[Audyssey] Moderator: Off Topic Messages
Hey List, I must once again bring up the painful but somehow ironically recently reoccurring subject of off topic messages on list. It keeps being stated, reminded, warned etc, and it keeps slipping by the wayside. The guidelines, and the moderators in person, have clearly stated that all off topic messages should be sent to Kevin, Tom and myself for review before posting to the Audyssey list, either to our individual addresses, or to us as a whole at gamers-ow...@audyssey.org. We have already placed one or two people on moderated status for the posting of nonapproved messages within the last week and I'm afraid we shall continue to enforce the guidelines to keep the list running as smooth as possible. This means that unfortunately I will have to place Hayden on moderated status along with those who are already on moderated status for the same reason. Please, as with the last topic, nobody reply to Hayden's post. Shaun, Thomas has already posted an email about off topic messages regarding the TextPal topic and has put some people on moderated status. He asked that nobody respond to the topic. As you have responded thereby breaking list guidelines, I feel I have no choice but to moderate you as well. Regards, Damien C. Hi all, This is a moderator warning that all, that means all, off topic messages are not aloud on this list unless otherwise approved by a moderator such as Raul or myself. Most of you have read the list guidelines plenty of times to know this so this is the first and last warning I'm going to issue on this. Future off topic messages with or without the (ot) notice in the subject will result in the offending party being immediately placed on moderated status until such time as he/she can prove to us they will stick to the list guidelines. Hi everyone, I realise some of you are new here on the list, and if so I really recommend you read the list guidelines sent to you when you subscribed to the list. I've noticed several new and old list members sending off topic posts to the list. That's a big no-no, and our polacy here is if you believe something is off topic to ask one of the list moderators about it before posting. To speak to a moderator about this list, a potential subject, etc send an e-mail to gamers-ow...@audyssey.org. In short an off topic post is defined by anything that is not game related. You can talk about games weather they are accessible, partially accessible, electronic or card/board games, game consoles, joysticks, etc. Basicly, if it is game related in any way it is probibly on topic here. What is not on topic is general computer help questions, where to buy external hard drives, or where someone got his/her signature line from. Such questions can be asked off list or posted to another list where the content of the message is on topic. Thanks, and have a good day. [Audyssey] Moderator Off Topic Messages.
Hello everyone, Ok, the off topic posts have gone on long enough. Plese, let us sease with the off topic posts and get things back to more or less game related topics. Cara has setup a general discussion list for these unrelated off topic posts, and I suggest anyone who wants to discuss something off topic for this list head over there to chat. As for why Kevin, Raul, and I generally do not allow off topic posts there are several factors in our decision. If we allow one person to post even one off topic post others tend to join in and begin discussing stuff that has nothing to do with gaming. The point of this list is to discuss games and not what your favorite author is, how cool last nights movie was, how to do something with Window Eyes or Jaws, etc. The owners/moderators of this list feel it is in the list's best interests to talk about gaming and game related topics only. Nicol brought up the point of email client message rules. While that is doable the moderators of the list do not feel any lister should be forced to create message filters or message rules to block off topic posts just because a handful of posters want to discuss something other than games on the list. It is up to the moderators to filter and create the message rules for the list, and we do that filtering. Besides which allot of posters don't often change subject lines accordingly, and it is completely possible that off topic content would be found in emails with on topic subject lines. So message rules in an email client wouldn't be an effective way of blocking off topic posts. So without delay let us all get things back on topic.
