I got a similar error, but, on the download page, they also offer the download
for the visual C runtime, and installing that sorted it out for me:

[Audyssey] BGT help me please: sound objects array.

2013-02-12 Thread Gabriel Battaglia (Kriyaban)

Hi dear all.

Could you please help me to fix this error?

This is just a small example that reproduce it.

tone_synth[] synth(2);
void main()
{
synth[0].waveform_type=3;
synth[1].waveform_type=3;
synth[0].note_ms(C4,130);
synth[1].note_ms(C6,130);
//Error in the following line
sound@ tasto[0] = synth[0].write_wave_sound();
sound@ tasto[1] = synth[1].write_wave_sound();
tasto[0].play_wait();
tasto[1].play_wait();
}

The interpreter says:
File: [...]
On line: 3 (1)
Information: Compiling void main()

File: [...]
On line: 9 (7)
Line:  sound@ tasto[0] = synth[0].write_wave_sound();
Error: Expected ';'

File: [...]
On line: 10 (7)
Line:  sound@ tasto[1] = synth[1].write_wave_sound();
Error: Expected ';'

I can't understand why it is not allow to use indexes in this sort of assignement. If I erase the [0] and [1] indexes, the script
runs correctly.

Thanks for your appreciated help.
Gabriel.

Re: [Audyssey] Games effect on the visual systems

2013-02-12 Thread Dakotah Rickard
Speaking as a psychologist, in training at least, the auditory and
visual cortical material are very similar in structure and are located
close by one another.
When the visual cortex is inactive but the auditory cortex is active,
it begins encroaching on the visual cortex and using its neural
material for processing and storage, and vice versa, which makes the
old myth, by th way, quite true. If you can hear but can't see, your
hearing gets better. Technically, it isn't actually better, just more
fluid in its processing. and of course, if you can't hear but can see,
your sight gets more processing power in the same way.

Theoretically, games that rely on specific information in an audio
medium might activate sectors of visual cortex reserved for auditory
processing, but I don't think that the information is specifically
related. Rather, I think that both interact with your kenesthetic
sense, the sense that tells you where you are in space, and your
spatial sense, the sense that allows you to orient yourself and other
objects.

THe 3d sounds idea would be a tremendous asset to games, both audio
and video, as well. Right now, it's a tremendously complicated system,
but given that it provides full location data with only two speakers,
it would be highly awesome to find. Imagine being able to fully play
in 3d in an auditory format without beeps or weird effects to tell you
someone or something is above you. Imagine how realistic the game
audio for everyone would become!

 Hello,
 I am not sure if this is completely game-related, but I guess this is in
 a way, since the way the game is built might have an effect.
 Recently I was involved in a heavy discussion on visual cortex
 stimulation, and I was wondering if stereo-panning within games in
 three-D could actually evoke the visual representation that an object is
 to the left, at around sixty degrees, five feet away from you.
 In audio games, we generally pan sounds to have blind people train each
 side of their ear to follow the source of the sound, whereas in video
 games, the object tends to flash on a certain area of the screen. So I
 am wondering if there is somewhat of a connection between the awakening
 of the visual system and just playing stereo-related games without
 realizing that there is more behind it.

whether playing or creating a map it is a blast.

Unfortunately, you have to download the whole game over again. With the maps
included it can be a bit big.
Perhaps I could pull my map packs out of the one I downloaded and I can post
the link to the new release from send space, it would be a smaller download
I imagine. Let me know if you want me to do that.

The email list Ian set up is also a good place to start for map creation.
Everyone is pretty helpful, and Ian does a lot of developing in between
releases that gets playtested and the like.

That's why I brought up the patching console games thing. Sure implementing
accessibility might not cost 4 dollars... well then again it might

Hi Clement,

Couldn't agree with you more. Regardless how bogus or not cost verses
benefit is perceived to be its still a driving force regardless what
any of us might think. If a company does not think adding feature x is
in their best interests long term they aren't going to do it out of
the goodness of their hearts, for ethical reasons, or because they
want to show equality to their fellow man. The cold truth is we live
in a capitalist society, at least most of us do, and in that type of
economic system making money is the bottom line. Regardless of what a
non-programmer might think adding accessibility does cost money, and
for a company all they care about is the cost of developing the
accessibility verses how much adding that accessibility will net them
if added. In short, what's in it for them?

Re: [Audyssey] Tactical Battles 1.12 release update

2013-02-12 Thread Allan Thompson
Hi Paul,
Correct, I got one in there. It is called One shot wonders/zombie house. One
shot wonders is is a joke since it only uses the one zombie house map. Most
campaigns feature more then one.

I based the map very loosely on the old black and white romero classic, the
night of the living dead.
The plot is simple. Some satellite falls to earth and starts emitting wacky
zombie creating radiation. Hence forth, the world is plagued by brain eating
undead.

You play the survivors, four pros with guns, and about eight or nine generic
survivors who have to search around for items to help them fight off the
zombie horde. Also there is a house in the middile of the map which can be
used to hold off the horde...for a little while anyway.
I hope you enjoy it.
Also be sure to check out the others maps as well, on the web site are map
packs that are works in progress, but feature everything from fantasy,
spaceships to christmas themes.
Also if you have any suggestions or thoughts or complaints about any maps I
make let me know. I am always willing to make the maps I make better.

Honestly, the only thing I don't know how to do is to start an organization.
Literally, that's it. I know pretty much anything else, but I don't know how
to actually start a recognized force, rather than something like a group of
like-minded people. I dont know what rules apply to organizations,
non-proffits, and the like. If we raise money, which we'll need to do, then
what taxes apply?
What if people from different countries want to join up? I don't know how to
figure this stuff out, because Google is so rediculously full of
information, too much so.

Re: [Audyssey] Tactical Battles 1.12 release update

2013-02-12 Thread shaun everiss

well paul, a lot was cut out.
The story was rather long and rambly and while I'd have liked it to
go on for ever there were a lot of maps that were not so much crap
but were things that I had issues finnishing.
in the end though I think the story as allan had it was a bit jumpy
after the resistance map, trying to jump to new bits sounded good but
the arc was far to long at least for a beginner map.

I think allan burned himself on that.
I suggested he put the story to how he had it a few versions ago
where it was basically almost finnished.

I do look foreward to future arcs though.
I do miss the juggernaughts but to be frank it would have never
worked unless the borg were made so unbeatable that you would always
loose in the resistance map.
sadly not all maps after resistance were completed or at least in the
versions I had on my drive.
the moment and time and icaris maps were good but broke just about
all maps or at least the last map before total war, maybe they could
have gone after resistance but then its a bit odd.

not sure where they would have fitted.
To be honest I'd have killed the liron map and the training maps as I
was never able to complete them but thats just me.
I guess I should try to write some better maps but to be honest I
have several offline issues I need to sort out health wise and I have
a couple other things not to mention its update week or whatever this
week maybe next to who knows.
If and when I manage to get a few days or a week or two where I have
nothing at all to do bar sleep I may actually decide to do something.

Trouble is when I hit one of those weeks I have no energy to do anything.

Hi Paul,
I am glad you like the game. I just build maps here and there myself but
whether playing or creating a map it is a blast.

2013-02-12 Thread Dakotah Rickard
I'll look into it. It's something I feel pretty passionate about.

I feel that the entire face of what we ask for in accessibility is
wrong. Right now, we aren't getting any of it, because we're taking
the wrong path. I really want to push this, if I can just figure out
how.

   I don't know if my other email got sent out on this topic. but I
 totally agry with you, and you may not know how to but with all the blind
 people out there, there is someone who does. Its just a matter of finding
 the people out there. If you are interested init, I goto classes at The
 Lighthouse For The Blind. I can ask around there. I know there would be
 some
 people there that would like to get involved in something like this. I know
 I would. I would just need the back to get started.
