Well, Blindside kind of relates to orientation and mobility. The premise is 
that something has caused everyone to go blind and the main character goes out 
to investigate, crossing the street with a subway train stopped in the middle 
of it and finding his way around the university science building where he 
teaches in order to get various tasks done. I won't elaborate, but these tasks 
directly relate to the game plot.

I don't know if The curb Game is still available. I think it was on audiogames, 
so you'll have to wait for that to come back online. You have to make your way 
across a street, and it gets faster and more tricky as time goes by.

Of course there's my favorite game of all time, Terraformers. You are on a 
deserted planet with rogue robots and you have to find computer parts hidden in 
various places, all the while keeping track of the locations of power stations 
to give your spacesuit more juice.

Unfortunately the training is basically level 0. If you look at the 
coordinates you can even see that the training rooms are built on the same 
map, despite the fact that the training is supposed to be in some sort of 
base somewhere else where as obviously the game is on planet telos 2. Still, 
it seems from an architectural sense everything is on the one map.


Terraformers had some irritating elements like the inability to sidestep, 
the slow walking speed, very easy to defeat enemies, and very predictable 
layout for each level, but I do love the atmosphere and over all feeling of 
the game, from the very complete and atmospheric sounds and room 
descriptions to some of the puzzle ideas, to the continuing plot about the 
main computer.


I do hope Thomas Westin will make further games in the future. He did hint 
as much when he made terraformers freeware in 2011, but we've not heard 
anything sinse unfortunately.


Btw, if anyone else is a Dr. who fan has played Terraformers, anyone 
wondered where the cybermen are if this is supposedly Telos 2? Does make you 
wonder a bit about those robots :D.

It's the very fact that you can't!  efficiently kill the temporal 
disturbance that mkes it challenging and difficult to get round. Personaly I 
like that David included such a unique enemy which keeps the player on their 
toes and means you can't just go through blasting everything that moves but 
need some stratogy as well. Indeed I'm looking forward to seeing what 
monsters or traps David includes in shades of doom 2.0.

 Terraformers had some irritating elements like the inability to sidestep,
 the slow walking speed, very easy to defeat enemies, and very predictable
 layout for each level, but I do love the atmosphere and over all feeling of
 
 the game, from the very complete and atmospheric sounds and room
 descriptions to some of the puzzle ideas, to the continuing plot about the
 main computer.
 
 I do hope Thomas Westin will make further games in the future. He did hint
 as much when he made terraformers freeware in 2011, but we've not heard
 anything sinse unfortunately.
 
 Btw, if anyone else is a Dr. who fan has played Terraformers, anyone
 wondered where the cybermen are if this is supposedly Telos 2? Does make you
 
 wonder a bit about those robots :D.

Hi,

Same here. One reason I think Shades of Doom is one of my favorite
games is precisely because David Greenwood added such challenges to
the game. You can't just blast or blow up everything in sight. Certain
challenges like the temporal disturbances require an element of
strategy to get around, and if you get transported somewhere else you
have to use your head to figure out where you got transported to and
figure out your way back. Its not really a big deal, and although it
can be annoying at times its all in good fun.

Wrong game. Roadsplat was a game written in BGT by Oriol Gomez. It was
somewhat popular a couple of years ago. I havent' heard much about it
in the last year or so though.

in time, which as you imagine to a doctor who fan like myself is quite a 
familiar idea :D.


I do however wonder Bryan, what on earth is your signature? I don't know 
what buella means, I imagine like some of your previous sigs it refers to 
something, but this time I don't get it, indeed I thought for a while it was 
an evil villain laugh like buahaha, but when I looked at the spelling that 
didn't seem likely.

Well one suggestion I made to Thomas Westin was simply to vary the layout, 
so that instead of putting say a sound flower and the correct tone wheels in 
the same room, you'd need to find the flower, reccord it's sound (or take it 
with you), then find what wheels it corresponds to.


that would much increase the  challenge, and also the enjoyment of exploring 
of the game simply by removing the predictable layout of the levels, sinse 
there's nothing like a good atmospheric maze, (as indeed happens in shades 
of doom).


Another fps exploration game similar to terraformers focused more on the 
exploration of the levels and solving little puzzles to progress than  moing 
down hoards of enemies might actually be a nice change, though of course 
it'd need good atmosphere and ongoing plot otherwise it'd be too dull and 
uniform.


maybe something forr people to think about with the swamp campeign editer, 
indeed thinking of swamp who wouldn't like to see an audio version of 
resident evil? ie, puzzles involving object use, an ongoing horror plot with 
intreague, a mind gnummingly creepy  atmosphere, and a situation where even 
one lone zombie is a really serious threat.


I'm actually fairly sure someone could do something along these lines with 
the swamp editer already sinse last I checked keys and doors were possible, 
though altering the game mechanics from guns blazing fps to realistically 
out of their depth and very edible humans in serious survival horror might 
be a more difficult proposition.

FerrisBueller's Day Off. Ferris Bueller was an American High School student 
with a propensity for skipping whenever he felt like it. My signature is 
actually a pretty famous line fromthat film, spoken by the principal of the 
school. he was played by actor Ben Stein who apart from having a fairly deep 
voice is known for speaking in a sort of deadpan monotone.

I Agree lori.

I've actually got an archive of all Raul's recordings just because they're 
so good, it would be great to hear some more.


the only one I found less useful was his lone wolf walkthrough, sinse when i 
tried using the depth gun like him I ended up in severe trouble spinning 
round and around in circles, it might have been nice if he said a little 
more about firing solutions for people who aren't as precise with their 
targitting as him.

I must confess I'd appreciate some tips on Toc 2.0 myself.

I managed 1.0 but I just don't get the thing about the time intervals or 
what units go when, which means whenever I start playing everything starts

roadsplat being popular but I never got around to playing it sinse the time

Well I thought I was fairly good on films (at least of the 80's and 90's), 
but I've never heard of this Feris Bueller at all.


It's possible that it either didn't get a big release over here, or that it 
rarely got shown on british tv, which is how I first saw a lot of films from 
the early 80's, including most of the original startrek films, both Gremlins 
films and lots of action films like Robocop and Terminator (sinse obviously 
I was too young to watch them when they were first out).

If your mind isn't strategically oriented, I doubt that a walk through would 
help.  It would be like trying to show someone, audibly, how to play chess, 
and no two games are alike.  If you memorize how to avoid a situation, it 
might not come up again, and you cannot memorize every possibility.

I Agree lori.

I've actually got an archive of all Raul's recordings just because they're 
so good, it would be great to hear some more.


the only one I found less useful was his lone wolf walkthrough, sinse when 
i tried using the depth gun like him I ended up in severe trouble spinning 
round and around in circles, it might have been nice if he said a little 
more about firing solutions for people who aren't as precise with their 
targitting as him.

Hi Tim,

As far as I am concerned that is a waste of a good mine. I have tried
bio mines on it before and they did absolutely nothing in Shades of
Doom 1.2. Plus I don't believe the temporal disturbances ever had any
goodies on them to begin with.

What is a motive  behind Disturbance?
You trap it but get nothing.
also if you teleport you have to be reverse on the game.
It is annoying at least with me.
if you encounter blob and this teleporter it will become more challenging
I think david should fix this disturbance in particular room or remove
it from a game board
Why you don't use amotokauns?

Hi Ishan,

As has been mentioned many times on list a temporal disturbance is not
a monster. It is a rip in time and space, and is the subject of many
science fiction games, movies, and television shows. As such it is not
something you can kill, seeing as it is not alive, and requires a
separate strategy such as trapping it in a room rather than directly
confronting it.

While being transported to a different area of the level is annoying
that is just all a part of the challenge of that particular hazard. I
suggest you learn to avoid it rather than coming on the list and
complaining about it. I for one like the challenge of the temporal
disturbances and don't want David Greenwood to remove them from the
game.

As far as amotokauns goes what is that? I have never heard of an
amotokaun. I'm afraid you will have to try and describe this thing so
that we can understand what you are talking about.
