Yes,there are going to be some changes in play and format. For example,
I am going to be using the values directly from the TNG and Deep Space 9
technical manuals to construct the ships, weapons, and I hope to have
the game become as much a simulation as a strategy game.
There are also going to be more Borg ships to fight. On more difficult
levels you will be fighting Borg cube ships where on lower experience
levels you will get to battle scout ships and spheres.
I've got other things in mind for 2.0, but I am deciding on how to
introduce them to the game.

Is STFC2 gonna be real time as aposed to turn based. If it is, we can be
looking at another real time RTS. Or just RTS, rather.

Re: [Audyssey] STFC 2 was USA Games News

2007-09-23 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
STFC 2 is still turn based. It is easier from a command and strategy
stand point. If you have to command several stations or ships in real
time that is too complicated to keep track of.
The only way it would work is to give each ship an AI, and unless the AI
on those ships are very good I am not certain they will give you the
fire power needed to carry off a victory.

Re: [Audyssey] STFC 2 was USA Games News

2007-09-23 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Josh,
The pricing is still one of those undecided factors, but at this point I
still think 2.0 will be free. It won't cost me physical cash to create.
Just time.
STFC 2.0 will be much better than 1.0 as I now know allot more about
slapping games like that together than I did at the time I created it.
Plus I have allot of working code I can reuse in STFC 2.0 from games
like Monty.
For example my new save and load options code can be easily copied over
to STFC 2.0. It is 100% Vista UAC compliant, and now that is written
only miner changes such as registry key names is all that needs to be
done to make it work.
Back when I began STFC 1.x I didn't have any of that, and my programming
skills with .Net were not to the level they are today.

Re: [Audyssey] STFC 2 was USA Games News

2007-09-23 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
Over here in the good old USA we have a cable TV station called Spike.
They play Star Trek all afternoon long Monday-Friday. It includes TNG,
Voyager, and I think they still have DS9 on sometimes.
Anyway, I've had a renewed interest in TNG, and I think STFC 2 will be
more a TNG style game than a DS9 style one.
All of the ships in STFC 2 are based on TNG shows. The Enterprise,
Monitor, Sutherland, Phoenix, etc were all seen on TNG.
For example, my idea for including the Phoenix came from the show, "the
Wounded." As it turns out the Phoenix is a Nebula class starship, but
matches the Enterprise in weapons and strength. Great ship to have on
your side when blasting away Romulans, Klingons, Cardassians, and Borg.
The Sutherland has made guest appearances both on TNG and DS9. It was
first mentioned in Redemption II as having not been pressed into
service. the crew of the Enterprise, Data in particular, took over the
unfinished Sutherland to stop Commander Sela's attack. It later showed
up on DS9 during the Dominion War.

Re: [Audyssey] STFC 2 was USA Games News

2007-09-24 Thread Dark
well the Tng focus certainly sutes me.

Though my parents have sky, we don't funfortunately get Spike. Sky 1 (where
I first saw most Trek series), occasionally reruns Tng and voyager (though
usually at inconsistant times), but I haven't known them do a consistant Ds9
runthrough. when I first saw Ds9, it was part way through the run, and
though I enjoyed quite a few episodes, I never got the overall plot, which
is why I'd like to buy it some point (sinse it does tie into tng rather
nicely, and Tng is deffinately my favourite series).

I'll look out for the sutherland and other ships in tng, though at the
moment I'm only on the first series, so it might take me a while to get to
them smile!

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

For folks that are on the "System Access Mobile Network" (Freedom Box)

2007-09-24 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Hunter,
The correct installation method is this.
If it is not installed first install .Net Framework.
Then, upgrade DirectX 9.0C.
Finally, install the game or games.
If the install is not done in exactly this order you will get runtime
errors.
Cheers.
