Re: [Audyssey] Doctor Who 50th anniversary
Hi: It strikes me that for Dr. Who a classic interactive fiction language like AGT, Inform, or Tads is just what the doctor ordered. Lol! Seriously though, I do believe writing an interactive fiction title is best for that type of genre. From what I have seen Dr. Who isn't something that could easily be made into a side-scroller or FPS game and would be more puzzle oriented. Dr. Who has always been more about brains over brawn. Re: [Audyssey] Hack and Other Simple Games
Hay Tom that's fair enough, and as a fan of games like Eamon I can't complain at symple, especially if you plan to expand it later as indeed Eamon got expanded by several authors who played with the system. I myself like the robot idea, just because robot battles is a fairly unique concept as it is. After all there are games like Epical gladiators on the Iphone that deal with basic turn based combat between warriors even now, but I've yet to see a robot one and reading attack descriptions or upgrade descriptions in such a game could be amusing. Assuming I even write said game in the first place. By simple I mean keep it simple stupid as it gets. Basically, something I could conceivably write in a couple of weeks of free time. To give you an idea of where I am at in the thought process I downloaded the new Hack game for Windows from Audiogames.net, and well, thought I could write something simple like that too. Just something to create that would be a great little time waster, something that would keep my mind off my troubles, not take weeks and weeks of time to develop, and in the end just be something to play around with.. I do not want complex or in depth here. I suspect to some the game may sound lame, even a bit boring, but there are times where simple is fun too. That said, I can not go back and expand the game at a later time. In fact, I may very well do that. I would just create a very basic game now, and expand it when I have time to add something more complex. Same goes for things like sounds and music. Cheers! On 11/24/13, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi Tom. I agree on your skills ideas and varieties of upgrades, whether warriors or robots, but I was also thinking in terms of what was actually happening in! battle, so that when fighting the player actually had different options to choose than just hitting the attack button over again. So just to take a simple example, rather than just role dice with all correct weaponry skills and do damage accordingly, have a number of defensive styles to choose before using each attack which can be used a limited number of times in the fight. Lets say for example, you see your opponent is using a dodge defense. well your obviously going to want a wide slash to be more likely to hit, so you might choose to hack with your sword. On the other hand, if your fighting someone with a sword and shield who chooses to block with their shield, well hacking away won't do much good so you might decide to try striking at their legs and putting them offbalance, so you'd choose an unbalancing attack which would make your next attack stronger. thinking of a fighting game this way, asmore of a card game where you choose to play different cards from your hand according to your oponent's stratogy rather than a dice game of who can roll the highest would make for a much more intereactive game, and also something where the randomness of the opponents you fight makes a major difference. of course this is just a suggestion and there are doubltess other possible systems, but I will confess it is one of the things that irritates me in so many rpg games, whether browser based, old text based ones or even simple battle affairs like Hack or tournament from bpc that basically all the stratogy comes from what stuff you buy or train with experience, and none is applied in the actual fight itself. After all in a real! fight, it's far more likely to be the person with the better stratogy, experience and instincts who wins, not just the one with the best equipment or the biggest muscles for all both are important. all the best, Dark. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Well less so in the new series, now it's more like schmultz over brawn but that is another story, :D. Actually there have been occasions where the Doctor used force, especially in the third encarnation who was a fan of both venusian akaido and also regularly got involved in car chases and other shenanigans. I could see myself an action game set in the whoniverse, but you probably wouldn't be playing as the Doctor himself, just say as someone from unit fighting off an alien threat, or a soldier in one of the innumerable dalek or cyber wars. [Audyssey] Doctor Who: Legacy mobile game
Hi Folks, Now don't go crazy, this game is probably not blind friendly but at least it's free to try out. Doctor Who Legacy mobile game due out this week and it sounds epic By Alistair McGeorge 26 November 2013 Join forces with your own team of allies from the sci-fi favourite in this new puzzle-based game that brings the Time Lord's world to life Doctor Who: Legacy should be an epic game exploring the show's past BBC We'll admit to being on a bit of a Doctor Who comedown after the excitement that was The Day of the Doctor. From surprise cameos to a cracking story, the dust is starting to settle and we're now looking ahead to the Christmas special. Never fear - Time Lord-related fun never seems to be far away at the moment, and Doctor Who: Legacy will keep you occupied until Matt Smith's festive farewell. The puzzle adventure game will be released on iOS and Android mobiles on November 27 and - here's the best bit - it will be totally free! Players will be able to build their own teams of companions and allies as they face off against enemies in various scenarios from the show's past. Lee Cummings, creative director of developer Tiny Rebel Games, said: The 11th (or is it 12th?) Doctor's regeneration is approaching fast. With decades of epic adventures to draw from, Doctor Who: Legacy is a loving homage created by loyal Whovians, and is rich in the show's creative legacy and fun. Combining is easy to learn, hard to master mechanics with beloved characters and cunning villains, Doctor Who: Legacy will be a treat for fans, casual players and even the most hard-core gamers alike. The game will launch with episodes and characters from the two most recent series of the show, while Matt Smith's debut in 2010's season five will be released - again for free - in the New Year as future updates go backwards throughout the programme's 50 years. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Change Reaction2 and Silver Dollar from Draconis Entertainment.
Hello everyone, this is Gary Price here. Please can anyone try and install if they have these: Change Reaction version2 and Silver Dollar from Draconis Entertainment on Windows8.1? You should receive the following message, which is what I'm getting: Change Reaction Setup requires Microsoft .net Framework2.0 client Profile. Please use Windows Update to get this version, then re-run the Change reaction setup program. OK button. Now thanks to a standalone installer I downloaded for .net framework, I found out that its already built into Windows8.1 If anyone else can duplicate, can you report it? I have done this but had no response. Thanks very much I look forward to any responses. Regards. Gary Price. -- Gary Price Sent from Thunderbird on desktop. Hi Shaun, I do remember One Must Fall, but that isn't quite what I had in mind. If memory serves me One Must Fall was sort of an action arcade game where I was thinking more in terms of a turn based text game. Not really an action arcade title. Re: [Audyssey] Hack and Other Simple Games
Hi Dark, To be honest the idea of a robot combat game has been floating around in my brain for a while. My son likes an older cartoon that involves a number of robots in one of the episodes the main robot character must enter a tournament in order to fulfill his quest so it involves several rounds where each robot warrior gets various upgrades and of course the main character ends up winning. I thought at the time that it would make a cool game. The idea is generic enough that no copyrights would be involved in creating a game involving some sort of robot tournament. Plus as far as simple rollplaying games goes it is easy to do since robots are easier to upgrade than actual people characters. Cheers! On 11/26/13, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hay Tom that's fair enough, and as a fan of games like Eamon I can't complain at symple, especially if you plan to expand it later as indeed Eamon got expanded by several authors who played with the system. Re: [Audyssey] Doctor Who 50th anniversary
Hi Dark: Well, I was thinking more of Dr. Who as a whole rather than any individual doctor, and it seems to me most of the doctors preferred to out whit an opponent rather than have a face to face confrontation with them. That said, I'll admit I am not as familiar with Dr. Who as other science fiction series. For one reason on this side of the Atlantic Dr. Who has never really caught on with the public the way something like Star Trek or Star Wars has. Another is that for most of its 50 year run Dr. Who has usually been relegated to late nights, and until very recently wasn't shown during prime time. As a result of the late hour people who worked, went to school, whatever didn't watch the show much. For example, I can remember being around age 7 the first time I found out about Dr. Who. At that time Dr. Who was being played by Tom Baker, but the show didn't come on until 11:00 PM which was far passed my bed time. Anyway, about that time I went into the hospital for one of many surgeries, and per usual hospital routine the nurses kept coming into my room, waking me up, and taking my blood and other vitals. So to keep me occupied they turned on the TV in my room and Dr. Who happened to be on. Up until that point I had never seen the show before because 11:00 at night was far passed my usual bedtime. I watched the program, and for a while I use to ask my dad to tape it on our VCR, and that is how I came to know about Dr. Who. The point being is Dr. Who for many years was treated more or less as late night programming so never grabbed the public interest as much as some other science fiction series. Star Trek Next Generation, Deep Space 9, and Voyager all got prime time programming spots, and could be seen by anyone going to school or worked a regular day time job, and did not have to stay up until late night to see it. Same could be said for Quantum Leap, Babylon 5, and several other well known science fiction series. Once the Sci-Fi channel picked up this latest Dr. Who series they put it on at a more regular hour, and I have been able to get into it more than the older series on account of some decent scheduling. Anyway, as far as a game while I could see a game set in the Dr. Who universe as someone else it isn't the same not being the doctor himself. After all, for me being the main character would be the main draw of the game. Of course, that might just be me. Cheers! On 11/26/13, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Well less so in the new series, now it's more like schmultz over brawn but that is another story, :D. Re: [Audyssey] Hack and Other Simple Games
Hi Tom. I wouldn't describe one must fall as arcade. Stratogy could get quite complex as 2d beatemups goas I said, and then you did have money and buying upgrades, but I do see your point that you planned this as a turn based game, though if you were considdering having gears or mechs as they're sometimes called, ie, giant humanoid fighting robots in the tournament instead of just robots with memory of the sort one must fall used that could give another dimention, since your pilot would be a separate chracter to your robot.
