping and shooting than liam,
but because he is using the latest experimental version of his super suit his
gun is much more powerful (though it fires more slowly), and because his armour
is stronger he has more health.

this would create quite a different game, even with only the reaction based
gameplay, for instance you'd need to be more prcise at jumping cycle bot, and
try to get in your heavy hits now and again where they would count.

The more properties a game has, and the more the gameplay is based on judgement
rather than reaction speed, the more can be played with with different
characters, but even in a comparatively simple game like Superliam it could
make a nice difference to gameplay, and indeed give replayability through
trying to finish the game on the other character.

Beware the grue!

Dark.
