To be honest I do not agree that its all bad.
True expect a bit of bad press everyone should expect some everyone has their
critics.
If you are getting to much then somewhere along the line you have an issue,
now I realise it may not be that obvious but still to say there is to much
bad comments is really not correct.

Regardless of whether this community suffers from groupthink or
fragmentation, this is not the conclusion I would make. We got more
useful, constructive feedback (both positive and negative) as well as
community contributions from our own lists, all while we were being flamed
to death here.

I realise you may need to waid through a bit but thats life.

I'd much rather cater to the users that were open to our design
philosophy. We already knew we weren't going to be favoured by some here,
but that was fine by us -- some of the choices we made were necessary
evils and we felt that we'd be getting a lot more by improving what we
had. Which we did, and I think it paid off. Others disagree, of course,
and that's fine too.

What is not fine is reading lots of email from people who were unwilling
to even _try_ to understand what was going on, but instead bashed the game
purely because it did not meet their immediate expectations. Far from
being as objective as possible, many simply complained that the game did
not work in exactly the way that they thought an audio game should.
Rather than try to accommodate the way that the game worked and understand
how it could be enjoyed -- and I recognise that this was quite difficult
-- they simply condemned it in its entirety.

To be honest, in some ways I fear that new up-and-coming developers will
find this forum before they develop their game, or will be so absolutely
discouraged by some of the behaviour here, that I hope that they finish
their games before they find this and similar venues to announce it in.
I completely understand that people have expectations based on past,
well-developed games, and we should certainly not put up with anything
that is less than perfect simply because it is trivial to exploit our
disability, but frankly there is an abundance of unreasonable, ungrateful
people in the community who simply will not acknowledge anything that they
do not immediately approve of, and instead generalise the developers and
their games as crap. This is a great shame, since it perpetuates a
stereotype about entitlement among the blind, as well as hurting our
chances of more mainstream advancement.

If its broke I have not been affraid to say it and where it is and what may
be wrong.

Absolutely, and it pays to do that. Devs want to know how things can be
better, and why. This is important. However, you must show some respect
for the developer; it isn't all about you. Ask for features, and do not
demand them. Likewise, a good dev will listen and not fail to acknowledge
the facts.

All I am saying as devs and users need to have some flexability with this
sort of thing.

Well, yes. Sadly it doesn't quite seem to work like that with some in
this community. :(

I agree, flaming for no reason but to get noticed is really bad form however
at the same time saying everything is fine because you are to scared to
actually say it isn't is not good.

Flaming to get attention is generally trolling of one kind or another and
can generally be spotted easily.

There is no need to be scared of the developer if all you intend to give
is constructive criticism. Even if the dev is in good standing, politely
pointing out any flaws is nothing to be ashamed of. Perhaps you should
think twice before making controversial statements, though.

I strongly feel that more people need to say what is not good rather than
saying its all fine and expecting it to be fine when its not.

Well, depends on what you mean by What is not good. If meaningless
attacks on the dev and games is what you mean, then no, I think we can
have less of that, thankyouverymuch. Otherwise, agreed.

Cheers,
Sabahattin

New character creation is pretty simple. Once you're on the mud, wait for it to tell you your client information, and then just enter a name. When it asks you to confirm, say yes. After that, just follow the prompts. If the mud aks for a password,
the name you entered is already chosen. Press control shift k, and reconnect.

Re: [Audyssey] wayfar mud

2014-03-11 Thread dark

Hi Darren.

Using the tools is easy when you get the knack.

Use list basic to get a list of what the tool can make, (having the
singlecolumn prefs set to on should help with this).

To view the requirements for something, type view x on tool, eg, view soup
on basic. This will tell you what is required.

To make something it's make x on tool, eg make soup on basic. The tool will
then load the blueprint, and you'll be asked to add resources from your
inventory. You can select or just write all to add the best quality
resources.

If you don't have enough of a resource the plan will exit.

Once you've added all the resources you can type start basic to begin
crafting, though again if you go into the prefs gameplay behaviour you can
also set the build to start automatically when you've added all the
resources to it (I've done this myself).

Re: [Audyssey] Cyber Assault Recording

Unfortunately muds aren't really as recordable as games. There's nothing uniform about them; screen reader speed, type and voice will all affect the recording. Not to mention all the different setups people will have to gag text, modify it, and
generally make the mud play the way they want it to. If you have something specific you'd like to see a recording of, let me know what you're using for speech (voice/speed) and I can try to tape it. That said, I really do mean specific; just saying
can you tape the combat system is to variable for me to work with unless I spend hours to explain both the combat system and my particular setup (which is hugely different from the defaults).

Hi Darren.

When you harvest resources, they go directly into your inventory. It's not
like Ce whereextractrs themselves get full.

using the I for inventory command you will be told the relative weights of
what you carry vs the total weight you can carry, and really it's surprising
how much you can! carry, albeit you canmake various things to hold exess
resources as well (my last project was building a small warehouse exactly
for this purpose).

If your inventory gets full your just told as much and can't harvest

Hi darren.

As I believe I said earlier, jobs, or at least the ones with the job command
are sort of like awards or challenges you can do each day to earn some
skillpoin, for example the leafeater job I discovered when I first killed
a herbivore, while the armor crafter job I found when I first made some
armor.

type jobs to see a list of jobs you've unlocked, and job then the name to

The terminal is used to buy things you don't find on the surface, yeah.
It'll take a while for the shuttle to drop them off, at which point you
can

collect terminal, to get them. That's where I got my rifle kit. Selling,
as far as I know, can be done more or less anywhere, though I haven't
experimented much with this.

Yes, there are a few commands you ned for the tool.
list tool will tell you what it can produce, sorted into a bunch of
categories.
view thing on tool will tell you what the thing you want to be produced
will need, e.g. view colonial rifle on tool.
craft thing with tool will begin loading the tool with resources to

produce

something. You'll have to select items to load based on quality, or just
type all, to automatically take the highest quality of anything you

have.

Start tool will actually start the crafting process, which can take a

minute

or more.
If I might make a suggestion, a prefab housing kit is a great place to
start.
Hope this helps,
Zack.

Hi,
The minerals and other things you harvest aren't actually stored in
your collector, they're put directly in your inventory. You can check
it from time to time to get an idea of how you're doing.
My most recent accomplishment has been crafting a rifle and ammunition
for it. The bulk of the rifle came from a kit, but still. I finally
figured out that the different collectors are useful to harvest
different types of resources, though I guess it should have been
pretty obvious. :) Enjoy, Zack.

Loaded question. It depends on the mission, whether or not your on multiplayer, if you have people to help you, how you like to play, so many different variables. What I will say is this: firstly, you really want a doctor asap. They're incredibly
important. Personally, I always choose the strong start perk, so I get my storehouse built faster, or the defender, if I know that I will need a knight really quickly. If you want to experiment, play with the sandbox mode and figure out how you like
to play the game.

One arguable piece of advice: don't forget that 10 people doing the
same job for a small period of time can really help you.

Hi Paul.

Nope, it seemed a pretty continous monster slay grinder I'm afraid.

The title is a little weerd, sinse when I looked on the ap store it ws
called rpg quest, but when I looked on my perchiced menue it was called rpg
text adventure.

Either way the developer is frocco inc and the game is free.

As Dentin stated earlier, MushZ is specific made for AA mud, so it's
unlikely to work well with any other mud without heavy customization. So
yes, you probably have to make your own soundpack and talor it to your

Well I'm still a newbie myself so I'm not absolutely sure, though I have
seen a building called a sector center or something like that listed on the
structure tool which might have something to do with population.

I decided to build all of the things that would let me build more stuff, so
started building various tools, and then a factory and a warehouse. I also
got the improvisation skill to let me access more stuff, and as I'm
 playing
a ranger background have made myself a pretty good weapon and some armor so
I can kill the critters on the planet's surface.

I think it's one of these games where general expantion is the key. I just
hope some idiot other player won't turn up and blow my colony up for no
reason, that will be the day I stop playing.

is fine to use, it's got some recommendations for that on the site, though I

Mush-z yes, mushclient, no. As I said earlier, mushclient is like the os,
mush-z is the software. In order to make mushclient work with nvda, you need to
import the mushreader plugin. Go to file, plugins, add, and select mush_reader.

No, no soundpacks.

In fairness alter is the exception rather than the rule in terms of someone
building such a massive custom pack for it. Some muds like materiamagica and
medevia have a fewsounds you can download from their websites but these are
inteded just as some extra atmosphere and only give the odd sound for
events, rather than replacing in game text events with sounds and making
sound a major part of the experiences as the alter pack done. effecitvely
what oriol has done for alter is create a virtually custom client that
actually changes the game experience significantly, to the point where I'd
no longer considder alter just a basic textual game.

This of course is open to anyone to do with vipmud or other client scripts,
but it'd be a massive amount of work.

but it'd be a massive amount of work.

 No, no soundpacks.

In fairness alter is the exception rather than the rule in terms of someone
building such a massive custom pack for it. Some muds like materiamagica
 and
medevia have a fewsounds you can download from their websites but these are
inteded just as some extra atmosphere and only give the odd sound for
events, rather than replacing in game text events with sounds and making
sound a major part of the experiences as the alter pack done. effecitvely
what oriol has done for alter is create a virtually custom client that
actually changes the game experience significantly, to the point where I'd
no longer considder alter just a basic textual game.

This of course is open to anyone to do with vipmud or other client scripts,
but it'd be a massive amount of work.
