Re: [Audyssey] Blindfold Barnyard, some thoughts

2016-04-18 Thread Kenneth Downey
Agree with Dark on all points here, but I do think that abbreviating things
too much could get confusing. I would stick With something like sheep
northwes!, or better yet, two sheep and a dog northwest. The more these kinds
of info can be concatinated the better. Alternatively, you could say, sheep 314
which would mean that there's a sheep at 314 degrees. This would be much more
precise than the cardinal directions, but the player should be able to choose
which method they want. Also, how far away is the animal! We could invent a new
type of measurement, like a minicubit and minispan. The bigger one would be
four fingers touching and laid out in a straight line on the screen. The
smaller one would be one single fingertip, and the player would customize both
measurements before starting the first game.
Of course there is an even simpler way, a way all blind people know by the time
we get out of high school, the coordinate system. You could simply say, sheep
at E4 and boom, it would be very easy to find.
A final method, and I am not sUre which 3D engine Bryan Smaart used for Ear
Monsters, but animals would be extremely easy to find without much vocal
feedback
These are the ways I know for giving info about things on a screen.

2016-01-27 Thread Kenneth Downey
I'm not sure that you guys saw my response earlier, but I basically got scammed
by a web host provider that claimed my site had viruses, even though I
handcoded all the pages. Marty from Kid Friendly Softddare is planning to
develop the game for iOS, and the more people that ask him for it, the sooner
it'll get done. I may just program the pc version to be free, since I don't
have a server for you to upload comments to anyway, which is a big part of the
game.

  Hey all,
About six months ago, the web host took my site down. They claim that there are
viruses on the site. I wrote all the HTML code by hand, so I know darn well
that's not the case. I even took down the whole site and reuploaded it file by
file. I believe, at this point, that 'the iPage web host is a scam. There's no
way that my code is infected. The long and the short then is that I don't
currently have a site, and I haven't been able to afford getting a new host
I've asked Marty of Kid friendly Software to port Phrase Madness over to iOS.
Perhaps he will now that he's seeing some interest. He's already got all the
files for the game, and I don't think the coding process will be difficult at
all. I'll write him later today and let him know you are interested. I'll also
drop a link to the PC version on Dropbox. I'm glad people are still interested
in this game. Thanks,
Ken .

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you here, but I believe I gave the genre below.

people will know if they want to test the game.
This game will be a game similar to temple run, where it basically goes on
forever until you lose, except probably a little more simplistic at least at
first. The story is that you are a bat, and need to fly through a cave, avoid
obsticals, picking up extras (coins, powerups, etc). There will be a couple
different modes, including ones where powerups are bad for you, more
silly/crazy ones where your arrow keys change up, and depending on the
difficulty you may not know which ones did without trial and error, etc.
Any more info that you think I should provide just let me know, and I hope
this gave you a better feel for the game.

 Hello Ryan,
As I'm sure you'll understand, we cannot give much information at this
time. However, we can give you the following:
As this is our first title, it will be more simplistic, but still not
lacking in challenge and replayability. It will be an arcade title, with
modes and difficulty settings similar to super egg hunt plus. And when I
say similar, I don't mean similar as in game play, just in the way it
has different modes of the same game play.
Thank you, and if you have any other questions please ask, and we will
 answer if possible.

Re: [Audyssey] request for opinions on an audiogames network

2014-05-29 Thread Kenneth Downey
As a gamer, it's always nice when you can put your scores on the main server.
That's why Game Center and iOS is so popular. Integrating it with other audio
game developers would be even better, since you don't have to go to one place
to get all your game scores.

 Hello all (especially audiogame developers),
I was considering writing an audiogame server for speed of sound gaming
games, so that people playing our games could view scoreboards from within the
game, chat to people playing the game they're playing (or other games), and
other features as needed. My question to everyone is:
Is this something people would want? That to audiogames players, and to
 developers. A similar question:
Is this something you would use? If I were to make this public outside of my
own games I would give a library and header files (most likely for c and/or
c++, maybe with others eventually as I figured out how to make them
 big_smile
) and then have you register a company/admin account on my server so you
could add games, add other info, etc. It would hopefully be as simple as
 possible
for the developer to add this to their games, for example:
Add library/header files, build. Then at certain key points in the game, send
 something like: logon(username, ...), then receive_message(...), etc.
Everything would be controled through the sending of messages. Many of these
messages would be easily put together by simply calling something in c like:
send_chat(username/*the username of the person*/, message, /*any other
 details, like send to other games, maybe a game key, game password, etc*/);
So as you can see, all it would really require would be calling a specific
function at a certain time to send a chat, ask for a list of people online,
 ask for scores, etc.
Again: Would this be something an audiogamer would like to use? And would
this be something a developer would implement in their games?
Thanks all, I'm trying to get an idea of how popular this would be, as even
if I use it for my own games, if not written with multiple companies in mind
it would not be as easy to add more game companies to the network without a
 re-write.

Thump, thump, a flash of audio peeps, chirps and blips alert you
that one of the six columns of invaders is directly over head. You
hold down the fire button, chupe, chupe, chupe and three enemy
ships are destroyed. They move off to the right, thump, thump,
thump, thump, and you try to get ahead of them. Again they come
into your sights and you let loose with another burst. Chupe,
chupe, chupe, the last three of six invaders in the column are
vaporized. With no time to waist you move right again to attempt
to get a bead on the first column of space invaders. You hear a
high tone and before you can react, CA-BOOM, you run into a bomb.
Its all over for you, and a tremendous explosion takes out your
 fortress!

P C S Space Invaders is a game of awareness, concentration and
quick reaction. The player will have to listen to the sounds from
the PC speaker, where information about the column at the current
location is given. The stereo speakers will give the player
additional information about the position of the player and the
invaders, the remaining columns and how far apart is the first
column from the last. Even the occasional UFO will enter the fray
from the left or right side, this also will be indicated by the
stereo speakers. Then the player will have to blow away thirty six
invaders before they reach the planet, and then do it again, again,
 and again.

This is by far the most audio intents game Personal Computer
Systems has made up to date. There are many things going on at
once, invaders moving back and forth getting closer, the player can
move right and left faster then the invaders, bombs are falling and
missiles are flying. As if that is not enough an occasional UFO
enters worth fat bonus points and as the player reduces the columns
of invaders they move faster. Our help screen is there to decipher
what the sounds represent. Once the player understands
what is going on, how the sounds are relaying information and after
a short learning curve, the sounds and action become second nature
and the player can concentrate on racking up high scores.

Subject: [Audyssey] Looking for dice program for Iphone

Well as we're discussing none computerized games I thought I'd ask this.

Next week I've got a tabletop roleplay session at a different house to mine,
so won't be able to use gma dice on my desktop as I usually do. I also don't
have my laptop with me at the moment so it'd be great if there was a dice
program for Iphone that would role DD type dice.

In particular I need it to roll 3 D20's and tell me the results of each
 individual dice.

I also need it to be as quick to use as gma dice since I don't want to hold

Well, I suppose they can judge the Anglo little bit better, but when you're
making effing spin in circles as fast as you can and trying to lunch on the
work go, have it gets pretty hard to go for the angle you've wanted to go for…
My daughter says that she just shoots for the upper right corner, and that it's
mostly just luck.

 Hey Dark,
with practice you'll know the best angle to use when flicking the creature.
As far as steering goes, that's the great part of this game, and it's the
reason why I can do as well as my sighted daughter. There is no steering,
only farting to gain speed! That's why it's so addictive I think.

H Charlse, I think from the description you don't actually toss the
phone, you just play a game where you toss the little guggle thingy by
doing the wind up action and letting go, just like how in Jim's golf game
you don't actually need to pick up your pc and swing it around to simulate
 swinging the club :D.

My question however is firstly, how do you know where your going and what
hitting and where to aime? and secondly, how do you stear the creature when
 it's flying?

Subject: [Audyssey] Catagugl: An amusing little iPhone Game

I came across an amusing little game for iOS the other day, and though
it's utterly simple I can't seem to put it down. I'm getting a blister on
my index finger from playing so hard. No, I'm serious!
The game is called Catagugl, and when I got it it was free. Not sure if
it still is or not. Anyway, once you start it, turn off VO, click in the
lower right corner of the screen with home button to the right, and
you'll hear a little drum-like sound. Then touch and hold, just for a
split second, until you hear another sound. Then, wind up the gugl by
making fast circular motions. The bigger the circles and faster you make
them, the quicker he gets wound up. There is a countdown. If you toss the
gugl right at the word go, you get a fart. Every time you pass through a
cloud, you get a fart. To actually fart the fart, just touch the middle
of your screen and he'll fart, speeding him up and giving him a little
more elevation. The higher you toss him, the higher he'll go, but it's
about distance rather than height. There are bumpers both on the ground
and in the sky, and you don't want to hit them from underneath. There are
also spikes that your poor gugl can get impailed on. Watch out! The more
you play, the better your aim will be.
Anyway, the only drawback to the game is that you can't hear your score
in-game. you have to go to game center and hear your rank, then go to the
list of players and click on yoiur name, and this only gives you your
highest score. I've contacted the dev and asked if there is any way for
him to make the score spoken, but no reply thus far. Still a very good
little game, and of course the kids love it too.

Papa Sangre II By Playground Publishing B.V
You'll have nightmares for days after playing Somethin' Else's spookily
excellent audio-only survival horror game, Papa Sangre II. This sequel to the
innovative 2010 original returns you to the land of the dead in a hunt for
trapped memories, this time guided by the voice of Game of Thrones star Sean
Bean, who brings a delightful British charm to the proceedings. Papa Sangre
II builds well on the successes of its predecessor.

Precise hearing and a solid set of headphones are needed to get through the
22 increasingly tough levels, all of which are presented without graphics,
the screen shows only a compass, two hands, and two feet during play. Papa
Sangre II relies upon its atmospheric three-dimensional audio design to
create a piercing tension so intense, it's hard to play for more than a few
minutes at a time. Gyroscope integration means you'll need to literally turn
around in circles as you play, and you'll tap alternately on the left and
right sides of the screen to walk forward. The controls work well, and they
add to the atmosphere, leaving you suitably disoriented in a hostile
environment where monsters lurk in the darkness and an unreliable narrator
 eggs you on.

It's all backed by stellar writing and voice acting, which are punctuated by
a macabre sense of humor, and frustration soon takes hold as the difficulty

[Audyssey] Crazy drivers

2013-10-03 Thread Kenneth Downey
I am making a new game. Imagine this. You're walking down the sidewalk. You can
hear traffic rushing by on the left, but then, suddenly, you hear another
noise… It's the humming of a motor… It's a parked motorcycle! You walk up to it
and, hearing no one nearby, jump on it and start driving. You also notice that
there are three distinct cars… Police cars, cars blaring music, and cars
without any other sounds. You learn that the sounds boring music are the cars
of criminals trying to get away… And for some reason best-known only to
themselves, the police are overly enthusiastic about catching them… So it's
your job to get them! You start out with just a crowbar, but Destroy the
criminals cars, and you might find better weapons… Making a job a whole lot
easier. Every time you hit in innocent driver, you become more and more wanted…
And the police speed up and go after you… Even though they didn't go out to the
criminals… And eventually, they'll get you! Try Hittinger shooting a cop car
even wants, and the game ends. So far, this game covers for city blocks, with
more planned… More streets, more cars, people walking around, and so on. What I
want to know is, how much would you guys pay for such a game?

Good is the worst enemy of best.

Re: [Audyssey] Crazy drivers

2013-10-03 Thread Kenneth Downey
One of the coolest things about this game is that the level is completely open
source. That means that you'll be able to redesign whole levels and distribute
them. Everything from the speed of the cars to their positions to weapons they
drop to the damage they inflict when they hit you to the damage they can
sustain are all in the map file. If you've used soundscape explorer before,
you'll have seen the map file and how it all works.
Also, considering the amount of territory you have to cover… For city blocks…
And that's just for starters, there's a lot of ground to cover it'll take a
while just to beat the one level.
