Re: [Audyssey] Avoiding attacks was: Mota demo, my thoughts
Hi Michael, I can say for sure I don't want to dumb the game down or compromise its challenge factor. In fact, Beta 2 is in its own way more challenging then beta 1 since I have now made it impossible to crouch down and let everything and everything miss you. Enemies will hit you if you are in one place too long regardless if you are ducking, crouching, whatever. So to avoid attacks you have to figure out a combo of ducks and jumps to keep from getting hit while att the same time blast away with your weapons. This is somewhat easier though as you can now trigger off multiple shots with some weapons like the pistol allowing you to pore on the led very rapidly. Sword attacking is improved two as I sliced and diced a few enemies very quickly on expert. Michael Feir wrote: I second that motion. This is going to raise the bar in so many ways. Hi, Yeah, sort of feels that way for me as well. Kind of like turning in a rough draft of a paper only to be told by the teacher to correct this, change that, improve the other thing, whatever. In a sense fixing bugs, working on end user suggestions, is like homework since I can't sell the game until most of these problems and issues are resolved satisfactorally. Re: [Audyssey] Avoiding attacks was: Mota demo, my thoughts
Hi Dark, Yeah, it has been something I've wanted to work on for a while, but never took the time to really look into. However, now that the beta is out and people are flooding my inbox to do this and that it seams I should get this done fairly soon as the game needs to have this resolved to make the game more enjoyable for all. As for the audio output I'm glad you like it. This is a totally different gaming engine, in fact, it is a modified Genesis 3D Engine so it has a lot of the good stuff to power the game. Montezuma's Revenge on the other hand was primarily a port of James Norths game from VB 6 to C#, and then whatever features I added to it. dark wrote: Hi tom. I'll be looking forward to the possibility of a dodge move, sinse imho the damage per second system where you just automatically take damage as you hit the creature has several problems. I've noticed that the sterrio panning of game elements in Mota is much more precise than it was in Monti (presumably down to all your engine debugging), which is why I thought such a dodge system might be workable. [Audyssey] Avoiding attacks was: Mota demo, my thoughts
Hi Tom. Sounds like a good idea. One thing I've noticed though in Mota is you get hit immediately as the sound of the enemy's attack plays, unless you are ducking, there is no option to here it and jump backwards or duck. There is certainly an option to move betwene the enemy's attacks, ie, stand up and run backwards (which was how I squat jumped past the cyclopse), but at the moment it does seem if you here an attack, your pretty much hit unless ducking. I would personally like to see a possibility of dodging enemy attacks rather than just being hit and using healing potions, of course such dodging shouldn't be easy, but imho having the possibility to complete the game without taking a single hit is one of the nicer challenges about games with energy meters, - one reason I'm such a Mega man fan. You ccould even iconsidder some sort of reward to the player, such as a damage bonus. Of course, this depends upon how you've coded the attacks, and whether you've coded them with the possibility of an avoidence modifyer, ie, ducking or jumping, not to mention a sound indicator to show when the enemy is swinging high or low, - or more correctly a sound indicator when the enemy is swinging low, sinse obviously they'll start off swinging high and their default sounds would indicate such. Just some thoughts on the challenge factor. I'll look forward to the next beta. Beware the grue!
