[Audyssey] Avalon rpg mud

2015-11-17 Thread dark
Hi.

I have finally got back into the gaming zone, and am trying out a mud which
people have mentioned before and which I've known about for a while but have
just decided (along with several others from audiogames.net), to take the
plunge.

This is the mud avalon rpg which has apparently beeing going sinse 1986.
connection info:
Avalon-rpg.com
port - 23.

The game is a fantasy style affare of course, but with some differences,
especially in activities from warfare to farming to ranger quests. You don't
even choose a character in the normal way. There isn't so much roelplay as just
relax player interaction, though apparently even the rulers of guilds and
cities and other major in game events are player influenced. I'll say that two
things I really! like are that the game has some of the best writing I've seen
in descriptions, and from what I gather a rather unique combat system that
doesn't take reading text like a demon or rewriting your entire scripting to
use, also I do like the way the newbie stuff works sinse it's a slow
introduction with lots of choice and chances to sample different activities,
also it's got a great system of gaining lessons and xp not based on grinding,
just based on playing and interacting with the world and getting stuff over
time.

The only two negatives are firstly that finding stuff like herbs and animals in
the wilderness is quite a pest, and also the gamee isn't exactly free.

You can pay for various monthly subscriptions to play, either 8 usd,15 usd or
25 usd a month, (the more expensive ones come with extra lessons and some more
bennifits), or you can get sponsorship, where another player or an organization
like a city, priesthood or a guild basically take you on as a member and fund
your account, all that they ask in return is that you be an active player, and
sinse you need to join a guild anyway to get a character class it's not a bad
option, particularly because as I said the player base is extremely friendly.

You also get 10 hours of free newbie credit at the start as well so you can
have time to explore the game and make your mind up whether to look for
sponsorship, subscribe or whatever.

I know paying for muds seems a bit odd given the great free ones out there like
Alteraeon and Clok, but I decided to give this a try and am definitely liking
so far, it's a rather different experience from a hacknslash, for all there
definitely is combat for those who wish it.

For more information, people should check out the website with the very
extensive (if anything a trifle too extensive), manuals over at
http://www.avalon-rpg.com/

Though I just dove in and started playing myself and as I said the novice
introduction to the game is a very nice one, indeed I've been playing for about
five hours and still going on my schooling, and absolutely loving it!

My Character is Esmund if anyone wants to give me a yell, though I don't
promise to be much help sinse I've only just started myself and am just getting
used to things, but the people on the novice channel and the regular players
are a really nice bunch and always ready to help even with inconvenient stuff.

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Avalon rpg mud

2015-11-17 Thread dark

Hi Ian.

It's actually one I've known about for a while, but have been hesitant about
trying both because of my general inexperience with muds, the fact that
Avalon is a rather different game to most, and indeed if I'm honest the fact
that it's at least partially a paid game too.

Now I'm going though I'm sorry it took me so long, but stilll there's
nothing to do but make up for it now.

All the best,

Dark.

[Audyssey] Sarah Game: no talking menues

2015-11-17 Thread Tobias Vinteus

Hi,
I can hear no speech in the menus in the Sarah game from PCS.
I guess I need some older components like sapi4 to play Sarah in Windows
10. Has anyone else successfully played this game in newer Windows
versions than XP?

Thanks,
Tobias

Re: [Audyssey] The Game of "Say What"

2015-11-17 Thread Cara Quinn
Danielle et al;

I actually just purchased one on Amazon this morning in light of our
conversation! :)

The one I got was about $32 USD and there is a gold edition for $64 or so. I
have no idea what the difference is and could not glean it from the
description. So, since I know I enjoy the original, I went for that one.

So there are a number of sellers on Amazon which still do sell the game.

If anyone needs a linkie I am more than happy to post one but it should be
really easy to find.

I just searched for ‘Say What game’ and several hits came up.

Cheers!

The balls represent words or phrases and you have to remember the
sentence and try to put the correc balls in each slot. Pretty cool and
we all enjoyed it. If the link is still in working order somebody did
a podcast of It on BlindCoolTech. That is where I heard of it and went
out and got it. What ashamed Larry and his crew aren't doing anymore
podcasts that was my favorite site to visit regularly and learn. I
especially enjoyed the soundseeing tours he and his girlfriend Liz
often did. I don't have it in my possession anymore though. It should
still be made. Let me know if you find it I'd like to get it again!
There are very few off the shelf games for us.

Hi, has the game actually started up, when you hit enter on the game it
comes up with a blank screen for some reason, but hitting enter a second
time should play a magical ding sound then you should hear the pcs games and
Draconis logo music, then it should take you to the main menu with Sarah's
voice. If you're hearing nothing, then try going into run as admin while
hovering over the Sarah game icon.

Hth, from Lori.

Re: [Audyssey] Sarah Game: no talking menues

2015-11-17 Thread Charles Rivard
It is a game based on the Harry Potter series of books, although it is not
necessary for you to be familiar with those, although, as a fan of the
series, I enjoy the game more. You are a teenage student of the Hogwarts
school of witchcraft and wizardry who explores the castle during the summer,
finding treasures and interacting with the school staff. There's more to
the game than that, but I won't give it away.

Re: [Audyssey] The Game of "Say What"

2015-11-17 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Sharon and Marty,

Say What rocks!

A couple I know has it and they bring it over with them when they visit. The
game is a blast! :)

You are given a phrase which is out of order and you need to rearrange it
within a given time limit. You do this by removing physical balls from the game
itself and then replacing them back in the order you choose.

Each ball represents a word or part of the phrase and yes, the game does speak
the phrase that you have created by moving the balls around.

So it is pretty funny when you mess it up. (as you are very likely to do at
least once in a session)

I am not sure if the game is still made but I believe it is.

To Marty’s question, as you probably already know, there are ‘Say What’ type
games on the App Store, but I do not know whether they are accessible or not.

Have a great night All!

Cheers!

Cara

Re: [Audyssey] got my new solid state drive in

2015-11-17 Thread john

Given current technology, BIOS cannot be accessible. The reason for this is
that no software can be loaded at this point, so its impossible to have speech
up and running.
The only theoretical way to cause bios to be accessible would be if the
manufacturer specifically wrote a screen reader for that individual BIOS and
motherboard, but somehow I doubt that happened.
We're going a bit far from gaming here though, so maybe this topic could go
off-list?

As long as you can get passed their malware asus stuff is generally stable and

I havn't used their laptops but their desktop graphics and main boards are and
I have had no issue with either from a hardware standpoint.
Some del units seem good to though I still go toshiba just because of the
accessible bios alone and a few other tweaks.
They also use standard hardware, for sound etc these days.
On the hp front their website is quite unfriendly driver site, eprint, etc.
However their printers especially their web enabled ones are quite good.

problem, have run for years before giving up the ghost. One lasted for six

one that lasted for six years still works, since I put Vinux onto it after I
couldn't find my XP disc's after reformatting the system after I got a
rather nasty virus that I was having a ton of trouble removing.

I can't wait to have a solid-state drive in the new laptop that I'm getting
soon. It's going to be awesome! It'll be my first system with eight gigs of
RAM and a 2.9 Core i5 processor; it's the architecture that's one generation
behind the new Skylake processors, but that's fine for me. The model I'll be
getting is a Lenovo ThinkPad T450S.

Re: [Audyssey] The Game of "Say What"

2015-11-17 Thread Danielle Ledet
Yep Cara is right! It is great fun. I used to own that and bought it
for me and my kids to play. Hubby wasn't interested in the long-term.
