Hi Aaron,
Well, once Montezuma's Revenge is released I suspect USA Games will
produce more side scrollers based on the Monty engine as all the really
hard work is done. Just need to introduce changes for megaman, double
dragon, castlevania, or whatever side scroller we pick to do.
The basic infastructure though would be in place for more side scroller
production.

Hi all,
Dark was talking about playing a non-accessible remake of Montezuma's
Revenge not the accessible games that USA Games is producing. As it
happens I am hoping above hope Alpha 2 will be out in the next 30 to 60
days. I've got a voice acter doing the audio naration of the game as
well as I am doing a massive debug on the engine. I've got allot to go,
but it is coming along pretty well.
Allot depends on how long it takes to make the new audio naration and
get various other things working such as game controller support.

Hi Dark,
Well, the purpose in Montezuma's Revenge is to collect all the treasure
you can find and get before you either complete the game or die.
Oh, I am glad you got the 80's classic. I haven't played that version in
more years than I can remember. Was kind of a cool game though.
My version is more or less like Montezuma's Revenge from the 80's but
with some unique twists and other miner changes. The levels aren't
exactly layed out the same, but other than that hey it has the basic
game play and concepts.

Hi Nicol,
While it is true you won't be buying things with the gold and gems and
other treasures you find those are the very purpose of playing the game
to hunt for treasure. Losing it you will have to collect as much
gold/gems as you can find to help improve your score. If you loose your
gems and gold your score will drop, and for those doing online
competitions for first place it will hurt his or her chances of being a
top person on the score boards.

Hi Charles,
That is doable. Actually, what you loose could depend on the difficulty
level in question. On Easy you loose nothing hense easy. As you increase
difficulty a little more of your treasure goes bye bye along with that
awesome score you were trying to get.
Although, this would have to not apply to bonus rounds which don't
really count against your lives counter.

Glad you like the idea. Personally, I'm not all that interested in score,

every passageway (Metroid style).

Btw, By "Original Monti" I was thinking of the 1980's atari game (it's
graffic's are simple enough for me to cope with), I haven't played the
Alchemy demo or alpher 1 version yet. Sorry if this wasn't clear, and sorry

I have no problem with it, thom. I'm used to my gold to go back to 0 if
I die in self destruct or if I go to the next level in self destruct so
its something I'm used to by now. IN monty you can't buy anything with
the gold or gems, but in self destruct you do. So If your gold wasn't
set to 0 at the next level in self destruct it would be easier to buy
more ammunition and health and blast all those urchins at once and be
able to have enough gold for the teleporter, so its not really such a
big loss if your gold and gems is set to 0 in monty if you die.

Hi Dark,
The original and the USA Games version of Montezuma's Revenge is all
about memory as well as skill. Gems will always be in their own
locations. Yeah they will be in out of the way places, and as you play
it will be up to you to figure out where all of them are located.
Jumping is much easier than in the Alchemy demo and the Alpha 1 demo,
but that doesn't mean the game itself is any easier. Monsters move fast,
and your actions have to be quick, especially on insane, to keep from
being skull, snake, or spider chow.

Re: [Audyssey] Monty penalties.

2007-01-10 Thread Dark
H, my only minor thought with that idea is that if the Gems and gold are
hidden in out of the way places (as in original Monti), finding them all
might be a bit frustrating if they'd vanish when you died, how would you
know when you'd collected all of them?

While I like the penalties idea for competition, perhaps having it exclusive
to a higher difficulty or a separate mode might help in bonus collecting.

Btw, when I heard you were making the game I recently went and tried the
original (or at least, an extremely faithful Pc remake), and it actually
sounds as if your adding lots of stuff to the game as well as making it
accessible. i just hope jumping over monster is slightly easier, I found the
original extremely frustrating for this ;D.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

HI thom
Could you explain this please! What do you mean with: Begin quote if
you had 8 gems when you bit the big one end quote. You don't bite anyone
in monty, do you? As far as I know you kill monsters if you pick up a
sword, otherwise you jump over them. It's the first time I heard that
you also bite enemies in monty if I understand you correctly.

Hi all,
Earlier tonight I was playing the very original Alchemy demo of
Montezuma's Revenge with some of my own patches and mods, of course, and

one major thing stood out in that demo and the current USA Games
version. In the Alchemy version there were some major penalties to
getting killed. For example if you had 8 gems when you bit the big one
your gems counter, gold, etc was reset to 0.
So I am thinking of reintroducing this in to Monty. The one thing I
wouldn't include is losing your keys as those are required for
completing the level. However, if you lost your gems and gold your score

might take a major hit.
This would be a major factor for when I eventually get online score
posting etc when those of you out there begin competing for the highest
scores, and so on. What do you all think?
