[Audyssey] Chillingham help needed
Okay, I got Chillingham to work on my wife's desktop and not my netbook (don't know why, my netbook has more cpu power and more RAM than the desktop, but whatever) I have gone to all the sites in the town of Chillingham. I have the rope and hook (which are one item now), the bottle, the stakes, a candle, the balloons, the rain dancer's book from the library. I have gone to the swamp and have no problem killing the vamps there, but there are werewolves there which I cannot kill. I have not gotten to the organ (the organ player is still banging on the keys in the church). I have the flowers from the fork in the road. Now I am stuck. I have not opened the back door at the church. Not sure what I am missing. Any help would be appreciated. Re: [Audyssey] SmartEditor. Was: Re: Writing code.
Hi, For what programming language are we talking about? If we are talking about C++ Visual C++ 2008 will do that. If we are talking C# Visual C# 2008 will do that. If Visual Basic visual Basic 2008 will also do that. If you are talking about BGT I don't know of any editors that will do autocomplete etc. On 1/29/12, Il primo cittadino wrote: > Hi all. > Any suggestion for a smart editor that suggest how to complete calls, > functions, methods, event, parameters and so forth, rather > than the Windows standard text editor? > I've tried NotePad++ but Jaws doesn't read the autocomplete suggestions. > Thanks in advance. > Gabriel. > -Messaggio Originale- > Da: "Ben" > A: "'Gamers Discussion list'" > Data invio: domenica 29 gennaio 2012 16.24 > Oggetto: Re: [Audyssey] Writing code. > > >> Just go through the manual step by step and you'll find it. Re: [Audyssey] Asking a gold wave question.
Hi Ron, Yes, but keep in mind mp3s are not a losless format. That means every time you open an mp3, edit it, and then save it you are going to lose some audio quality in the process. If you have access to the game's source it would be better to change the volume via code than the mp3 itself. Re: [Audyssey] Asking a gold wave question.
I would think that if the files play fine outside of the game, the game is making the changes in volume. Also, you might check the license to see if it is legal to change the files included with the game. --- Shepherds are the best beasts, but Labs are a close second. - Original Message - From: "Ron Kolesar" To: "Audyssey" Sent: Sunday, January 29, 2012 9:44 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Asking a gold wave question. Re: [Audyssey] Asking a gold wave question.
Hi Ron, After you load a sound file in goldWave, You should play the sound first then go to effects, then volume. then Maximize Volume. then use the Maximize Volume Then play the file again to tell if there is any change in the volume. You can go above the max volume a bit but the sound tends to distort somewhat if you go too much beyond. Swords and knives mostly. I like them because they're more elegant... an axe is savage and undeniably cool though. lol. [Audyssey] word burst and other puzzles reminder
Hi, word fans, Here it is Sunday again and time to burst some more words and solve some more word puzzles. We now have a permanent new feature to our Sunday evening get-together. After the traditional Word Burst anagram game, There will be about a 15-minute round of quick, little word puzzles. In honor of the new puzzle feature, the theme for tonight's Word Burst is the names of puzzles. Then tonight's quickie puzzles are all about musical instruments. Finally there will be a puzzle you can take a week to solve. Here is last week's puzzle of the week, which some people have already solved. Find the name of a nut, which, when you move each letter down four spaces in the alphabet, will be the name of an animal. Here is an additional clue, which should make the solution easier. The name of the nut is five letters long, and it's not K-A-T-H-Y. Re: [Audyssey] Retro Remakes was game speech
Hi Tom. firstly, not all retroremakes have the original sounds and music. one of my favourites for instance, a game called millenipeed which is obviously a remake of the game centipeed, has modern soundes and music, and it's own graphics. the graphics are simple as compared to modern console games, but certainly far more than what've been possible when centipeed was originally released. It all depends upon how much the individual developer redesignged the game. speaking of redesign, I personally don't think it'd be a case of modifying an existing remake to make it audio accessible, both for strictly programming reasons, and because also the game might need a little rejigging in speed, enemy position etc in order to make a good audio game. For example, in the game ice climbers, you are vertically assending a mountain. You can knock holes in ledges above you by jumping up to hit them, but also have to cope with things like moving ledges. Frequently, you'll have to jump onto one horizontal platform, jump onto another, and then! have to hit blocks above you. This is further complicated by the flying topies (birds), that fly horizontally across. So, in order to calculate your jump you need to considder not just your position, but that of two ledges above you, where the blocks are you can bash out of the way, and whether any toppies are flying around. this is a case where perhaps taking in that much information in audio just would not work as is, so a developer might have to substitute some other challenge, for example having only one moving ledge to jump onto above you, but having some spikes at either side that could kill you if you jumped onto the moving ledge when it was too close to them. Thus, you'd stil need to use your judgement of moving ledge position and your knolidge of game mechanics, but not in a way that would require an overload of audio information. This is why I think if one or other of the retroremakes devs were to work on an audio game, it would have to be a case of doing something from scratch, picking the right game and designing the audio elements to work along with the rest of the game and graphics. Afterall, something like prince of persia would require not too much in the way of alterations to gameplay, just audio kews for pit length, guard attacks etc, ditto with some of the arena based shooters, or games like packman (indeed I personally find packman more fun as an audio game than visually). Re: [Audyssey] medieval weapons
Hi, Yeah, something like that. I'm not an expert on ancient weaponry, but a lot of those weapons and armor, especially the iron weapons, were extremely heavy. Nights, for example, were really too heavy for combat on foot and that's why they rode horses because it was the only way to move a 200 pound man with a good hundred pounds of armor and weapons over the battlefield. You knock him down he is not going to get up unless he is as strong as Hercules. [Audyssey] Retro Remakes was game speech
Hi Dark, Yeah. The only problem we may have in terms of what needs to be done to make some of these retro remakes accessible is the audio environment totally needs to be redesigned for the blind gamer in mind. Here is an example of what I mean. Back in November someone released a free remake of Venture. What the developer did is record all of the original sounds and music from the 1982 arcade game and used them in the remake. That's great if we want the classic arcade sounds etc, but for a totally blind player it doesn't work at all. What we have to do is get rid of the beeps, boops, and other arcade sounds and create a completely new audio atmosphere for the game. The Treasure must jingle and jangle. We need to hear the doors open/close. We need sounds for the little green monsters. We need some kind of sound to play when you get near an ammo pick up. Preferably a different one for the yello, blue, and green arrows. Some footstep sounds would be nice. Then, add SAPI support for the high score notifications, health meter, and things like that. When you get down to it that's quite a lot of work in upgrading it from a simple 2d side-scroller into an audio game. That's where the rubber meets the road. Some of these retro remakes like Venture and Mouse Trap are quite a lot like their Colleco and Atari counterparts including original sounds and music. In order to add accessibility the classic sounds and music needs to be replaced with a more detailed soundscape. I don't know how willing or unwilling the indi developers would be to remove some of the classic sounds and music with newer sounds for accessibility sake. On 1/29/12, dark wrote: > Hi Tom. > > That would be a good idea, particularly if perhaps either yourself or > someone else could create an audio remake of a classic game. That would be about right. And as to the 20 kg sword, I think he said only the strongest men could do that.. otherwise it was a two-handed weapon. Re: [Audyssey] game speech
Hi Tom. That would be a good idea, particularly if perhaps either yourself or someone else could create an audio remake of a classic game. Packman talks would indeed be perfect, accept that retroremakes only allows free games. Most indi devs I've spoken to are very open about access, eindeed even now in the news Eamon deluxe is having a ful blind compatibility mode created, with better menues, mmore explanations of text etc (we've sadly not found a way around the dosbox problem yet unfortunately, but the developer is stil doing a very good job), and also niels bauer is working on a compatibility mode for Smugglers 5. Neither of these devs would be doing anything access wise if it weren't for discussions. Most indi devs of actual graphical games I've spoken to, while great as regards low vision access (I've often got good things like menue explanations or settings in a screen reader friendly conf file, or indeed in one case an entire low vision setting), don't really know about audio games very much, so don't really attempt anything with sound. i deffinately think this is a case where education would be very helpful, as well as an audio remake of a well known classic mainstream game that they could play to get familiar with how audio games work. Wizard chess? Who commands the chessmen? How much space does the board take? What happens when a capture is made? And is there a lot of taunting going on between the two opposing players, their own armies of men giving them advice, and the two armies as they are moving or waiting to be moved? This sounds like it would be fun for chess enthusiasts to watch. --- Shepherds are the best beasts, but Labs are a close second. - Original Message - From: "Jim Kitchen" To: "Ron Schamerhorn" Sent: Sunday, January 29, 2012 7:22 AM Subject: [Audyssey] medieval faire Hi Ron, The medieval faire here is in the middle of the woods, so is always during the summer. Hi Johnny, May I ask, did you just happen to have metal spiked balls hanging around? Or what did you attach to the end of the chain or chains on the flail that you made. I believe that this two ball flail was the first like that that I have seen. Seems like some have just one very large spiked metal ball at the end of a chain. BTW my Niece was going to buy a flail as well, but then she saw brass knuckles with a built in switch blade. Mom wouldn't let her buy those though. I could see her getting kicked out of school for having them on her. I don't think that a, lets see what concealed weapon I can carry into school, would be a good game.
